The following day Mercury’s mood was a bit sour, he knew now that his father has decided he couldn’t stay here.
Although even his father didn’t have the authority to take him out of the academy, he can easily make it so he’s expelled.
’ Perhaps I should just give up, no, maybe if I reveal my power that old man might reconsider.’
Then he remembered the schemes between his siblings, especially the first and second son and shook his head.
’ They only survived because they’re monsters, if they send threats of that level my way I’ll die without a doubt.’
Mercury remembered his older brother the third son, of all his siblings he might just be the smartest.
Instead of fighting over the duke title with the other two, he chose to go a completely different route.
After graduating from the academy he joined the Empire’s magic corps, as such he no longer qualified to be a duke.
Those in the corps weren’t allowed to be nobles, they swore to serve no clan, not even the royal family.
Their sole duty was protecting the empire from all threat, even ones from within so the other two left him alone.
Mercury had no intentions of drawing their attention either.
" What’s wrong oh great mage Mercury, are you scared?" Somebody asked mockingly. Mercury didn’t bother responding.
’ It seems even these fools can see I’m not in a good mood, alright, I’ll have a bit of fun without showing anything.’
Mercury decided not to quit the tournament yet, the tournament started and as expected, the first match was his.
First to third year no longer participated, their participation was merely for entertainment as an opening act to the first round.
Only the fourth years were participating in this tournament. Mercury went on stage, it was much larger and stronger than yesterday.
The colosseum itself was over a kilometre in diameter not counting the stands obviously, yesterday’s ring merely covered a small part of it.
This time, it covered most of it with a diameter of over 800 metres and a steel hard stone floor.
His opponent climbed up as well, it was the wind mage woman who beat flame mage guy.
She gave him a cold dismissive glance and waited for the fight to start, as soon as it did he detonated multiple fireballs and icicles against each other.
Steam covered the entire stage, the mage used her wind to take to the skies before casting wind tornado.
It blew away the smokescreen he created, Mercury appeared surrounded by over a hundred spells.
" Multi cast, how can somebody like him use multi cast?" Shouted somebody from the audience.
" Why can’t he, he’s unable to cast any magic above F rank but nothing says he can’t cast multiple F rank spells." Answered another.
" Maybe that’s why he’s able to use it, with no possibility of using any stronger spells, he can put more focus into this."
Mercury heard them arguing, his curse had leaked long ago, now everybody on the capital knew.
His opponent was also surprised but only for a moment.
" It doesn’t matter though, F rank spells are still only just F rank."
" Still, to cast so many of them at once, not many F rank mages can do that, even most E rank mages can’t."
That was true, most mages who knew multicast can only cast about 2 to 5 spells at once on the same rank.
When casting lower ranked spells they can cast more naturally but Mercury was an F rank mage, as far as they knew.
His feat was beyond impressive in its own right, unfortunately as they said, F rank spells are still just F rank spells.
His opponent gave him a disdainful glance, ’ Doesn’t he know fire enhances wind? Foolish.’ that was a well known fact in this world.
Mercury fired the spells around him to one spot, all of them were fire related spells, they exploded one after another.
" What is he doing?"
" Controlling so many spells at once must be hard, it’s understandable if he can’t aim well."
The audience were confused by his actions, Mercury had fired the spells a few dozen metres away from the tornado.
His opponent smirked and sent the tornado rolling towards him, suddenly she lost control and wind followed the flames.
The superheated air from his spells created an updraft leaving a region of low pressure near the ground.
Wind follows the rules of physics and naturally gravitate towards a region of low pressure.
In a mere second her 10 metres wide and 50 metres tall tornado dropped to merely 8 metres wide and 40 metres tall.
While this drop wasn’t huge it created a massive impact on her and the crowd, she grabbed hold of the tornado immediately after.
The tornado was her spell,her control over it surpassed the laws of physics and Mercury naturally knew that.
His intention was never to destroy the spell, he merely wanted to distract her and he achieved his goal.
Like the audience she couldn’t figure out why she almost lost control of her spell and he used that opportunity to attack.
He fired a dozen fire balls followed by wind bullets at her, she cast a wind barrier around herself.
The fireballs exploded on impact and the wind bullets followed soon after enhancing the might of the explosion.
A wind bullets exploded on his back sending him flying through the air, she blew away the flames.
Her face twisted with rage, she was ready to cast another spell but saw him flying at her like a bullet.
This caught her by suprise delaying her actions by a moment, Mercury fired stone bullets at her.
Her barrier of spinning wind crushed then to sand but they came like a flood and before she knew it she was surrounded by a sandstorm.
The weight of her barrier increased increasing her mental strain, slowly her body started descending to the ground but it was too late.
Mercury was upon her and fired dozens of water bullets at her barrier turning the sand to mud.
He landed on it and cast mud puddle, since the barrier had stone now, mud puddle worked.
This greatly weakened her barrier, he drove his fist through it almost hitting her face but he missed by a few centimetres.
" Get off me!" She shouted and cast wind blade hitting him on the chest, a massive gash appeared on his chest and he crashed down on the ring.
As he was falling he grinned and snapped his fingers, a tiny droplet of water next to her face expanded covering her entire face.
" Water ball, choke on that bitch."
