As Mercury was leaving the colosseum, a figure stood before him looking enraged, Mercury raised his eyebrow.
" What do you want Emilia?" He asked in an exhausted voice. Emilia looked surprised by his tone.
" Stop it Mercury, you’ve proven yourself but how far do you think your tricks can take you?
I know you’re mad that I’ve been spending time with Marcus but that’s no reason to risk yourself like this.
Give up, the remaining opponents are not so easy to deal with, you’ll end up getting yourself hurt." Emilia genuinely sounded worried.
" Wow, if I didn’t know you, I would really think you cared but stop thinking too highly of yourself.
You still think I’m doing this to please you? Your delusions really knows no bounds, I already told you.
I don’t care if you fuck Marcus all day or fuck the entire school, I already told you, after this tournament, we’re getting our engagement annulled."
Emilia gritted her teeth, her eyes twisted with pain and rage, " Mercury you bastard, I’m trying to be nice here and this is how you treat me?
How dare you accuse me of such vulgar things, nothing happened between me and Marcus."
Mercury just shook his head, " I don’t get you, I really don’t, you’ve been flaunting your relationship with him.
Hell you told me you didn’t want me and now you’re here explaining yourself? Why? Shouldn’t you be happy that I want to annul this farce of an engagement?"
Emilia didn’t seem to have an answer to that, she herself couldn’t understand it, she told herself she loved Marcus.
She told herself Mercury was a worthless leech who didn’t deserve her but when he stopped chasing after her she left lost.
’ Do I actually like him? No, there’s no way that’s true, he’s just useful and losing him would be inconvenient.
Besides, this engagement promised protection for my kingdom as the duke promised.
Besides, there’s no way he’ll actually leave, he’s just throwing a tantrum, he’ll be back begging in no time.’
Emilia told herself, she smirked, " Do whatever you want but don’t come crying to me when you get hurt." She turned and walked away.
Mercury shook his head and walked off, there were stalls just outside the academy gates selling food and drinks.
He bought a sweet cake and orange juice, " Damn these things are expensive." Just three sweet cakes and a cup of orange juice cost him 2 silver.
They were more expensive than a full mean in a restaurant, low end restaurant but still. After that he had no idea what else to do.
Mercury had no friends to spend time with, he did not want to see his mother right now either.
Mercury didn’t hate his mother, not like he did his father but he did consider her a coward.
Although he knew she loved him, she never protected him from his father, not really, she never went against him.
Even when she did speak it wouldn’t last and every time she would make the excuse that it was her duty as a wife to obey her husband.
Those were the rules of the culture of this place, women married out, most of the time at least.
Husbands were heads of the family and their word was the law in the house, Mercury didn’t understand it.
It made sense in his old world, men were biologically stronger and easily claimed leadership positions.
For most of history women had no right or ability to resist that situation but that wasn’t the case here.
Due to mana and magic, women can become just as if not stronger than their husbands.
Why they obeyed them even when they’re wrong made no sense, unfortunately he couldn’t ask anybody that.
Mercury wondered around the campus by himself until night fall, ’ The moons are quite large tonight.’
The sky in this world was incredibly beautiful with countless stars shining bright like polished crystals.
Three moons, the smallest was red like a ruby, the second largest was green like jade and the biggest one was silver.
They made even the night sky beautifully bright. Mercury walked back to the colosseum.
The other participants were already there waiting for the tournament to start, the audiences returned as well.
Soon the seats were packed with an audience eagerly waiting to watch the show and it began.
The first match was a really bad matchup between Abacus and Neil, Neil was definitely faster.
Her invisibility technique made her nearly impossible to detect by normal standards and Abacus really couldn’t see her.
His skin turned bronze, he used his D rank ability increasing all of his stats especially durability by a large margin.
Neil appeared behind him like a shadow and stabbed his back with her daggers, clang, her daggers bounced off his bronze skin.
He kicked behind him causing a huge gale of wind but Neil was already gone by then, she appeared on the other end of the ring.
Her daggers gained a faint purple glow that made even Mercury feel a bit threatened, he leaned closer.
’ This..’ Mercury recognised this ability, he read about it in the academy library, it was called the cursed slayer.
It was an absolute killing move, it ignored defence and durability and directly attacked the soul.
But it came at a cost, whoever uses it will be plagued by overwhelming killing intent, if they fail to contain it.
They would be consumed and turned into killing machines whose only purpose is to bring death upon all they come across.
’ Bold of her to learn this skill.’ Mercury shook his head, ’ Still, she seems to be handling it well, her will is impressive.’
What was even more amazing about this ability was that it was a growth type ability whose power grew with the user.
Her’s seemed to be still at E rank but even that was enough to breach Abacus’s D rank bronze skill.
Neil suddenly cancelled her ability and jumped off the ring without saying another word.
Abacus looked confused then shrugged and jumped off as well, Mercury expected his fight to be next but Marcus was called on stage.
His opponent was Sabrina, Mercury was very interested in this fight, he wanted to see if he’ll be forced to use his lightning or not.
Knowing how strong Sabrina was, that was most likely to be the case. Marcus gave her a dismissive glance.
" Don’t think just because you’ve defeated some weaklings you’re a match for me commoner, give up now and save yourself some pain." Said Marcus.
Sabrina said nothing, she whispered a chant under her breath, Marcus clicked his tongue and drew his sword.
" So be it." The ground beneath his feet cracked, the air exploded and he flew at Sabrina leaving a trail of sonic booms behind.
Green light exploded behind Sabrina and an illusory image of a tree appeared. Even Mercury stood up when he saw that.
" How?"
