Water ball was a simple F rank spell, it wasn’t like fireball which can be fired at enemies with explosive might.
All it does is create a ball of water that can even reach 4 metres in diameter, Mercury did not make his that large.
He only covered her face, the girl clawed at the water but naturally her fingers passed through it.
She lost focus and fell to the ring, Mercury hit the ground first and jumped back up and rap up to her.
Seeing the situation getting dire she cast a wind spell blasting wind on her face to blow off the water.
However she had to be careful or the wind might harm her instead, fortunately for her the spell was weak.
She blew it off and could finally breathe but before she could relax another one appeared so suddenly she almost drowned.
Mercury had cast the spell as soon as she blew the water ball off her face, he used the water drops still floating around her.
This made casting the spell much easier, he reached her before she could hit the ground, unable to talk she couldn’t cast powerful spells.
She cast another wind blast and tried to blow him away, he detonated a fireball cancelling out her wind blast.
Her eyes opened wide with panic, Mercury delivered a heavy punch to her chest and sent her flying out the ring.
She tried to use wind to float but the water ball on her face expanded and covered her entire body.
Mercury dropped it to the ground and cancelled it, she fell outside the ring and lost her match.
She didn’t get up for a few seconds, she still couldn’t believe what’s happened, she looked at her shaking hands then at Mercury.
" How?" She asked softly, Mercury looked down at her and smiled.
" Because you underestimated me, remember, there are no useless spells, only useless mages."
His words seemed to hurt the pride of all the mages watching, his words directly went against the teaching of the academy.
The academy taught that higher ranked spells were the only things that mattered, that one with a stronger spell will always win.
In the general sense, they were right but Mercury was an anomaly, for years he couldn’t learn stronger spells.
So he poured his entire focus on mastering his utility of the weaker F rank spells and this was the results.
When Mercury first possessed this body, there was a disconnection between his knowledge and what he can do.
However the two months training allowed him to breach the gap between his knowledge and his body’s reaction.
Mercury walked back to his seat, the wound on his chest was throbbing like a crazy, ’ Damnit it hurts so bad, why did I do that?’
Mercury had allowed himself to be hurt by her wind blade, naturally he weakened the spell first or it would’ve cut him in half.
’ My mana skin could’ve blocked that without even ripple, damn it hurt.’ Mercury hated pain.
Unlike the previous Mercury, he wasn’t used to getting hurt and it made his blood cold. ’ Fuck this I’m using a healing bolts.’
He didn’t care about being discovered he couldn’t handle the pain anymore, to people of this world.
A wound like this was nothing but a scratch, they can function just fine with it but he wasn’t from here.
Back in his world, even stubbing your toe was too damn painful let alone getting your great member on a zipper.
Fortunately before he could use his bolts, healing mages came to heal him, he sighed when the pain disappeared.
Only then did he notice the disdainful gazes directed at him,
" Pathetic."
" What a coward."
He heard their whispers, he had to admit his reaction to the pain was a bit too shameful but who cares what they think.
Mercury watched the following matches and they were not as interesting. Satella went first against another mage.
Another girl with fire elemental magic, the girl fell asleep before even casting a single spell.
Her magic didn’t have any fancy explosions, it was silent and quick which bored the audience.
Mercury paid more attention to her, he can deal with spells he can see but cursed were too much to deal with.
The following match was Sabrina against another mage who used earth magic. He looked scared.
Mercury understood him, anybody who knew Sabrina knew she was monster, the mage gulped.
" Breath of Gnome who quakes the earth, breath life to stone who walks the earth, Stone Golem."
The mage cast a spell, the ground beneath his feet shook, the earth rose and took the form of a humanoid earth Golem.
The Golem stood five metres tall and ran at Sabrina like a moving mountain, Sabrina’s dead fish eyes remained vacant.
Without any chant she she tapped her staff on the ground, the vines around the staff moved gently like dancing snakes.
Vines grew around the Golem and pierced through its body, in a blink they covered the entire Golem.
The Golem failed to maintain its structure and crumbled, Sabrina was about to use to another spell.
" I quit." Shouted her opponent, he raised his arms and jumped off the stage.
’ Wise guy.’ remarked Mercury, knowing when to give up was a valuable skill which unfortunately most nobles did not know.
The next match was between Abacus and another warrior that used earth magic, a brown aura surrounded the warrior.
" AHHHHHH!" He roared and lunged at Abacus, his steps left deep footprints on the hard stone.
A similar brown aura surrounded Abacus and their fists clashed, same ability, same rank but the other warrior was forced to retreat.
He was much taller and much larger than Abacus yet Abacus stood as tall as a mountain.
Abacus didn’t wait for his opponent to gather himself, his body flashed and appeared behind the giant man and kicked him on the back of the head.
The giant’s aura disappeared and he fell face flat and fainted. Abacus walked off the stage with a bored expression.
His gaze lingered briefly on Marcus before he moved on. The next on stage was a woman called Neil.
She was a very silent person which fit her abilities, Neil’s power was speed and stealth.
She was basically an assassin, her opponent barely had a chance to fight back before a blade was placed against his neck.
Then followed Marcus, his opponent was the spear wielding warrior who used lightning, he won that match against the swordman.
The man attached first but Marcus didn’t even bother using his own lightning, flames covered his fist.
He punched the blade of the spear with his fist causing it to bend, his opponent flew back like a ragdoll.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, a fire bird was already in front of his face, it exploded with so much force it sent him flying out of the ring.
The difference in their strength was too massive. Marcus glared at Mercury for a brief moment.
The second round ended just like that, all participants were given a chance to rest, the third round would begin at night.
