Mercury read the noticed and figured out what had happened.

" That bastard did that just to humiliate me." Mercury sighed, the notice said he had been recommended by the deacon.

Mercury knew this was Marcus’s doing, " Should I just quit?" Mercury wondered and immediately dismissed that idea.Full novel: Cursed Mage with Infinite Mana — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The academy as terrible as it was still protected him from his father, even though he’s basically been abandoned.

He was still a noble, the fourth son of a duke, once he quit the academy he would be required to take up family duties.

Knowing how his father felt about him, there was no doubt he would be sent to the worst place possible.

" Should I just run? No that’s impossible, I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere." This world was called Kaldra.

The previous Mercury didn’t know much about its size and geography but he knew well enough about this continent called Moldrock.

There were many races in Kaldra, the humans only ruled the northern part of Moldrock, bordering them were the Werebeast and elves.

Ruling the West and East respectively, south of the human territory were the demons who were very hostile to humans.

Between the Werebeast and Elven empire was a straight pass called the Hells gate leading straight to the demon territory.

This is where battles between the demons and humans usually occur, Mercury had a feeling he would be sent there.

" Well the empire is not the only human kingdom here but the others are its vassals, there’s really nowhere to go."

He sighed again, he was trapped here, " The only way out is through strength, the tournament is two months from now.

That should be enough time, I’ll have to leave the academy if I want to train properly, good thing I signed up as an adventure."

Even the academy didn’t have the right to prevent adventurers from taking missions, the deacon won’t be able to stop him.

Mercury decided to leave immediately, he went to pack and just as he left his house he met the one person he didn’t want to see.

" Where do you think you’re going? You know leaving academy grounds is not allowed right, do you want to be expelled?" Asked Emilia sounding annoyed.

Mercury ignored her and tried to walk around her, she grabbed his arm. " I’m talking to you, I’m saying this for your own good.

You know what will happen to you if you’re expelled right?" If Mercury didn’t know her he would’ve mistaken her words for worry.

" Don’t come begging me to beg your father when he sends you to the front lines." Emilia huffed and walked off.

Mercury shook his head and went to the deacon’s office.

" You what?" Asked the deacon.

" I’m asking for permission to leave school grounds, as an adventure I have an obligation to carry out missions." Mercury answered.

" How long will this mission of yours last?" Asked the deacon.

" I don’t know but I’ll do my best to come back before the tournament." Answered Mercury.

The deacon felt a bit frustrated, he knew letting him go might offend Marcus but he couldn’t afford to offend the guild.

" Fine, it’ll take time to process the paperwork, until then, you have to wait."

’ I’ll just drag the paperwork, you think you can use being an adventure to pressure me, dream on boy.’

" I’m afraid I don’t have time, as a newly registered adventurer, I have to take a mission as soon as possible."

The deacon knew he was right, a newly registered adventurer had to take at least one mission on their first month.

F rank adventurers need to take at least one mission every month, it’s been weeks since he registered.

’ If I stop him and he reports to the guild, I would be fined, at worst the guild might just arrest me.’ the deacon gritted his teeth.

The guild was very protective of adventurers, for a simple reason, most adventurers were commoners.

In the past, they were abused and exploited by the nobles, this damaged the reputation of the guild.

Most people chose to quit while those who signed up became lesser and lesser each year.

This in turn forced the nobles to carry out monster extermination themselves which cost a lot of money and manpower.

So they made a deal with the guild leaders of the time, the nobles would not touch adventurers.

In return, the guild would carry out monster extermination through adventurers thus saving the nobles a lot of trouble.

The deacon had no choice and signed the release forms allowing him to leave, he knew Mercury would be back.

The deacon understood Mercury was using the academy as a way to avoid being assigned to the frontlines by his father.

So he knew he wouldn’t want to miss the tournament and would be back in two months at most.

Mercury had already packed his stuff, he left immediately before more trouble found and delayed him.

Which worked in his favour because Marcus arrived at the deacon’s office soon after, when he heard everything he was furious.

At first he thought Mercury had run away to escape facing him during the tournament but after the deacon explained he calmed himself down.

" I don’t understand my lord, why do you hate that boy so much?" Asked the deacon.

Marcus thought back to when he first met Mercury, they were 12, Mercury was with Emilia at the time.

Back then, Emilia was still looking at Mercury with nothing but affection, even then Marcus was jealous.

But that isn’t why he hated Mercury, it’s what happened after. Marcus had taken a fancy to a young common girl.

The girl refused his advances and when he tried to take her by force, Mercury punched him in the face.

Marcus had never been that disrespected in his life, how could a noble scion like him take that lying down.

He wanted to kill Mercury but learning he was a duke’s son made him change his plans.

He didn’t understand Mercury’s situation back then so he set his eyes on something else.

Emilia, he seduced her and it worked better than expected, he later understood that Mercury had no wealth or status in his family.

When he offered all of that to Emilia it worked better than expected and since then, he’s been torturing Mercury.

To be honest Marcus was no longer angry at Mercury, he had gotten his revenge long ago, he was merely doing it out of pleasure now.

Stepping on the head of a descendent of a duke was much more pleasing than doing it to a lowly commoner.

Marcus didn’t say none of that to the deacon though.

By that time Mercury was already in the guild looking at the mission board, most missions were D rank and above.

This was the capital of the empire, low rank missions were not common here, finally he found one suitable for him.

" I’ll take this one."
