-Chapter starts here-
Waking up from the bright sunlight, the window shows the bright and clear blue sky outside.
Seagulls cawing can be heard, distinct from the sounds of the morning bustle of the port town.
Loud horns from the arriving and going ships and shouts from the people moving various cargo from and into the ships.
Another good morning for Silver, who had just finished bathing after a morning run.
It is the weekend.
So most of the kids decided to not go out running for errands today.
“Hey guys! Who wants to go to the beach with me?!” Silver suddenly shouted to everyone nearby.
“Me!” An energetic voice responded joyfully.
“No! You are still too small to go there,” a big sister figure in the orphanage said strictly as she pulled the toddler towards the place in the yard where the other toddlers were already playing.
“But I want to go!” The little kid protested verbally but still followed anyway.
“Mother Mathron does not allow little kids to go there,” the big sister said patiently.
“Maybe when you are bigger, you can go there with the others.”
Kids in the orphanage are mostly sensible; they mature earlier from a young age.
That is why that kid only ever protested verbally, because the kid knows that the big brothers and big sisters have many things to do, so they cannot be troubled.
The other teens that are allowed to go responded positively.
“Alright, we will go after breakfast,” Silver said as he moved to prepare the things he was going to bring there while thinking.
‘Ever thought about where so many orphaned kids came from?
Some of them came from brothel girls in town.
Yes, the port town has one.
This is a port where many ships stop by to stock up on water or other necessities after all. Enjoying the story? Read on at novelping.com.
Those girls came from afar by boat; they don’t know how to make a living, and they all ran away from something.
They could not even take care of themselves, so how would they take care of a child?
The townspeople just turned a blind eye to it, as they also think that it is good to have fresh blood in the town.
Some of the kids were orphans of the town’s people who had an accident in the sea.
Some were brought by passengers of the boats.
There were no street kids in this port town; they are all in the orphanage.
There were also no homeless people because even the poorest person can have their own shack on the town’s periphery near the wooden walls.
Not even the poorest person in town goes hungry because every adult at least knows how to fish with a fishing rod.
So there are many anglers seen sitting near the docking area, fishing.
There is even a fishing festival here where people compete on who catches the biggest fish with a fishing rod.’
– At the beach –
“Hey brothers and sisters! Can anyone teach me how to swim?!” Silver asked loudly, wearing only shorts while stretching.
The other kids had already started playing, some swimming.
There are also some looking for washed-up fish.
Most of them brought one or two small baskets, while Silver brought a big one instead.
Almost everyone who knew how to swim responded and gathered around him.
Then he started learning.
One person took the lead in teaching while the other either watched from the side or was supplementing the details.
Silver did not know if it was because he was still young right now or because he was better at learning in this life, but he quickly learned how to swim.
He even started doing different kinds of swimming after a few minutes of learning.
When the other kids saw what he was doing, it was their turn to ask him to teach them because everyone only knows how to dog paddle or the most basic of basics.
Unlike Silver, who was doing butterfly strokes, backstrokes, and even swimming like a mermaid at the end.
So he also took some time teaching everyone.
With a deep breath, he examined his own body before muttering to himself.
“As I thought! Swimming is definitely a good way to train the whole body. Thankfully, I remember reading about this somewhere in my previous life.”
Then he did some stretching again before taking his basket and walking onto the rocky parts of the beach while some kids were looking at him, curious about what he was going to do.
He kept looking around the rocky area before finally rolling a rock to the side and then grabbing something.
“Hahaha! As I thought! There is a thing here!” Silver shouted excitedly as he held up what he grabbed just now.
“Who knows how to tie up a crab?!”
“A crab, you say?” Some kid nearby exclaimed when they heard him.
“I know! Let me show you!” Another one butted in quickly and ran towards Silver, fast.
Then everyone ran towards him too to take a look.
“How did you find a crab?!” One kid asked with greedy eyes while everyone was bobbing their throats.
“Hehehe! Crabs like to live in these kinds of rocky places! Just overturn some stones and you will see. Not just crabs! There are lobsters and a few other things too! Right, just be careful of sea snakes, and remember not to get bitten by an eel; those are aggressive,” Silver explained excitedly while thinking.
“Well…
This knowledge was just something I remembered from my previous life these days.
It seems that the meditation is now starting to show some results, because I am starting to remember something more clearly than before.
Just like those swimming techniques that I tried before.
I remembered reading and watching some things about those swimming techniques, and then I just either pieced together the information or referenced and tried things before succeeding.
Everyone quickly began scouring the rocky terrain.
Everyone caught at least one crab or lobster before they stopped because only Silver brought a big basket, where most of the catch was put together.
Also…
Someone was bitten by an eel by the way.
