Asuna suddenly caught the exchange between Lucian and Yukinoshita and looked over with an innocent expression.

What was going on?

Why had they brought her up out of nowhere?

Yukinoshita’s reaction seemed a bit off.

Could it be she’d come out on the losing end against Lucian?

Asuna was a little curious.

She couldn’t help whispering to Kato, “What happened between them?”

At the question, Kato recounted the details of yesterday’s fight between Lucian and Yukinoshita.

Once she understood, Asuna was somewhat dumbfounded.

Sure enough, Yukinoshita had taken a big loss, which was why she didn’t want to fight Lucian.

Still, she was quite curious about his strength.

To be rated so highly by Yukinoshita, he had to be very strong, right?

And he used a sword…

a saber.

Sabers and swords often get lumped together.

The saber Lucian used did resemble a sword, and calling it one wouldn’t be far off.

Maybe she really could spar with him during the combat class later.

Lucian instantly lost interest the moment he heard Yukinoshita didn’t want to fight.

He’d only punched her once, hadn’t he?

How could she chicken out just like that?

Isn’t taking a little damage in a fight completely normal?

After grumbling about her at length in his head, Lucian went back to scrolling his phone.

Not long after, the class bell rang, and Class Teacher Hale walked in.

Lucian put his phone away and sat up straight the instant it sounded.

The rest of the class did the same, going quiet the moment the Class Teacher entered.

Teacher Hale glanced over the room.

Seeing everyone present, she said, “Class, if you need to go out anytime soon, it’s best to go in groups.

A new Dimensional Rift has been found within the city, and it’s possible monsters have already come through.

Everyone, mind your safety.”

The Class Teacher brought unwelcome news the moment she walked in.

The whole class was stunned.

There’s a Dimensional Rift in the city?

Is that true?

If so, it’s dangerous.

Dimensional Rifts appear at random all over the world and can’t be detected by any special means.

Because of that, every appearance is sudden, and some Rifts aren’t discovered until long after they open.

They also bring all sorts of demonic beasts, which pose an extreme danger to the people of the city, even though everyone practices martial arts.

Running into a stronger monster could still cause serious casualties, especially among the weaker.

Of course, a Dimensional Rift also meant the city had gained a new monster-spawning ground, one holding a fair amount of treasure.

It cut both ways, but if too many monsters poured in from the Rift early on, dealing with them would be a headache.

Listening to the Class Teacher, Lucian recalled the patrols that morning.

Barring surprises, this had to be the reason.

“Teacher, have monsters already entered the city?” Some classmates couldn’t hold back and quickly asked.

After all, they still had families.

They were relatively safe at school, but their family members outside might not be.

That was why the student was so anxious, dreading the possibility of bad news when they got home.

“The patrol teams are already conducting a full search, but there may still be a few stragglers.

The city will likely put out a notice soon to keep everyone safe,” the Class Teacher explained considerately.

At that, the students finally breathed easier.

The city being on alert was excellent news.

Glancing over the room and seeing everyone settled, the Class Teacher began the lesson.

There was still a cultural studies class this morning, and it was hers.

Once it ended, they’d have their magic class.

“Everyone take out your ethics textbook.

Today we’ll be covering this.” Teacher Hale picked up a piece of chalk and started writing on the board.

Lucian took out his books too and began mulling over a question in his mind.

For others this might be dangerous, but for Lucian it was a great chance to make money.

If he actually ran into monsters and killed them, he could trade them in for a tidy sum.

It was an opportunity to strike it rich.

As long as the demonic beasts weren’t too powerful, he should be fine.

And if he was careful, he could manage it.

After all, Lucian had Kato’s Talent.

If he really wanted to hide, those demonic beasts shouldn’t be able to do a thing to him.

The more he thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.

Maybe he’d go searching after school this afternoon.

Finding some would be great; if not, so be it.

He didn’t know how many demonic beasts had slipped into the city, but there’d always be a chance, wouldn’t there?

Mind made up, Lucian settled in to listen closely.

He’d already memorized the book, so during class he multitasked, continuing to organize the sword technique he planned to develop next.

The class soon ended.

Teacher Hale said, “From the next period until lunch break, you’ll have Magic Guidance class.

In the afternoon, Martial Arts class.

Barring anything unexpected, this will be your schedule from now on.

Keep it in mind.”

With that, Teacher Hale left, and the room came alive.

Everyone who needed to call home started contacting their families to pass on what the Class Teacher had just said.

Only an orphan like Lucian, or someone unworried about their family running into trouble, stayed relatively calm.

Most of the class were ordinary people, and they worried most about their families, especially those whose relatives weren’t particularly strong.

The parents of the few sitting near Lucian weren’t in the area, so they weren’t worried about this at all.

“Lucian, aren’t you going to let your family know?” Seeing the others’ reactions, Kato looked at him, a little puzzled.

Was Lucian not a local?

Had he come from another district like them?

“I’m an orphan.” The moment he said it, the mood turned awkward, and Kato was utterly flustered.

“I’m sorry…

I didn’t mean to…” It was truly embarrassing; she honestly hadn’t meant to ask that.

“It’s fine.

It’s no big deal.” Lucian didn’t take it to heart.

Asuna and Yukinoshita were both surprised too just then.

They’d never expected Lucian to be an orphan.

No one had known, Yukinoshita least of all.

This guy really was incredible; he’d gotten this strong entirely on his own…

Even before Awakening his Talent, Lucian must have been quite outstanding; getting into this school said it all.
