It had been less than a day since Dan Lee and the others were brought to town to rest.

The police had already closed the case regarding the cavern, publicly claiming it was the work of terrorists without making any mention of the Wendigo.

During this time, Dan Lee picked up a bit of information about the Vatican.Full novel: Defeating Horror with Horrors — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

There was a priest in town—the type who would spill anything if given enough money.

Not all priests and nuns of the Holy See were loyal to the Church.

There were fallen ones among them too; the only difference was whether they operated out in the open or behind closed doors.

According to the priest, unless a cover-up proved impossible, the Church would generally keep things under wraps to prevent public panic.

Once a threat was confirmed, the Church would dispatch exorcists or priests to perform an exorcism.

Exorcists were usually hired freelancers.

Learning so much about the Church was a pleasant little surprise for Dan Lee.

Afterward, Dan Lee returned to Clam Shell Town alongside Miss Beth.

Clam Shell Town was as lively as ever.

Chief Pete managed the place with impeccable order, and homicides were rare—at least on the surface.

Behind closed doors was another story.

The town residents had plenty of complaints about Officer Old Joe and Brother Q, both of whom were good buddies of Pete.

One was a wheelchair-bound officer, while the other was a walking sex machine.

The former was tolerable, but the latter was an absolute scum—a bisexual disease carrier whose transgender father had supposedly done unspeakable things with dogs.

Oh, and right—Pete’s son and daughter were hopelessly stupid, sitting at the bottom of their school ranks while also loving…

What others saw as flaws were full-blown virtues in Dan Lee’s eyes.

In Clam Shell Town, he felt a sense of security he couldn’t find anywhere else.

Having just returned home and collapsed onto his detached villa’s sofa, Dan Lee held the Four of Diamonds in his hand.

Now that the incident had settled, it was time to check the abilities of the Evil Spirit Wendigo.

[Containment Item: Evil Spirit Wendigo] [Extractable Abilities: Soul Devour, Bloodlust, Evil Spirit Possession, Constitution Reinforcement, Barbed Bone Spikes] Soul Devour was literal—it could devour a person’s soul, a skill shared by most demons and evil spirits.

He hadn’t seen the Evil Spirit Wendigo use it, so perhaps it required specific conditions?

It didn’t seem particularly useful to Dan Lee.

As for Barbed Bone Spikes, he had already seen it in action; while its imposing presence was undeniably terrifying, it wasn’t suitable for ordinary human bodies.

After all, having bone spikes erupting through skin across one’s entire body was a tough sell.

Bloodlust, belonging to the Evil Spirit Wendigo, was naturally potent, but its side effects were equally pronounced.

Evil Spirit Possession was even more useless.

Why bother with spirit possession when he could merge directly with the containment item?

Anything called an evil spirit was bound to be trouble, and if it squatted inside his body and refused to leave, he would be in deep shit.

The second stage of the Evil Spirit Wendigo earlier was likely a combination of Evil Spirit Possession and Barbed Bone Spikes.

The only difference was that the evil spirit and the Wendigo had already fused into a single entity.

Invoking Evil Spirit Possession normally would most likely draw the attention of nearby spirits, triggering a tragic chain of events that ended in having one’s soul devoured.

By comparison, Constitution Reinforcement was the ability best suited for Dan Lee.

Unlike previous specific buffs to strength or hearing, constitution was an all-around physical upgrade, and the boost magnitude was far greater than what he got from the Mutant.

“Extract.” Once he understood what each ability did, Dan Lee didn’t hesitate.

Without any casting wind-up or tedious rituals, he initiated the draw.

[Containment Item: Evil Spirit Wendigo] [Mergable Ability: Evil Spirit Possession] Well, the Constitution Reinforcement he had been hoping for didn’t drop; instead, he got Evil Spirit Possession.

Still, that was normal.

With a one-in-five chance, he couldn’t expect to get whatever he wanted on command.

Fortunately, Evil Spirit Possession was an active talent rather than a passive one.

Otherwise, Dan Lee wouldn’t dare integrate it.

In a world like this, who knew if walking down the street might draw an evil spirit’s gaze and get him possessed?

As an active trait, it wasn’t a problem, since he could at least control it.

It might even produce unexpected wonders in certain situations.

He just wondered what would happen if he fused with the Evil Spirit Wendigo while activated under Evil Spirit Possession.

With his major tasks resolved, Dan Lee relaxed, ready to take a nice afternoon nap.

Just as drowsiness began to creep over him, the doorbell chimed insistently.

Dan Lee tried to ignore it, wanting nothing more than a good nap, but the ringing continued without pause.

Who the hell was this?

Dan Lee had been on the verge of sleep.

He hadn’t slept at all inside the cavern, and had only managed a couple of hours at the motel.

Being disturbed like this put him in a foul mood.

Opening the door, he found a stunning golden-tanned beauty standing outside—her skin wasn’t naturally dark, but intentionally tanned.

Her identity was obvious.

Jennifer had been keeping an eye on Dan Lee’s villa, so as soon as he returned, she had marched over.

She had clearly dressed up for the occasion.

She wore a white button-up shirt tied loosely at the waist, accentuating her slender midriff, paired with denim shorts that showcased her long, sleek legs.

The casual outfit oozed effortless vitality.

“What is it?” Dan Lee had to admit that while he was annoyed at being woken up, Jennifer’s face and figure made it hard to stay mad at her—especially when she had an excuse to come by.

“Didn’t I say I was going to pursue you?

Calling you goes straight to voicemail and you never pick up.

You’re breaking my heart.” The saying that all women were drama queens held true, and Jennifer was top-tier among them.

Possessing the striking face of a mature bombshell, she put on a pouting, pitiful expression that created quite the contrast.

Dan Lee scratched his head, speechlessly saying, “I was taking a nap.

You interrupted my sleep.” Jennifer was exasperated.

Any other guy by now would be eagerly inviting her inside to study human anatomy.

Yet Dan Lee stood there looking half-asleep.

Was she really that lacking in charm?

“Since you’re already awake, aren’t you going to invite me in to hang out?” Dan Lee thought it over and stepped aside to grant her passage.

“Fine, come on in.

But you’ll have to tell me if you’ve encountered anything weird lately.” Had it been before, he definitely wouldn’t have let Jennifer inside.

But now that he had contained the Evil Spirit Wendigo, he felt significantly more confident facing so-called demons.

Based on the demonic possession shown in *Jennifer’s Body*, the Evil Spirit Wendigo seemed to have the upper hand.

As for their true forms, he wasn’t sure.

In any case, they could talk inside first.
