Moments later, sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder as they approached.
An ambulance and police vehicles finally arrived at the scene.
Medical staff stepped out carrying a stretcher.
Gently, Zhuzhu helped lift the mysterious girl onto it.
Unwilling to be separated from her even for a moment, Zhuzhu climbed into the ambulance as well, sitting beside the injured girl.
Throughout the journey to the hospital, Zhuzhu kept holding the girl’s shoulder firmly.
Even though they had never met, her heart felt as though she owed this woman her life.
“Doctor, how is she?” Zhuzhu asked anxiously.
“The wound isn’t too deep, but it was caused by a sharp object and she lost a lot of blood.
We need to examine her further in the emergency room,” the doctor replied.
“Please do everything you can, Doctor!
She risked her life to save mine,” Zhuzhu pleaded, her eyes glistening with tears.
“Rest assured, Miss.
We will do our very best.” After a thirty-minute ride, they arrived at the hospital.
As the girl was wheeled into the emergency room, something fell from her without anyone noticing.
Zhuzhu tried to follow, but a nurse asked her to wait outside.
She sat quietly on a bench near the door, waiting with growing unease.
Hours passed before the doctor finally came out.
“Excuse me, Miss — are you her family?” the doctor asked.
“No, Doctor.
But she is the one who saved my life.
How is she now?” “Thankfully, the stitches on her arm are complete.
There’s no dangerous infection, but she will need several days of complete rest in the ward.” “Thank you so much, Doctor!
I will cover all of her medical expenses.” Relieved by the news, Zhuzhu walked toward the ward.
Suddenly, her foot brushed against something hard and gleaming near the waiting bench: a necklace made of clear jade, shaped like a crescent moon.
Her eyes widened instantly, and a wave of familiarity washed over her.
She remembered — when the girl had shielded her, the violent impact had torn the necklace loose without anyone noticing.
And since the girl had been pressing her wound, and had kicked an empty can earlier — it wasn’t this necklace that had fallen then.
This precious object had slipped unnoticed onto the floor.
As she clutched the necklace tightly against her chest, fleeting images of the past flashed through her mind.
It felt as though this object had once belonged to her, as if she had held it a thousand times — yet the vision vanished as quickly as it had come.
Zhuzhu stood still, whispering softly to herself: “Why do these visions keep appearing… they are so different from the nightmares I’ve been having these past days.
Could it be… this necklace… holds some secret connection to me?” She shook her head gently, pushing aside the overwhelming curiosity.
“Never mind… perhaps I’m just overthinking things and still shaken by trauma.
What matters most now is staying by this girl’s side — the one who sacrificed herself to save my life.” With determined steps, she made her way to the hospital ward, resolved to watch over the mysterious girl until she had fully recovered.
