Those who had stopped fleeing because of the light also felt the warmth that soothed their bodies.
Under the blessing of the two Prayers, vigorous power was bursting forth from within them.
None of them knew which deity that golden symbol represented; they had never seen it before.
It was not the mark of Sigmar, not the mark of Taal, not Verena, Myrmidia, Shallya, Ranald…
or the mark of any gods worshipped by humans.
But none of them cared which deity that golden symbol represented, because they had seen with their own eyes the miracle that had already been bestowed upon them.
They had not been abandoned; they still had hope.
“Citizens of Nuln!” Under the blessing of the Prayer, the young girl’s crisp voice seemed to have become incomparably resounding.
“For our loved ones, for our city, for ourselves!” “Forward!
Go to the Palace District!” Mia gestured forcefully to Wilden in the direction of the Palace District.
The latter understood immediately, pushed through the crowd, drew his two swords, and charged toward the Skaven ahead who were reeling from the flashbang.
“Follow our knight!” Mia held high the golden sword in her hand.
That noble rapier seemed to be enveloped by the Grace of the Erdtree, emitting golden light, and raised high in the young girl’s hand, it was like a shining lighthouse.
She could perceive that the two PlusProMax-level Prayers she had cast had consumed more than two-thirds of her energy.
She quickly took out the blue flask of sacred tears, drank a mouthful of dew, and prepared for the battle to come.
The citizens of Nuln were invigorated by the light of the Erdtree; the grace healed their wounds and also lifted their spirits.
The fear and panic from fleeing were instantly reversed.
“For Sigmar!!!” The men roared out their faith, holding chairs, wooden boards, and fire tongs they had picked up at random, smashing the sharpest ends fiercely into those hideous giant rats.
The Clanrat and slave rats were not even as tall as the men’s chests.
Holding crudely made weapons and with almost no armor for protection, the Clanrat could not defeat anyone without numbers, and now they were dizzy from the golden flashbang.
The high-spirited citizens of Nuln struck down the Skaven.
Those who followed picked up the weapons dropped by the Skaven and turned to cover the warriors charging in front, and the Skaven they killed also provided usable weapons for those warriors.
The most eye-catching and inspiring one was still Wilden.
This ‘giant’ who never lacked attention charged into the Skaven like a tank.
Even if he wasn’t riding a horse, his solid frame was comparable to a fully armored knight charging at full speed.
Almost all the Skaven were not even as tall as his thighs.
The always-silent Soldier revealed only a pair of golden eyes, and his two straight swords, like a harvester, carved a bloody path through the Skaven swarm where no rat survived, leaving limbs and severed arms all over the ground.
This was the first time Mia had seen Wilden face a real war.
She was not an amateur.
When she had just transmigrated over, the grace had given her combat skills, so that now, when she looked at Wilden’s swordsmanship, she wouldn’t just be able to say “Holy shit.” So, in what way was Wilden fighting?
He was like a machine, a machine manufactured specifically for slaughter.
It was the purest and most direct way of fighting, accumulated over countless years of life and countless years of war.
Wilden was a clear-headed Royal Army Soldier; his sword moves had not a single bit of superfluous action, decisive and firm.
Every swing of his sword was to achieve his goal as quickly and efficiently as possible.
His dual swords sliced open the Skaven’s bodies.
The remaining citizens, with Wilden as the spearhead, instantly overwhelmed the black tide of Skaven.
Mia still stood at that high vantage point, guiding the way for the Nuln people who hadn’t been able to catch up yet.
The men and women capable of fighting spontaneously protected the old and weak in the middle.
The Skaven began to flee in rout.
Those Clanrat that had been closely following the group and hunting civilians were shocked by the unprecedented light.
Those Clanrat captains leading the troops had no ability at all to salvage the rat-folk who had fallen into fear, even though they had not suffered any casualties.
When one Skaven began to fear, the rout became uncontrollable.
Because Skaven could smell the scent called ‘fear.’ When a Skaven was afraid, its glands would secrete pheromones carrying fear, letting other Skaven smell it.
This unique and transparent emotional sharing often caused an entire Skaven unit to fall into fear over a small matter.
Unless the consequences of their fleeing behavior would bring about greater fear.
“No running!
Go back and fight!
Any rat-folk that turns back dies, die!” The leader of a unit of Stormvermin pressing the line from behind the rat swarm shrieked with uncontrollable rage.
The Stormvermin advanced against the routing rat swarm, mercilessly hacking and slashing every fleeing Clanrat.
This was the Skaven; this race possessed no positive virtues whatsoever.
They never cared about the life of anything other than themselves.
The Clanrat barely managed to stop their rout under the slaughter of the Stormvermin.
“Yes, yes!
Rat-folk!
Turn back, attack!” “Occupy this city!
Enslave its residents!
Human priest-thing, die!
Die!” These Stormvermin, wearing heavy armor and holding grotesque weapons, led the Clanrat and charged toward the direction where Mia was.
Every Stormvermin scrambled to gain merit for itself.
Even though they were the elite among the Skaven, they still had no discipline to speak of, swarming over in a chaotic mess together with the Clanrat.
