“King Caius?” Hazel repeated the name in a soft, stunned voice.

He was the legend every young wolf learned about in every werewolf school.

The teachers always spoke about how powerful he was.

Almost no one truly believed he had existed, because the stories made him sound too strong and too perfect.

They said he was closer to the Moon Goddess than any other werewolf who had ever lived.

Hazel connected the man from her dreams to those old stories.

A cold chill ran down her back.

Emily scoffed.

“Don’t celebrate yet. It’s not a good thing.” She turned around and folded her arms.

“In ancient immortal history, they said the ugly ones are usually the nicest. The deadly ones are the good-looking and dangerous ones.”

Hazel rolled her eyes.

“That’s why the Demon King is handsome, and he’s the bad guy.”

She remembered something she had read.

Human researchers noticed that non-human beings were split into different kinds.

The good ones were rarely blessed with beauty.

The bad ones were often extremely beautiful.

Humans could not help falling for them the moment they saw them.

They would submit completely and let themselves be manipulated.

The first human who ever saw a non-human being went crazy and was sent to a mental hospital.

She fell hard for the man the second she looked at him.

The funniest and saddest part was that the man only wanted to kill her for her flesh and blood.

The woman did not even care.

That was why governments begged the immortals to stay in their own cities.

They made deals so that non-humans would never show their true forms to regular humans.

Immortals could own companies in the human world, but they had to stay hidden.

Hazel raised her chin.

“So?”

Emily chuckled.

“King Caius is twice as good-looking as the Demon King. And he was not a good person either. I know you are planning to wake him up with Ryan’s help.”

“Ryan?” Hazel frowned in confusion.

At first, she thought she heard it wrong…but mentioning his name again… This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.

Emily sighed and stepped closer.

“Listen carefully. The chance that King Caius will kill you is seventy-five per cent.”

Hazel froze.

She looked at Akeelah and Janet; to her surprise, they were very calm…

Hazel turned back to Emily.

“Who said I want to go and wake him?”

Emily chuckled and patted her shoulder.

“You must wake him, dear. The reason he may kill you is if he finds out you are his mate… and a weak one. He might snap your neck before you even say hello.”

Hazel stepped back and held her own neck with both hands.

“Why would he be that cruel?!”

Emily sneered.

“Didn’t I just tell you he wasn’t a good person?”

“Hey… hey!” Janet groaned and quickly stood between them.

She looked at Emily and sighed.

“My gosh, Emily. You are too sarcastic and too blunt.”

Emily pointed at Hazel, who was already blushing.

“Won’t you tell her the truth? She’s a dark romance fan. She thinks dangerous men are a good thing.”

Hazel’s face grew hotter.

Her mind had already started drifting to images of a good-looking man with a sexy slim waist, a sharp Adam’s apple, and large ….

“Look! She’s already in her stupid daydreaming again!” Emily’s sharp voice snapped her back.

“You are making noise, fool!” Hazel barked back

Emily gritted her teeth.

“Caius’s brothers killed their own mates. They believed mates would make them weak. Romeo was the nicest of all four brothers. He didn’t kill his mate… he only rejected her.” She pushed Janet aside and moved closer to Hazel again.

“Do you know who the most ruthless of the four brothers was?”

Hazel blinked and bit her lip.

“It was Caius. Surprisingly, he led our race so well, but he was not a good person when it came to personal matters, Hazel.” Emily looked at Akeelah and Janet.

“Am I lying?!”

To Hazel’s surprise, both girls shook their heads.

Emily was telling the truth.

Emily scoffed.

“If you wake him up, you better run before he smells you… Well, thank heavens you don’t even have any scent.” Then she turned and left the library. This chapter was taken from NovelPing without permission.

“Wow…” Hazel stared at the closed door in a daze.

Akeelah and Janet quickly pulled her deeper into the library.

“We have no time,” Janet said firmly.

“We must wake King Caius today.”

Hazel pulled her arms free.

“Didn’t you hear what she said? She said there’s a high chance he will kill me! How did we even get to this? Who are you two?”

Janet sighed.

“You will know soon.” She stepped closer.

“In case you don’t know… the witches already know you are his mate. Don’t ask me how… It’s a long story. But that’s why they sent the traitors Scarlett and Sarah to get rid of you while you were under your father’s care. The witches want you dead so you will never be able to wake him.”

Hazel blinked.

The dream of the man kneeling before the Four Elemental Witches flashed through her mind.

“Why did the witches kill him?” she asked.

Akeelah chuckled softly.

“Kill? They couldn’t kill him. They cursed him instead. That is why he has been asleep for two hundred years inside a dark crystal.”

Hazel’s frown deepened.

“Why did they curse him?”

Janet nodded and quickly tied her braids back.

“Come.”

She led Hazel to an old wooden shelf at the back of the library.

From the highest shelf, she pulled down a thick, dark book.

The cover made Hazel’s stomach tighten.

The book was bound in black leather that looked almost burnt.

On the front was a silver werewolf, but the silver was cold and dull, like dead metal.

The wolf’s body was long and lean, its mouth open in a silent snarl filled with sharp teeth.

One of its eyes was a deep, glowing red.

The other was a bright, freezing blue.

Both eyes burned with pure rage, as if the wolf on the cover was still alive and ready to tear the world apart.

Dark scratches and old blood-like stains covered the edges of the leather.

Hazel swallowed hard.

“Who wrote this book?”

Janet started opening the heavy pages.

“I don’t know. It’s the history of Caius. His parents were the first werewolves in history.”

Hazel’s eyes widened with amusement “First werewolves?”
