With little strength to begin with, she was easily blocked by the young man. His large hand wrapped around her entire fist, his thumb gently rubbing the webbing between her thumb and index finger.
“What if I really did cheat?” His tone was casual.
“Impossible!” The girl tried to pull her hand back with a bit more force but couldn’t free it, so she simply let him hold it. “You don’t need to.”
“You believe in me that much?” His bright, starry eyes were filled with laughter, and his already delicate features came to life. Lin Kuizhi was momentarily dazed before nodding earnestly, like pounding garlic.
“Of course! You’re Chi Yu!” Her cute face still had a hint of baby fat, now filled with unmistakable trust.
The straightforward declaration caught Chi Yu off guard. He coughed twice, covering his mouth with a fist in an attempt to hide his reaction. “Let’s go, class is about to start.”
He had never been trusted so firmly before.

Feeling his sleeve being tugged, the young man turned around to see the girl’s worried expression, focused and caring only for him.
A slight smile touched Chi Yu’s lips as he gave her a reassuring look. He stood up calmly and walked out of the classroom.The classroom once again buzzed with hushed discussions, accompanied by occasional glances toward Lin Kuizhi.
Knowing that making a scene would only harm Chi Yu’s reputation, she refrained from her usual outbursts to silence them.
She waited patiently until the homeroom teacher had walked far enough away before slipping out quietly.
“Hey! Xiao Zhizhi, where are you going?” Yue Xin was startled, calling out in a low, suppressed voice, but could only watch as the girl darted away like a cat.
Teacher’s Office.
Chi Yu stood obediently before the homeroom teacher.
“Chi Yu, I assume you’re aware of the incident,” the teacher picked up his thermos, unscrewed the lid, and poured a small cup of hot water. “How do you explain it?”
“Teacher, I didn’t cheat,” Chi Yu replied calmly.
The teacher adjusted his glasses and looked up, studying his expression. “Really? Then how do you explain the paper ball that fell from you?”
“I don’t know.”
A scoff came from across the room—it was Gu Chen, who had come to deliver assignments.
Seeing Chi Yu glance at him, Gu Chen raised an eyebrow provocatively.
Caught cheating, huh? Impressive.
Chi Yu didn’t seem bothered; instead, a faint smile curled at the corner of his lips.
It looked anything but innocent.
The smile made Gu Chen frown. What was he up to?
“Chi Yu, your grades are already good. Why resort to such self-deception?” Steam rose from the hot water. The teacher took a sip, then removed his glasses to wipe away the fog.
“Teacher, I really didn’t cheat,” Chi Yu sighed deeply.
“Still refusing to admit it!” The teacher grew angry, slamming the cup heavily on the desk and splashing a few drops of hot water.
He despised dishonesty and immediately punished Chi Yu with ten laps around the track.
Chi Yu lowered his head expressionlessly and accepted the punishment. As he passed Gu Chen, who wore a smug look, he cast a fleeting glance his way. In that moment, Gu Chen saw a triumphant glint in his eyes.
Gu Chen had felt uneasy earlier, but watching Chi Yu run lap after lap on the track below, he relaxed and stood by the window, enjoying the sight of Chi Yu’s misfortune.
By the final lap, Gu Chen still hadn’t seen Lin Kuizhi follow him.
Tsk tsk, he shook his head knowingly. It seemed the young miss Lin had grown tired of him. He cast a pitying gaze toward Chi Yu.
Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat. His eyes fixed on the scene below, pupils tightening slightly.

His knee was badly scraped, the bloody wound looking terrifying. The girl holding his hand trembled.

The boy weakly grunted in agreement. Once he stood up, he leaned heavily on Lin Kuizhi, from behind appearing as if he had wrapped the girl entirely in his embrace.
Gu Chen took it all in. At that moment, he felt as though both his original ID card and its photocopy had been shuffled into a deck of playing cards.
Recalling the contemptuous look Chi Yu had given him before leaving, Gu Chen clenched his fists, gritting his teeth.

The infirmary was empty, so Lin Kuizhi helped him sit down first.
She fetched saline solution and carefully cleaned his wound.
“Hiss.”
Hearing his pained inhale, Lin Kuizhi leaned closer to the wound and gently blew on it.
Chi Yu’s thigh tensed instantly, and his hand pressed into the soft flesh of the girl’s arm, leaving an indentation.
