Upon hearing those words, Su An thought to himself: More than just knowing each other we sleep in the same bed at night.
Wen Yun walked toward the passenger side, but just as she opened the door, Yu Feng stopped her. “Ms. Wen, you go sit in the back. Let my dear ‘younger brother’ come over here; I want to ‘bond’ with him a little.”
Wen Yun shot him a skeptical look before walking to the rear door and getting into the car.
Seeing this, Su An followed suit. “Auntie Wen, I’ll keep you company.”
Su An stepped one foot into the back of the vehicle.
“My dear brother,” Yu Feng said tonelessly.
Su An ignored him, his other foot leaving the ground to follow.
Yu Feng’s voice remained flat: “Brother.”
Su An gritted his teeth. Is he an AI?
At this moment, he didn’t want to hear the word “brother” from Yu Feng’s mouth ever again. He slammed the rear door shut, stomped his feet loudly, and sat in the passenger seat with a face full of resentment.
The interior of the car fell silent for a moment. Wen Yun, sitting in the back, looked between the two of them. Finally, she leaned her head between them and narrowed her eyes, delivering her verdict.
“There is something going on with you two.”
Su An was startled by her words. He fiddled with his fingers on his lap, unsure of how to respond, and could only cast a pleading look toward Yu Feng.
Seeing that Yu Feng was staring straight ahead and not looking at him at all, Su An—hidden from Wen Yun’s sight—gave Yu Feng a sharp pinch.
Yu Feng glanced at him in pain. Su An signaled with his eyes, hoping Yu Feng would quickly find a topic to skip over this conversation.
Amused by Su An’s frantic anxiety in the passenger seat, Yu Feng said to Wen Yun in the back, “Alright, Ms. Wen, stop playing detective. Fasten your seatbelt.”
Although Wen Yun was disdainful, she fastened her belt. She looked at the back of Su An’s head, curled her lip, and said, “Xiao Su, let’s play together. We won’t include him.”
Su An nodded, then felt it wasn’t enough and replied, “Okay, Auntie Wen.”
As Yu Feng drove, he spared a glance for Su An, then turned back indifferently. Not playing with me? I’ve noted that down.
Throughout the journey, Wen Yun constantly looked for topics to talk about. As Su An chatted with her, he gradually began to open up, no longer as constrained as he had been when they first met.
However, whenever Wen Yun tried to pry into their relationship with subtle questions, Su An would clumsily change the subject. Sometimes, when he saw he couldn’t escape, he would poke the man beside him and make Yu Feng answer.
The car soon arrived home.
As they got out, Su An finally let out a sigh of relief. He and Yu Feng walked behind, and Yu Feng teased, “Our relationship is progressing quite rapidly. One day apart and you’ve become my younger brother.”
Su An reached out to cover his mouth, but Yu Feng caught his hand and gave it a light kiss on the fingertips. A tingle spread from his hand throughout his whole body. Su An hissed in a low, angry voice, “Don’t you dare use that word again!”
“Are we having an affair now, Babe?” A smile played on Yu Feng’s lips as he teased him.
“I…”
“Why are you two walking so slowly?” Wen Yun, walking ahead, turned around and looked at the two behind her with confusion. “What are you doing holding hands?”
“He said something got into his eye, so he asked me to help him check.”
In his nervousness, Su An’s hand—which hadn’t been withdrawn yet—jerked back instinctively. A crisp, loud slap landed squarely on Yu Feng’s face.
Yu Feng was stunned by the sudden slap. Hearing the sound of the hit, Su An snapped back to his senses and hurriedly leaned in to see if that handsome face had been damaged by his hand.
“I didn’t mean to!”
In the distance, Wen Yun saw her son get slapped and witnessed his bewildered expression. She instantly burst into a fit of laughter. “Son! You’ve finally met your match!”
Yu Feng’s reaction was complex. After the slap, he was first dazed, then so angry he almost wanted to laugh. Seeing Su An’s nervous look, he felt a bit helpless. Finally, hearing Wen Yun’s laughter, he had a sudden urge to send Ms. Wen back abroad.
“Ms. Wen, I can send you back overseas to eat bread immediately,” Yu Feng said flatly.
Wen Yun went quiet instantly. She really didn’t want to eat bread abroad anymore. Was Chinese food not delicious? Were Boiled Fish with Pickled Cabbage and Spicy Chicken not tasty?
Who knew what a miserable life she had been living overseas!
After a series of complications, the three of them finally managed to reach the front door.
The moment the door opened, Su An realized: his clothes, slippers, and other belongings were placed in incredibly obvious spots. Wen Yun would be able to tell at a glance.
Sure enough, looking at the two pairs of slippers at the entrance that clearly showed signs of use, Wen Yun subconsciously asked, “Son, have you found a girlfriend?”
Yu Feng didn’t answer. He naturally loosened his tie, took off his suit jacket, and walked into the house.
Wen Yun assumed he was confirming it, but seeing that the style of the slippers didn’t look like something a woman would wear, she frowned in deep thought.
Yu Feng naturally changed into his slippers. Seeing Su An standing still at the door, he raised an eyebrow and asked, “What are you standing there for? My house doesn’t need a little door-god.”
Su An wanted to make a final struggle. He tried to keep his voice steady, pretending it was his first time here. “Does your house not have new slippers?”
Yu Feng understood his subtext. He glanced at Wen Yun, who had already entered, and pointed at the slippers on the floor. “None left. Only those.”
After putting on the slippers, Su An glanced at the living room, which was full of “clues,” and felt his vision go dark. Having lived here for a while, there were things he had left everywhere—a jacket on the sofa, a pen holder on the coffee table, a plush doll in the corner…
Forget it. If she finds out, she finds out. I’m giving up.
Su An made up an excuse to go to the bathroom to escape the awkwardness. Even if Wen Yun discovered the truth, he would let Yu Feng face it.
Earlier, while waiting for Wen Yun in the car, Yu Feng had messaged Auntie Chen to let her go home early. He had anticipated that Su An and Ms. Wen would likely meet at the house, but he hadn’t expected them to meet so early at the exhibition.
He walked into the kitchen and began preparing dinner. Wen Yun wandered around the living room, and suddenly, she spotted a few pieces of paper on the coffee table.
She picked up the papers; they were a few discarded design drafts. Although they were “scraps,” she observed them carefully. The imagery and lines made her eyes light up—it had been a long time since she had seen hand-drawn drafts with such unique personal character.
In the bottom right corner, a designer’s signature was written in a flowing hand: Aurora.
Looking at the drafts, Wen Yun was impressed, but she also couldn’t help but think of another problem.
First, these designs were definitely not drawn by Yu Feng—that brat who knew nothing about design and lacked any artistic aesthetic. Second, the person who drew these lived here. Finally, the owner of these designs was very likely dating Yu Feng.
A few clues flooded her mind, and Wen Yun had a sudden realization. She stood up and walked into the kitchen. Hearing the footsteps, Yu Feng turned back to look at her.
“What is it, Ms. Wen?”
Wen Yun waved the design drafts in her hand with a triumphant smile. “Son, are these Xiao Su’s?”
“Haven’t you already guessed it?” Yu Feng didn’t show much surprise at her words.
Wen Yun looked enlightened. She stepped forward and patted Yu Feng’s shoulder, saying with feigned seriousness, “If you aren’t good to Xiao Su, I’ll be the first to deal with you. Do you hear me?”
Yu Feng selectively ignored Ms. Wen’s favoritism and held back a smile. “Your ‘Xiao Su’ is so shy he’s already vanished.”
Only then did Wen Yun recall the unusual behavior they had shown from the exhibition gate to entering the house. She spoke with some hesitation, “I feel like… Xiao Su is a bit afraid of me.”
“Ms. Wen, stop guessing blindly.” Yu Feng patted the hand on his shoulder, comforting her. “A person who has walked on a tightrope for too long will still walk every step with caution even when they reach flat ground.”
“His family is very unkind to him. He likely hasn’t experienced much care from elders, so he didn’t know how to accept your enthusiasm at first.”
Yu Feng didn’t mention the specifics of Su An’s past, as Su An’s current identity was still the son of the Su family.
Wen Yun’s face darkened upon hearing this. She asked coldly, “The Su family?”
Yu Feng stopped what he was doing, a trace of ruthlessness flickering in his eyes. “Don’t worry. The Su family won’t last much longer.”
