Su An was lured downstairs by the aroma of food. He looked at Yu Feng sitting at the table and asked with some confusion, “Where is Auntie Wen?”
“Her…?” Yu Feng’s gaze drifted toward the kitchen. “She said she wanted to cook her specialty dish for you. Be careful.”
Su An was even more puzzled. Be careful? Of what?
It wasn’t until Wen Yun walked out carrying that “specialty dish” that Su An understood what Yu Feng meant by “be careful.”
“Xiao Su, eat more.” After sitting down, Wen Yun kept piling food onto Su An’s plate. Soon, his bowl was stacked as high as a small mountain.
Su An looked at the black, scorched mass in his bowl and couldn’t even identify what it was. He couldn’t decide whether to eat it or not. Just as he was about to “test the poison with his own body,” a pair of chopsticks reached over and took the charred lump away.
“Ms. Wen, Su An is allergic to fish. Stop giving it to him.” Yu Feng ate the fish meat with a perfectly normal expression.
“Allergic to fish? Then why didn’t you say so earlier?” Wen Yun glared at Yu Feng across the table, then turned to Su An. “I’m sorry, Auntie didn’t know. I won’t make braised fish next time. Xiao Su, eat something else.”
Wen Yun piled a few more helpings of other dishes into Su An’s bowl. The food, which he had barely touched, was now stacked even higher. Su An hurriedly said, “Auntie Wen, there’s no need. If there’s any more, I won’t be able to finish it.”
Seeing the bowl stacked so high that the rice was no longer visible, Wen Yun finally stopped. She took a bite of her own braised fish, her expression souring. She said with disdain, “Why is this fish sour?”
She thought for a moment and said, “Son, your refrigerator isn’t working. It needs to be replaced; the fish isn’t fresh anymore.”
Yu Feng’s lips twitched slightly in exasperation. “Ms. Wen, is it possible that you used vinegar instead of soy sauce?”
“That makes sense. Next time, you should put labels on them.” Wen Yun nodded, no longer pinning unfounded crimes on the refrigerator.
Listening to the dialogue between mother and son, Su An couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Yu Feng and Wen Yun’s gazes instantly fell upon him.
Su An: “…”
He swallowed his food and explained, “I… I didn’t mean anything else. I’m just… a little envious of the way you two interact.”
Seeing the lonely look in Su An’s eyes, Wen Yun felt deep heartache. “What is there to envy about this brat and me? Haven’t we agreed? You are my godson. Come, call me ‘Mom’ so I can hear it.”
Su An: “…”
Looking at Wen Yun’s expectant face, that word—which was incredibly foreign to him—rolled around in his throat a few times, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
Yu Feng spoke up to rescue him: “Alright, Ms. Wen. The food is going to get cold.”
Wen Yun didn’t push him further. There will come a day when I hear it, won’t there? Thus, with her own consolation, Wen Yun quickly cheered herself up and returned to her previous smiling self.
After dinner, Wen Yun told the two of them to rest while she went to the kitchen to tidy up the dishes.
Su An returned to his room, found a notebook, and began recording what he had seen and heard during the day.
Knock—knock—
The door was tapped, and Yu Feng pushed it open and walked in.
Looking at Su An, who was busy working on his drafts, Yu Feng walked over slowly. The desk was messy but organized. He took one of the drafts, studied it with effort for a few seconds, and then put it down.
Su An found his reaction amusing and asked, “What does President Yu think?”
“Beautiful.” After a moment’s thought, Yu Feng spat out those two words.
“Do you like design?” Yu Feng leaned against the desk, his eyes never leaving the person in front of him.
Su An stopped what he was doing. He put down the draft and turned sideways to meet Yu Feng’s gaze. Neither of them looked away. After a moment of silence, Su An spoke solemnly.
“I like it… I like it very much.”
When he said those words, a unique light instantly flickered in his dark eyes, like the most brilliant stars in the night sky—dazzling and charming.
“Then do you like me?” Yu Feng blurted out.
Hearing the question, Su An was just about to answer when a sharp, violent pain shot through his chest. It was immediately followed by a terrifying sensation of suffocation. The pain was like a sharp steel needle being ruthlessly driven into his nerves, hurting so much that he doubled over instantly.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Feng immediately supported Su An’s body as it began to slide down powerlessly.
Su An’s fingers gripped Yu Feng’s arm tightly. Large beads of sweat broke out profusely, and his face turned deathly pale. He found it difficult to make a sound, only managing to whisper with the last of his strength.
“…It hurts.”
Yu Feng didn’t have time to ask questions. He picked Su An up in his arms and ran downstairs.
Wen Yun heard the commotion and walked out of her room. Upon seeing the trembling, pale Su An, her heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly asked, “What happened to Xiao Su?”
Yu Feng didn’t have time to explain and shouted to Wen Yun, “Drive to the hospital!”
Su An huddled in Yu Feng’s arms, trembling uncontrollably from the pain. In his mind, the pain and his reason were constantly pulling at each other. He was all too familiar with this feeling—this was exactly what a heart attack felt like.
However, he had just had a physical examination a few days ago, and there were no problems with his heart. How could this…
Su An no longer had the strength to think. His hands clutched Yu Feng’s clothes tightly, like a drowning person reaching out to grab the only piece of driftwood beside him.
Seeing this, Yu Feng said to Wen Yun, “Ms. Wen, can you drive?”
Wen Yun grabbed the car keys and walked quickly to the driver’s seat. Before closing the door, she dropped a sentence: “Before I gave birth to you, I was a racing driver.”
Yu Feng sat in the back seat holding Su An. Just as the door was closed, Wen Yun slammed the accelerator and the car lunged forward.
Even someone as composed as Yu Feng couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat. He couldn’t resist instructing the person driving in front, “Be safe, Ms. Wen.”
Wen Yun kept her eyes fixed on the road ahead. “Don’t worry.” Her foot didn’t ease up on the accelerator at all.
Yu Feng pulled out his phone and dialed Gu Cheng.
“What do you want with this young master?” Not long after, a carefree voice came from the other end of the line.
“Be at the hospital within ten minutes,” Yu Feng said directly.
“Did something happen to you?” On the other end, Gu Cheng also dropped his playful tone.
“Hurry up, stop wasting time.” Yu Feng hung up the phone.
He looked at the person curled up in his arms, trembling. He reached out to wipe the sweat from the other’s forehead. Because he didn’t know where exactly Su An was hurting, Yu Feng could only hold him tightly and pat his back gently, trying to ease the pain.
Under Wen Yun’s aggressive driving, the car came to a steady stop at the hospital entrance with a beautiful drift.
Yu Feng jumped out of the car with Su An in his arms and ran toward the hospital. Gu Cheng and several doctors were already waiting at the entrance.
Yu Feng placed Su An on a gurney, his fingers trembling uncontrollably. He followed the doctors as they pushed the gurney toward the emergency room.
“I’m sorry, family members cannot enter. Please wait outside.” At the door of the emergency room, a doctor stopped Yu Feng. After speaking, the doctor hurried into the room.
Looking at the closed door in front of him, Yu Feng leaned against the wall by the entrance, feeling powerless. This feeling was like fine sand slipping through his fingers—as if in the next second, it would scatter with the wind, impossible to hold.
Wen Yun, having parked the car, arrived in a hurry and asked anxiously, “How is Xiao Su?”
Yu Feng only stared at the emergency room without answering.
Facing the closed doors of the emergency room, the two of them fell into silence.
