“How long have you been standing here?”

“Long enough to hear everything.” She held a teacup in her hand, turning to the side to face the other woman as she answered without any attempt to hide it.

Yvonne Underwood sneered, planted her hands on her hips, and sauntered over to Selena Sinclair.Full novel: He Made Me a Joke, I Made Him a Stranger — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her eyes were filled with provocation.

“So what if you did?

If you dare say a word of this to anyone, I’ll tear your mouth to shreds.”

Selena usually avoided getting involved in this kind of drama, but hearing such a blatant threat, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of revulsion.

“If you think threats will work, Miss Underwood, feel free to give it a try!”

Selena tossed out the cold words and turned to leave.

“You…” Yvonne Underwood seethed through clenched teeth.

“Stop.” She stepped forward and grabbed Selena’s wrist.

CRASH!

The cup in her hand fell to the floor in an instant.

A surge of pure rage shot through Selena.

“Yvonne Underwood, are you insane?”

Yvonne Underwood quickly picked up her work ID and scrutinized it through clenched teeth.

“Selena Sinclair, Screenwriter.”

“You’re the new screenwriter?” Instantly, her attitude completely changed.

Her mouth formed an “O,” and her brows knitted together tightly.

Selena angrily wrenched her arm out of Yvonne’s grasp.

She had no desire to waste another word on someone like Yvonne Underwood, who was clearly just looking for trouble.

Yvonne Underwood huffed and planted her hands on her hips again.

“Selena Sinclair, you’d better not repeat a word of what you heard today.

Otherwise, you won’t even know what hit you.”

Selena abruptly stopped in her tracks.

Yvonne assumed her threat had worked.

But Selena had only stopped because, in the instant she looked up, she caught sight of Sylas Vaughn’s figure appearing at the end of the hallway.

Selena frowned, turned, and ducked into a side passage.

Just then, Sylas Vaughn watched her hastily disappearing back, and a flash of fury crossed his eyes.

‘She actually dared to run, right in front of him.’

Selena reached a nearby exit and quickly pulled the door shut.

She came face-to-face with the man’s icy, sharp gaze.

She gasped, her hand flying to the doorframe as it felt like the blood in her veins was running cold.

She hadn’t seen this man in three months and never thought they would meet again here.

Now, she was completely overwhelmed by his presence, a chill seeping deep into her bones.

She hastily tried to shut the door again, but the man’s broad palm was already pressed against it, holding it firmly in place and rendering her efforts useless.

Inside the stairwell, someone saw Sylas Vaughn caught in the doorway by Selena Sinclair.

But because it was Sylas Vaughn, no one dared to say a word.

They all quickly dispersed.

Selena gritted her teeth, finally let go of the door, and planted her hands on her hips.

“What are you doing here?”

‘Then again, with Sylas Vaughn’s means and status, finding me would have been child’s play, wouldn’t it?’

‘Still, I planned everything so meticulously, yet he found me anyway.’

“You ran away from home without a word and hid here for days.

What do you *think* I’m doing here?”

His words were seething with anger, and his dark, cold eyes reflected her panicked gaze, sending a frost-like chill straight to her heart.

In the past, no matter how Sylas Vaughn had treated her, he had never looked at her with such an expression.

For the first time, she saw a rage in his eyes, as if he wanted nothing more than to strangle her on the spot to vent the resentment he felt over her unannounced departure.

“Sylas Vaughn, I knew your eyesight was bad, but is your hearing failing now, too?

I already agreed to step aside for Hannah Hayes.

I don’t know what more you want from me.

Hmm?

Or is it that you feel guilty for treating me so poorly all these years?

Are you here to apologize?”
