Silence filled the room.
Nora was looking at Yeonho as if she was seeing him for the first time.
She said in a trembling voice:
“Your name…
is in the file?”
Yeonho lowered his head.
“Yes.”
Nora felt like the ground was shaking beneath her feet.
“So you knew everything from the beginning?”
He didn’t answer right away.
And that was the answer that scared her more than anything.
She shouted:
“Answer me!”
Yeonho sighed slowly.
“I only knew part of the truth.”
“And since when?”
“Since your father died.”
Nora stepped back.
She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Nora grabbed the file and started flipping through the pages quickly.
Then she stopped at a page with a strange title:
“Witnesses Under Protection.”
Her eyes widened.
Her father’s name was at the top of the list.
And directly below it was Yeonho’s name.
And several other names.
Nora asked:
“What does this mean?”
Taeho answered this time:
“Your father wasn’t part of the project.”
“What?”
“He was trying to expose it.”
Nora raised her head quickly.
“So he was killed because of that?”
Silence fell.
And the silence alone was enough of an answer.
Her eyes filled with tears.
All these years she had thought her father died in an accident.
But the truth was completely different.
She pulled out one last paper from the file.
And at the bottom was her father’s signature.
She started to read:
“If this letter reaches Nora, it means I wasn’t able to stop them.”
Her hands trembled.
And she continued reading:
“There is only one person who can protect you and know the whole truth.”
She paused for a moment.
Then she read the name written on the next line.
And her eyes widened in shock.
“No…
impossible.”
Yeonho came closer.
“What does it say?”
Nora slowly raised the paper.
And the name written was:
“Taeho.”
Everyone looked at Taeho.
As for him, he closed his eyes for a moment as if he had been dreading this moment for years.
Then he said calmly:
“It’s time for you to know everything.”
