It’s been about a year and something months since months since I first learned to use my ‘quirk’.

I am now a 2 years old toddler walking around and now forming short word sentences.

I have evolved from only drinking milk to now eating solid foods!

Since the awakening of my power I have been secretly training it, seeing how long I can keep it active for.

Eventually I was able to produce some electricity out of my body seeing it just dance across my palm was very motivating.

Similarly whenever I reach my limit I get incredibly hungry and exhausted afterwords.

I was able to disguise my increased appetite to a simple curiosity of new foods, inhaling everything they let me get my hands on.

It seems my body is using more energy to compensate for the extreme growth I’m going through.

Currently it was nearing bed time and I was outside laying on the ground to cool off and thinking of ways to spend my childhood days.

I usually just spend my day eating, training my electricity and running around to get my body moving.

“Denki! Come here, sweetheart—look!”

Hearing Hikari call out to me I pushed myself up from the cool grass and waddled over.

Hikari crouched down and pointed toward the bushes at the edge of the yard.

Little yellow dots blinked in the shadows.

“Fireflies” she whispered, smiling like she’d just shown me treasure.

Sei stepped out behind her, hands in his pockets, grinning.

“Think you can catch one, champ?”

I nodded taking to as a challenge and went over to grab one with my hands.

Unfortunately whenever I got close the fireflies kept moving away so I just ended up swinging my arms trying to catch one.

Hikari and Sei both laughed at my attempt before calling me over.

Hikari showing me to cup my palms gently, like holding a bubble saying I needed to have patience when a firefly flew into her hands

Mimicking her I position myself in front of the bushes and waited.

After a few seconds I was getting impatient and was mentally trying to convince the fireflies to all land in my hands.

Accidentally I let out a soft spark of electricity over my hands difficult to see if you weren’t paying attention but still got me worried.

Looking back I see Sei and Hikari also trying to collect some fireflies of their own and let out a sigh of relief.

Looking back I could see many fireflies have gotten closer but none landed on my hand.

I gave it a taught making sure my ‘parents’ weren’t looking and let out another tiny spark.

Suddenly many started moving towards me some even landed on my hand.

“Wow” Hikari said.

“It’s like they’re coming right to you.”

My chest puffed with pride.

I got up and walked forward, hands out.

Another spark danced over my fingertips—small, harmless, barely there.

The glowing insects seemed to blink back at me in encouragement.

Suddenly a firefly popped out right in front of me inches away from my face stopping me right in my tracks like it was staring me down.

Sei noticed and gave some words of encouragement “Careful… slow steps. You’re doing great.”

I moved closer, watching one float near my face.

Its light blinked…

blinked…

blinked…

I blinked back.

Another spark slipped out, a soft crackle like static.

The bug drifted toward my hands, and Mom let out a delighted gasp.

“Denki! You’re amazing it’s like you can communicate with them!”

They thought I was just cute.

They didn’t know I was using electricity—controlling the little currents, keeping them small, gentle.

But their happy voices made my chest warm, like something buzzing inside me that wasn’t electricity at all.

The firefly landed on my thumb.

“See?” Sei whispered proudly.

“They like you.”

I stared wide-eyed at the tiny glowing creature, its gentle light reflecting in my own faint sparks.

For a moment, it felt like we were speaking the same language.

Hikari wrapped an arm around us both.

“Let’s do this again every night.”

I nodded, still staring at the firefly, sparks tingling quietly under my skin—but tonight, not from training.

From happiness.

~~~~~
Two years had passed since the firefly event which turned into becoming our little family ritual, and somehow I had gone from wobbling steps and tiny sparks to a full-on four-year-old.
Ninety-eight centimeters tall—Sei measured twice because Hikari said I was ‘stretching on purpose’— now buzzing with so much energy I practically vibrated out of bed.
Today wasn’t just any day.
Today was my birthday, and it was the day I was finally planned to show Hikari [Mom] and Sei [Dad] what I could really do.
I barreled through my morning routine—teeth brushed (kind of), face washed (mostly), and pajamas swapped for my special yellow shirt that I insisted made me ‘faster’ I nearly tripped down the stairs in my excitement.
“Denki! Slow down!” Hikari called from the kitchen, laughing as I skidded onto the hardwood floor like a tiny, uncontrolled missile.
Sei, already sitting at the table with a mug in hand, grinned over “Looks like someone’s excited to be four.”
Hikari came from behind scooping me up into a warm hug, peppering my cheek with quick kisses.
“Our big birthday boy.” She set me down and nudged a small plate toward me.
“Sit. Eat your pancakes before they get cold.”
I climbed into my chair with excitement while I basically devoured the 6 stack pancakes in front of me.
The same electric feeling that I’ve trained everyday coursed through me, filling me with excitement
Today is the day I show them my ‘quirk’
Sei raised an amused eyebrow “you’re buzzing with more energy then usual? Is someone excited?”
Hikari leaned in letting out a small giggle “what’s gotten you so worked up? Presents? Cake? Finally turning 4?”
I swallowed my food, calmed my nerves and shook my head “something…else”
My little fingers curled I took a deep breath, remembering all those nights of tiny sparks only ever shared with fireflies and training sessions.
“I turned 4 today and have something to show you”
Sei and Hikari exchanged a look.
One of those parent conversations only done through tiny shrugs and eyebrow movement.
“Alright buddy, what do you want to show us?”
I hopped out of my chair feet hitting the ground as I moved to an open space between them.
The familiar static of electricity formed in my palms as I held them up towards them.
Remembering those first few sparks that I’ve kept secret for so long, but now I can openly show them.
Small yellow arks of lightning danced across my fingers.
Keeping them warm, steady and in control.
Hikari gasped, her hands flying to her mouth
Sei nearly dropped his mug seeing the arks of electricity.
“I…got my quirk today”
The room fell silent for just a moment before Hikari nearly tackled herself into me bringing me close into her arms letting small tears out.
“Oh my baby got his quirk! This day is just wonderful ! It couldn’t get better than this!”
Sei crouched bedside us, eyes wide shining with happiness “that’s incredible ! your quirk is amazing son, we’re so proud of you!”
I let out a smile and wiggled out of Hikari’s arms.
I started waving my hands around like I was performing magic, letting the lightning dance across my palms and pretending to be mesmerized by it.
Sei stood up, put the dishes in the sink, and came back with an idea that grabbed our attention.
“I know what we should do today. Let’s go to the doctor to get a better idea of what Denki’s quirk is.”
Hikari immediately agreed and began getting ready to go out.
I followed along, wondering if my ‘quirk’ would even show up since it technically wasn’t a quirk at all.
But I wasn’t worried.
I had full faith the entity would make everything go smoothly.
As we drove over and waited for our names to be called, I took the time to look around theat the other kids who were also excited to find out what their quirks were.
Not seeing anyone I recognized, I wondered when I’d meet the other future UA students.
I wasn’t sure if the original Denki ever ran into them before entering UA—he wouldn’t have recognized them, but I would.
Maybe I’d meet some of them naturally as I got older, but there was no guarantee.
I’d have to come up with a way to meet them before UA if I wanted a jump on the main story.
Just then, our names were called, and we were led into a room where the nurse took a DNA sample from me.
She left to run the analysis, and a few minutes later she returned with a clipboard in hand.
“Your son has an amazing quirk! His quirk is called Electric Control, and it allows him to generate and absorb electrical currents in the air, letting him discharge them from his body!”
…That’s not how I remember it.
I’m sure that wasn’t how Denki’s quirk was originally explained.
My memory is pretty good—I still remember everything from my original life, even after what that guy did to my head.
Wait—
Did she say I can absorb electrical currents from the air??
I knew I could generate and discharge electricity, but I could also absorb the surrounding electricity?
Why didn’t I think of that?!
Ugh—so much time wasted not knowing if I’d reached the limit of my power.
I really needed to start thinking more creatively, use every method that I knew with lightning abilities.
The nurse noticed my stunned expression and leaned down a bit “you have a very strong quirk. What do you want to be when you get older?”
Was that even a question?
Of course I knew!
“I want to become a hero who saves everyone from the evil villains.” (Or the sad society we live in.)
“That’s amazing!” she said brightly.
“I know you’ll become a great hero one day! Thank you all for coming in. Have a safe journey home.”
“Come on, champ,” Sei said as he lifted me onto his shoulder.
“Let’s go get some cake and celebrate your birthday.”
And with that, he carried me out, ready to make this day even more awesome.
