A few months later: The Crushing Weight Of Boredom Time passed Slowly Painfully Like watching wet paint dry while someone lectured you about “what 2+2 is”
I dragged myself through each day, my feet heavy, my eyelids heavier.
No matter how much recon I did…
this school was empty.
Empty of talent, empty of potential, empty of anyone even vaguely interesting I swear, the most exciting thing that happened in three months was when a kid sneezed and launched his shoe into the ceiling panel (It wasn’t even quirk-related. Just bad aim)
It’s the same routine over and over again
Morning: Wake up.
Eat breakfast.
Pretend not to die inside
Afternoon: Do schoolwork so easy my brain could finish all the school work in the last hour of the day Evening: Train, visit Izuku sometimes, try not to shock myself out of boredom Night: Wonder how the hell people lived years without entertainment At one point I started stacking my pencils into architectural structures during math class.
The teacher confiscated them.
I grabbed a new set and used static electricity to stack those too She confiscated those as well Then one afternoon, after school ended and I was at Izuku’s bourse lying on the bed like a corpse while he did school work.
I unconsciously said out loud
“…I refuse to rot here”
Izuku looked up from his notes, confused.
I waved him off
This level of boredom would kill me long before any villain ever could It was time Time for another transfer!
~~~~~~~
[Convincing parents round 2]
Hikari frowned the moment I brought it up
“Denki… you’ve only been there a few months.”
“I know,” I said, clasping my hands together with the solemn seriousness of a tiny monk.
“But the academic environment isn’t suited for long-term personal development. I’ve plateaued”
Damn was I really overselling the kid genius that I’m even using more longer and sophisticated words
…..frick I’m bored
Sei blinked twice.
“You’re nine”
“And a growing mind” I countered
A long silence
Hikari sighed into her hands.
“Is this about boredom again?”
“I’m too young to be suffering this much!!”
They exchanged a look—one of those grown-up, ‘our child is strange but we love him’ looks—and finally nodded “Alright,” Sei said.
“We’ll look into other schools. But you have to at least stay in this school till the end of the school year. Got it?”
“Of course” I lied smoothly
Inside, lightning sparkled across my nerves like fireworks.
Another chance.
Another school.
Another shot at finding the future UA students before of UA high
~~~~~
[New school! What did he find?]
The new school building looked promising.
Bigger.
Louder.
More students.
More quirks.
More chances
I strode through the entrance with the confidence of a man on a mission.
By lunchtime I already had intel on the layout, quirks, and major student personalities By the end of the week, I had mapped out every hallway, club, and class.
I was on a roll!
By the end of the month…
Nothing
Absolutely damn nothing!!!
No one from UA
Not a single recognizable face
Not even someone with ‘main-character energy’
I slammed my face into my desk the day the realization hit.
Another dud.
Another waste of time
My classmates stared.
I ignored them.
I was going to die of boredom!!
“Why do all these schools feel like filler episodes…” I groaned as I dragged myself through yet another bland hallway, my observation field barely keeping me awake Everyone was so…
normal
Unimpressive
Un-UA-like
I wanted excitement.
I wanted talent.
I wanted future top-ten heroes and unhinged classmates for my entertainment Instead, I got:
A kid who could make his sweat spicy [how do you know?]
A girl whose hair turned into ribbons
A boy who sneezed confetti
I considered crying
Just a little
Sighing dramatically, I leaned against the back of my chair, staring at the ceiling lights humming a familiar song with electricity unconsciously dancing along Alright…two schools down.
Lots of ground left to cover
The boredom was suffocating, but I wasn’t done yet I refused to walk into UA blind when I could change the future in advance.
There were still so many schools out there
The others had to be hiding somewhere
Even if I had to transfer again
…again [😭]
~~~~~~~
Months slipped by again.
Snow started piling on rooftops, on sidewalks, and on my motivation.
School became even more boring—if that was somehow possible.
Even the kids with weird quirks were quieter in winter.
Every day felt the same.
Wake up
School
Fight to stay awake
Go home
Train so hard my quirk buzzed under my skin like a natural hand warmer But then I realized something and it started bugging me.
I focused entirely on strengthening my power and body that I completely forgot about something.
My hand to hand skills
They were trash!
I mean I know a few moves from the little months I trained to get stronger back then.
Sure, my observation field had improved, and I’d gotten stronger physically, but I kept imagining scenarios where I couldn’t use my quirk.
Like the Bakugo incident—proving a point with only my fists.
And if I wanted to survive UA-level insanity in the future, I needed more than lightning.
I needed actual fighting skills!
~~~~~~
“Mom, Dad, I want to take a martial arts class.”
Hikari blinked.
“Denki, it’s snowing.”
“Perfect training weather,” I said with complete seriousness.
Sei slowly shook his head.
“You’re… really committed to this, huh?”
“Of course! If I want to become a strong pro hero in the future I’ll need more than just my quirk to keep me safe!” I said They exchanged the ‘we can’t stop him, can we?” Look and eventually agreed.
At the same time they both thought
(Our kid is strange but we’re proud of him all the same)
A few days later I was signed up and headed to the dojo.
The dojo was warm compared to the icy streets outside.
Wooden floors, clean mats, the faint scent of sweat lingered in the air.
Students lined up in neat rows while an older instructor corrected stances calmly.
And among them a kid with sandy blond hair, focused eyes, and— a tail.
Long, pale, and moving with the same subtle awareness as an arm.
My brain short-circuited for a moment.
NO WAY—
NO.
WAY.
Ojiro Mashirao.
A genuine, bonafide future UA hero.
HE WAS HERE THE WHOLE TIME?!?
I almost did a victory dance in the entranceway.
[do it]
After bowing to the instructor and joining the beginner line, I scanned the students.
Ojiro wasn’t just good.
He was ridiculously good for our age—smooth, balanced, sharp.
His tail helped him pivot with absurd precision.
When class ended, I made my move.
I jogged up to him with my usual bright, overly-friendly confidence.
“Hey! You’re really good, my name is Denki Kaminari”
He blinked, surprised by the sudden praise, then smiled politely.
“Oh—uh, thanks. I’m Mashirao Ojiro. Are you new?”
“Just started today. You do martial arts a lot?”
“I’ve been taking classes since I was little.” His tail flicked, almost shy.
“It helps me stay balanced, since—well… you know.”
“I see” I said, nodding sagely even though I absolutely had no idea what it was like having a tail….maybe I should try one?
“And you’re awesome with it.”
Mashirao chuckled, a little embarrassed.
“You’re pretty fast, too. New students usually trip on the mats.”
“Happens when you train every day,” I said proudly.
“Wanna practice together sometime?”
He hesitated only a second before nodding.
“Sure. I’d like that.”
YES.
Score.
A genuine, fully confirmed future UA kid found before UA!
~~~~
Of course, nothing was allowed to be simple.
During cooldown stretches, Ojiro glanced outside at the falling snow and casually said “My school closes early on snow days… so I walk here most afternoons.” He tilted his head.
“What about you? You live nearby?”
My smile froze
No.
I did NOT live nearby
I lived a whole district away
Sei literally drove me here
But I couldn’t blow my cover as Totally Normal Not-Recon-Obsessed Denki Kaminari So I said the only thing that came to mind “…Sometimes I get lost.”
Mashirao blinked “…Huh?”
“Yup” I nodded confidently.
“Just wander around until I find something cool. Today I found this dojo.”
He stared.
Then laughed.
“That’s kinda reckless.”
“I prefer the term ‘adventurous'”
We walked out of the dojo side by side, snow still drifting down.
His tail swayed lightly behind him, his breath forming little clouds.
[chill no homo]
And for the first time in months…
I wasn’t bored
Not even a little
~~~~~~
Training with Ojiro became a weekly routine.
He was good, Really good.
But he wasn’t reaching his potential — the potential I knew he would one day show at UA.
Which meant…
It was time for Operation: Level Up the Tail Boy.
I didn’t plan on telling him, “Hey, I reincarnated from a world where your future is literally televised, so I know your growth curve.”
Yeah, no.
Instead, I played it cool.
Giving out side quests like it was for breakfast Mission 1: Denki’s ‘totally normal’ advice During stretches, I casually said “You know… your tail look super strong. But you mostly use it for balance, right?”
Ojiro nodded, wiping sweat from his forehead.
“That’s what the instructor teaches.”
“Well, what if you trained it like an extra arm? Building strength and endurance, using it for more then balance”
He looked at me like I’d suggested the sun was actually blue instead of yellow [I mean if it was yellow why is the snow still white? Huh? Explain that]
“…Like… grab things? With my tail?”
“Yeah! Why not?”
I pointed at the mat we use to practice on motioning for him to try and pick it up When he lifted it successfully, his eyes widened.
“That… actually works.”
I grinned.
Step one complete
Mission 2: Strength Training
Next week I brought a bag
Izuku helped put it together.
Weighted balls, resistance bands, balance tools…
all mini-versions suitable for a kid.
When I opened it, Ojiro blinked
“Why do you have all that?”
“Science project” I lied immediately.
He didn’t question it
I hung a lightweight resistance band from a pillar.
“Try tail curls.”
“Tail what?”
I showed him how
Ojiro attempted it and instantly wobbled as his tail pulled against the resistance.
A few tries later, he managed it smoothly.
“…This is harder than it looks.”
“Which means it’s making you stronger” I said, sage-like.
Tail strength training complete
Mission 3: Speed Training
Ojiro’s biggest future strength was his reflexes.
But right now?
Good, not insane
So I improvised
We knelt opposite each other on the mat, a cloth between us.
“Okay,” I said, “grab this before I do.”
“With my hands?”
“No. With your tail.”
He blinked
“Can it even move that fast?”
“Idk but we’ll find out. Ready”
We dropped into stances, I held the cloth up.
“One… two…”
He tensed
“—three!”
I flicked it up.
He sent his tail forward with all the speed he could muster like a whip aiming to grab it but I managed to pull it away His eyes flew open “My tail can move that fast!?”
“Nice reflexes!” I said, high fiving him.
“But I bet you can go even faster”
His tail started to sway proudly
Speed Training complete!
Mission 4: Better Balancing
Snow fell softly outside the dojo windows as I drew circles on the ice covered floor Ojiro raised an eyebrow “What’s this?”
“A better balancing excuse, you stay balanced in the circle. Your tail stays outside and try not to fall”
“That sounds—” He stepped, his foot slid.
His tail whipped out to catch himself but fell to the ground He looked surprised “…Oh. That could help”
“Yup. Improves pivot control and center of gravity. You’ll spin a lot smoother too”
He gave a small smile.
“You know a lot for a beginner.”
I coughed “Uh—good imagination ?”
He didn’t question it
Weeks passed
His tail strength skyrocketed
His balance improved dramatically
His reflexes?
Incredibly good
He was even starting to throw spinning kicks with the tail acting as a stabilizer During sparring, he grinned at me “You know… since I started training with you, my body feels a lot stronger”
“That’s good” I said, dodging a sweeping kick.
“You’re improving fast”
“And my tail feels… different. More natural and smoother to use”
“That’s the point”
He tilted his head
“How’d you think of all this stuff anyway?”
I froze
Then shrugged
“…It came to me in a dream?”
He paused then accepted that with an amused smile His tail flicked behind him — controlled, powerful, precise And inside, I quietly smirked UA won’t know what hit them
