Third Person POV
Reserve.
...
...
The roar of the dragons echoed through the place as Severus walked early in the morning, heading to the eastern part of the great nest.
Some dragons sensed his presence, even lifting their heads toward him after sniffing the air.
"Hello, Viredix," Severus said, touching the dragon's wing as he passed by it, which turned its neck in his direction. If it were someone else, they would certainly have trouble getting so close to this dragon, while Severus approached carrying a bucket on his shoulder.
The dragon sniffed the air and moved closer to him, and Severus touched its snout as soon as it came near, making it rub lightly, something the creature seemed to enjoy.
"I'm going to leave some food over there. Feel free to go eat or rest a little longer."
With those words, he continued on his way through the place, with some dragons awake, while others simply kept sleeping, curled within their own bodies.
Most of the dragons there were old, so they seemed much more inclined to rest.
He went to a huge container, a trough for them to eat from, at least 5 meters in diameter, as if it were a large bowl for the dragons to feed from.
He took the bucket he was carrying on his shoulder and, without needing to use his wand, made it levitate with his telekinesis.
The bucket rose about 5 meters from the ground, moving slowly, and began to tilt downward at Severus's command. When it did, various foods began to fall directly into the container, spreading out and piling up all kinds of food, since the bucket had its interior expanded.
He was in the eastern part of the great nest, where the older dragons lived, so they could not hunt like the younger ones, and were fed with all kinds of food, from meat to vegetables and greens in this pile of food that the bucket was pouring out at the moment.
Alastair produced the mixture of foods. He made it every night with the supplies he received from the Ministry, mixed everything together, and stored it for the next day.
The next day, the reserve staff split up to feed the dragons in each area. Severus was already doing something an assistant shouldn't do, but, obviously, he had more connection with the dragons, and the creatures respected him more than any other member of the reserve.
Lady Mianna was already looking for someone who could replace him, as Severus only had one more week to remain there. It had already been three weeks since he had taken over the laboratory to conduct experiments with potions. And a full month in the reserve since he arrived.
He would return to Hogwarts soon and was already adapted to his new routine.
Knowing that the dragons should eat soon, with some already approaching, perhaps to greet him or even to start feeding, he went to one of the nearby nests and entered a cave.
When he got there, he saw four eggs among the rocks, with a dragon sleeping near them — it was the female incubating them.
He brought some food for her, so she wouldn't need to leave the nest. She raised her gaze and, upon seeing him, initially kept a fierce look, but as soon as she heard his voice, she calmed down.
"Hello, Zebra." A name given because she had spotted color patterns.
He knew the name of all the dragons, even those who didn't have one. For some reason, they hadn't been given names, so he named them himself.
He had done something interesting in the last two weeks and couldn't stop thinking about it as he rubbed his hand once again on Zebra's snout. The dragon let out a low sound, almost like a cat's purr.
He then approached the eggs and touched them.
In the last week, he had begun writing about dragon patterns. He read the books by Newt Scamander and realized that some information about them was missing — something he managed to identify easily after spending an entire month working in the Reserve.
He named all the dragons and described each one of them. Even though there were nearly a hundred, he still made sure that all the information was accurate and that all of them had their records. This would help the reserve staff when he was no longer around.
He also recorded the individual habits of each dragon.
His memory was extremely powerful and, with the mental state he had been developing through the study of Occlumency, he could access a lot of information that he previously wouldn't have been able to recall in such detail. In his past life, he already possessed an extraordinary memory, but now he felt that he could access information even better, as if he had just witnessed anything in his mind.
He touched the eggs and managed to obtain multiple pieces of information. First, he could feel the living creature inside, perceive its state of health and emotional condition, even predict when it would hatch.
This brought a slight smile to his face before he turned his attention back to Zebra, who watched him without hostility as he touched her eggs.
"As I predicted. They will hatch tomorrow," Severus said.
In fact, he could even force the hatching if he wanted to, but he preferred to let it happen naturally. It would be his first experience watching dragons being born in that world.
When he spoke in High Valyrian, the dragon seemed to understand. She appeared proud and anxious.
"I will be here tomorrow. I'm sure we'll see this together. Are you excited, girl?" Severus asked.
The dragon responded with a gesture, tilting her head toward him with a small sound.
He knew it would still take at least 28 hours for the eggs to hatch.
After that, he left the nest.
As he walked with food, he turned his attention to the cave entrance. There were some birds flying. He quickly accessed their minds, managing to see through them without losing consciousness — something he had improved.
His warg ability also had a lot of room to evolve. He already knew how to split his mind, although he was not yet at the same level as in his past life. Even so, he was certain he could develop it even further — perhaps even surpass it — since he could control multiple animals at the same time. He would be able to control as many animals as in his past life within a year, perhaps.
He could do more as well… even interfere in the human mind and drive it insane. He could stun a group of people. He would have to test that—if he could simply incapacitate people in the middle of combat using his mind, he would become something far greater than a Legilimens, something the magical world had never seen.
In any case, he saw through an ordinary bird, Mianna in the far northern area, dealing with a somewhat furious dragon.
He apparated there.
As soon as he arrived, he saw the dragon roaring while she tried to calm it with her wand in hand.
"Severus, you came… please!" she said, relieved and out of breath upon seeing him, while still facing the enraged dragon.
Severus immediately felt pity for the dragon. He knew what the problem was.
"He can't feel his right leg," he said, approaching. "Dohaerās!" [Calm down!]
A single word in High Valyrian was enough for the dragon to look at him, stopping its uncontrolled roaring and staring at him.
"Zaldrīzes iksos ñuha jorrāelagon… se nyke iksos gevie." [I know… you are frustrated.]
Mianna simply watched Severus speak those strange words, as he always did. Even so, the dragon obeyed, whatever he was saying.
Severus turned his attention back to her. "His nerves are weakening. He can't feel his hind leg."
It wasn't a disease or a direct injury, but a weakening of the body. The dragon was already at the limit of its age. In recent years, it had grown sad from losing the ability to fly—its muscles and nerves were weakening more and more.
And now… it was even starting to lose the ability to walk.
It was sad. He wouldn't have more than a year or two of life left before it worsened completely.
Severus approached and touched it, checking the nerves.
"I'm going to rebuild them. At least he'll be able to move."
He said this as his hand began to glow.
As he rebuilt the nerves and muscles within the dragon's body, the creature seemed more relieved, regaining the sensation of its own skin.
Mianna watched, and for the first time saw Severus do something like that. Her eyes widened. She already knew he had some healing ability, since he had helped before, but she had never seen him do anything at that level.
She had never seen his hands glow like that.
Severus finished restoring that leg and let out a soft sigh. In a way, he trusted Mianna, so he didn't make a fuss about her having seen it.
"If I ask you not to tell anyone about this… would you do that for me?"
She just looked at him, a bit surprised, before nodding. "Yes."
"Thank you. It's good… everyone has their secrets, don't they?" he said in a friendly manner, with a slight smile.
After that, he returned to working on the dragon's other limbs. He would at least ensure that the creature could walk again. It wasn't just that leg—other parts of the body, including the wings, were also weakening.
Soon, it would lose even more functions.
Severus had already seen records of many dragons aging in this way. Some even had to be put down with the Killing Curse—even though it was an Unforgivable, it was a clean, painless method that also preserved the body for use of materials.
After that, he returned with Mianna to check the other areas, while the other team members placed food for the dragons.
He ended up separating from her, but she returned some time later. "So, did you find someone?" Severus asked, upon seeing Lady Mianna approaching him.
He was beside two hatchlings about a year old, who seemed completely at ease, being petted and already accustomed to Severus.
"There's an interview with two candidates this afternoon. If one of them passes, they'll start a few days before you return to Hogwarts. You know you could work here, don't you? But you're still in your sixth year… We could make it official. Your salary would even go up to one hundred galleons per week," she said, with a somewhat sad smile.
"Well, I appreciate the trust you have in me, Lady Mianna… but not even you would accept me dropping out of school, right?"
She ended up a bit reluctant. Losing him was difficult, but at the same time, he needed to finish his studies.
"Maybe you'll want to stay when you graduate, in two years...?" she said.
She wouldn't find anyone better to deal with the dragons than that young man, who had unique abilities—even to communicate with them. There had never been anyone like that in the wizarding world. Not to mention the information he had provided, documenting each of the dragons in the reserve.
Mianna was even thinking of giving a bonus for that contribution, since she could easily justify the amount with the funds provided by the Ministry.
"It's going to be a bit difficult. As much as I like being here… I like dealing with these beasts, but I don't see my future here," he said, while being nudged by the head of a small dragon.
Mianna couldn't help but smile at that, but at the same time felt sad about Severus's expectations for his future. He had so much talent with animals! He could be very famous just with what she had seen in the last month.
"Well, it's a shame… but you will always be welcome here. Besides, I informed a certain someone about the eggs you mentioned. He replied that he is interested in the hatching of the eggs tomorrow. I also told him about you. He was quite impressed with what I said—about a boy who can handle dragons as we've seen you do all this time."
"Really, and who would this someone be?" he raised an eyebrow.
"That's a surprise." She smiled. "Anyway, I'll leave you here. Help me with Burg later, to give him some medicine. And be prepared… we're going to receive a dragon this afternoon."
With those words, she left.
Severus stayed there for a while longer. He had already fed and taken care of some dragons, so all that remained was to monitor them, to see if they did anything out of the ordinary.
The dragons flew, fought, slept, searched for food, and sometimes sought his attention and fought over it.
During the rest of the morning, they continued feeding the dragons and then went to the cabin to have lunch with the team.
Severus took advantage of the fact that he still had about two hours to prepare some potions that Lady Mianna had requested. He went down to the basement and couldn't help but smile as he lit up the place, igniting all the candles with a simple snap of his fingers, using his control over fire.
That wasn't something difficult to perform for a wizard, but everyone had to use a wand. Severus was different—he was trying to perform as much magic as possible without it.
In the past few weeks, he had trained his telekinesis a lot. As he began working, several objects started to levitate around the place, organizing themselves while he positioned the cauldron on the main table, over the flame he was lighting with his own power.
There was a bag of his on the table. He began taking out some bottles with an expansion charm that he himself had developed over the past few weeks—enchantments he had already applied to the bag itself.
He stored everything there: his ingredients and some work items. Even so, it bothered him. He found the bag, as efficient as it was at storing much more than it should, still limited.
He wanted to develop this expansion ability even further. He wanted to create something focused on storage—and he was thinking of using rings for that, as it would be much more practical than carrying bags around. It was an idea he had a few days ago.
If he could create a storage ring that allowed him to pull and store objects inside it, it would be even better.
He had already bought some counterfeit metal rings, but still made of metal, to begin conducting experiments. His money barely stayed in his hands—he always spent it on everything he could to develop his ability. He bought several hundred Muggle books and magic-related ones in the past few weeks, as well as tools and many ingredients that he couldn't cultivate through plants.
Severus also had a large stock of dragon scales, which he could easily obtain. The dragons shed them all over the area of the great nest, and he simply used telekinesis to make them float toward him instead of picking them up one by one.
His magic was evolving significantly. He even managed to obtain illegal books after entering Knockturn Alley and some shops that sold questionable items. He found books on Occlumency—some with incorrect information, but others with content he was truly able to absorb.
As he worked, the bottles began pouring liquids into the cauldron, and the ingredients also moved on their own, all controlled by telekinesis.
He lit the flames and controlled the temperature with his thoughts alone, influencing the fire magic until it reached the ideal level. He watched the cauldron begin to bubble and distributed the ingredients at the right moment.
Gradually, the ingredients themselves floated. Severus cut them with telekinesis when necessary, crushed some to extract liquids or released seeds without wasting anything, adding everything to the cauldron with precision.
He was a potions expert. And most likely, there was no one better than him in that world, given his knowledge and experience from the other world for more than 250 years.
After adding everything he needed, he simply made the spoon stir on its own, following the correct rhythm.
While his attention was elsewhere, letting the cauldron work on its own, he picked up some rings and began working on them, creating runes.
"I'm going to try to create this storage ring."
Over the next hour, he managed to complete four rings, but none were successful. He threw them all into a corner and then burned them to destroy them, reforming the metal with telekinesis while it was still melted.
Since it was a simple metal, he simply melted it, reshaped it back into a ring, and cooled it in water, being careful not to break it. Then, he returned to the process, trying once again to create a functional ring.
At the same time, he remained attentive to the potion, leaving a part of his mind dedicated to it. He used telekinesis to stir it when necessary or to add ingredients at the exact moment.
At the end of two hours, he put everything away. He extinguished the fire and took some vials. With telekinesis, he made the liquid leave the cauldron, creating a small swirling vortex in the air in front of him, while he distributed the contents into each vial on the table with perfect precision, without losing a single drop.
"Good," he said, satisfied, carefully sealing all the vials.
He didn't even get close to the cauldron. His hair no longer looked dirty or damaged as before—nor oily. In the past few weeks, he had developed a protective spell, creating a shield-like layer that prevented the potion's vapor from affecting him. In addition, he barely needed to approach the cauldron now—he did everything through telekinesis, as if using invisible hands.
After storing all the potions, he headed outside. As he left the cabin, he found Mianna talking to a member of the Ministry.
"Ah, you're here. Hello, Lady Mianna. Here are the potions you asked for," he said, handing over the vials.
She quickly examined one of them, nodding, satisfied. "Excellent quality, as always..."
"So, this is the assistant you were talking about?" the man in the suit asked, looking at Severus with a certain interest, silently assessing him.
"Yes. Let me introduce you. This is Severus Snape. Severus, this is Mr. Alistair Greaves—head of the department of magical creatures. He oversees the records of every dragon that enters the reserve."
Severus looked at him. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Greaves," he said, extending his hand.
The man responded with a small smile.
"When Mianna told me there was a 15-year-old boy working here, I almost reprimanded her. I almost asked her to dismiss you, but she spoke so highly of you that I imagined she would have argued with me to keep you here if I had done that. But I see you even make potions for her—you must be talented as well..."
"Severus does an excellent job at the Reserve. He even surpasses me, if you want to know. And he is a potions master in the making, you can believe it," Mianna said, crossing her arms.
The man raised an eyebrow.
"She's being modest. I'm learning a lot from her and the others. Lady Mianna has taught me quite a bit," Severus replied with a smile.
Alistair liked the boy's attitude. And Mianna raised an eyebrow, clearly suspicious.
'This brat is messing with me, isn't he?' Mianna couldn't help but think.
Severus didn't miss the chance to lightly provoke her, as he had been doing over the past few weeks.
"Well, I also heard that you calmed an Auror dragon. I'm curious. Anyway, let's go. The dragon has already arrived and is waiting for us," the man said.
Mianna looked at Severus. "Come with me. If he finds out you can apparate, it might cause problems." With those words, Severus simply touched her shoulder before using his wand, and the two disappeared.
When they arrived near the great nest, they found a huge cage, with several Aurors and Ministry members observing the dragon inside it.
It was a Hebridean Black, a male dragon originally from Scotland itself, but that lived on other continents, already entering old age. It had been sent by a family from the Americas, which maintained contact with several reserves and found an opening there for this Hebridean Black.
The dragon was nervous. It roared at everyone around while moving inside the enormous cage. Everyone was preparing to be attacked as soon as the door was opened.
"Hebridean Black! We haven't had one in over 10 years. I was still new here when I took care of the last one..." Mianna couldn't help but comment, presenting the dragon to Severus with enthusiasm.
"Hey, leave this to me," Severus said, turning his gaze to Mianna, ignoring what she had just said. As much as he was interested in the dragon, he wanted to take care of its well-being first.
He saw Alistair shouting at the Aurors, preparing their wands.
"Are you sure?" she asked, a bit surprised, but she didn't seem to doubt the suggestion.
He simply nodded.
"Alright… calm the dragon."
Alistair was still giving some orders, but stopped when he saw Severus advancing alone toward the cage.
"What is he doing?!" Alistair shouted, turning back to Mianna.
"Leave it to him." Mianna simply replied to Alistair.
Severus simply walked toward the cage, with some Aurors looking at him in surprise.
"Hey, what are you doing, boy? Don't get closer!" one of them warned.
"I work here. Leave the dragon to me," Severus replied, opening a confident smile as he watched the dragon pacing back and forth, growling and even spitting flames.
"Dohaerās." [Calm down.], he said in High Valyrian.
The dragon turned toward him, surprised.
"Skorī iksan ziry?" [What is your name?], Severus asked silently, while accessing the creature's mind.
"Umbrax… good name," he murmured.
Then he began to speak with the dragon, explaining about the reserve and why it was there.
All the Aurors were surprised, slowly lowering their wands as they watched the dragon simply listen, attentive to what Severus was saying.
When he finished, he turned to the others. "You can open the door. He's ready to come out."
"Do as he said," Alistair himself ordered, still finding everything absurd.
The Aurors obeyed.
Severus stayed near the entrance, and the dragon did nothing when the door opened. It simply sniffed the air and moved slowly outside.
Severus himself guided it, while the dragon observed the nest, where other dragons were already present, curiously watching the newcomer. "Se ñuha sȳz naejot ānogar." [This is your new home.]
With that, the dragon moved forward, beating its wings and trying to fly. It was no longer as efficient, but it could still travel a few hundred meters.
Severus turned his attention back to Mianna. "I'll help him adapt to the nest and find a good place for him."
Mianna simply nodded, not taking her eyes off him, watching him grab a broom and fly directly after the dragon.
"That… is certainly not normal," Alistair commented beside Mianna, after witnessing the scene.
And it wasn't just her—everyone there was quite surprised by the way Severus handled the dragons. Alistair just let out a quiet laugh, already beginning to understand why Mianna had so much confidence in that boy.
