Severus discovered some methods of creating runes, from magical inks, the tip of the wand could also do it, and even blood was a source to create the mediums...
He read what he needed there in a subjective way, and his own blood would be the best option to create runes. Now, he needed to understand how the flow of magic worked and how it manifests...
So Severus began with the other books, reading quickly, filling them with annotations in High Valyrian as well.
He was so focused on it that he didn't even notice time passing, until he heard the sound of a key turning in the door. He closed the book and watched Mr. Wick enter.
"You spent the whole afternoon reading? Come on, Derick is already here. We open at 8, so we have 2 hours to teach you," he said.
Severus put the book away, while the man seemed satisfied, seeing that he was studying. Even without knowing what it was, he was pleased with the boy.
Severus met a young man named Derick, who also took care of the bar. He would be Severus's partner during the nights, and they would work together... Mr. Wick introduced the two and instructed Derick to help Severus with the job.
Severus quickly learned the names of the drinks, the menu, and how to handle the orders of the people who came to the counter and the requests that the bar's waitresses would bring to them. He spent the next two hours absorbing everything about how the bar operated.
He met other people, Pedro, who would be the manager of the place, Lucas and Garden, who were the two security guards, and lastly he met one of the waitresses, Vanessa, whom her boyfriend had brought to the place, while Mr. Wick was asking about the last one, someone named Jennifer, who was late.
At 8, the bar finally opened, the security guards were at the door while Pedro talked to the band that had just arrived and would play that night at the bar. Severus stayed there with Derick arranging a few more things at the bar, while people were coming in.
For the man who had already decided the future of millions of people in an entire world, becoming a man working in a modern bar in a corner of London was a somewhat different experience, as more members of the staff arrived and settled into the place.
"Who is the new blood?" A woman, perhaps 21 years old from what Severus could tell, asked as she arrived at the bar wearing a waitress uniform, she must be Jennifer.
"Severus Snape," Severus answered before anyone could speak for him, since she had asked Derick and not him, looking directly at the woman with a certain indifference. If she wanted to speak to him, she would do so directly, not through others.
She stared at him for a moment before breaking into a smile. "Look how proud he is," she said.
"I'm Jennifer. I work as a waitress here as you can imagine, so we'll be working together."
Severus simply nodded. "I know that only people who are 18 work here, because I only got in when I turned that age. And you might even have pretty eyes and be kind of cute, but I don't think you can fool everyone, you're not 18...", she said, leaning close to his ear so only he could hear.
Severus didn't care, he stepped away with a shrug and continued working, the orders started coming in, while the demand only increased as more people entered the place. He had already memorized all the drinks.
Severus could notice that London came even more alive at night, seeing through the door and window how busy the streets were, the lights almost compared to his crystals illuminating all the medieval cities of the other world.
While he did his job, with a certain ease, most people only asked for beer. Some women asked for drinks as they arrived with men.
Derick taught him a few, although on that night, the drinks were left only to him. Soon after, a rock band came in and began to play cover songs of the greatest hits from the 60s up to the mid-70s, as they were in 1975, on stage.
Severus continued his work, he didn't stop easily analyzing the musical style, which was quite different from his time. The musical instruments were much more varied, and the way people interacted with the music was different.
He saw men and women drinking, couples kissing in various corners of the bar, some even going to more hidden places.
"Well... the modern world," he murmured. If this were in his other world, it would be scandalous, unless it were in a brothel. The promiscuity there was quite high, since he doubted those people would marry each other.
In any case, he had to do his job, while he continued to observe everything around him.
He only truly finished at 3 in the morning, after the last hour was dedicated to organizing the bar and cleaning everything.
"You work well, newbie," the waitress Jennifer spoke to him again, while he was throwing out the trash in the alley, where the garbage bins were next to the bar.
"I manage," Severus replied, adjusting the trash.
"No, really, you work well. And you're professional... I saw those girls. They didn't leave the counter all night. You made some single guys pretty angry tonight...", she laughed, as she took out a pack of cigarettes and went outside to smoke, sitting on top of a trash can, letting out the smoke after a drag.
It was true that Severus, even still thin and with slightly messy hair, had improved his features. A group of girls didn't stop talking to him, as he kept making the orders. Severus took the opportunity to talk.
Not because he was interested in those young Muggle women, but because he wanted to learn more, what their lives were like... He found out they lived in the suburbs of London and came there to have fun and listen to good music. One was in college, two worked, and the last one was unemployed, looking for a job.
Indeed, some groups of men looked at Severus with a glint of anger, while the girls didn't seem to pay them any attention. Even when some tried to approach, they didn't accept any invitations to dance or join the groups for drinks, preferring to keep talking to the new friendly bartender, with beautiful eyes and a nice smile — as they kept saying.
"Mr. Wick said you slept in the back all afternoon. Do you have anywhere to stay tonight?" she asked.
"I don't know, but I'll manage," Severus said.
"If you want, there's a couch at my place," she offered with a sharp look.
Severus shook his head. "No, thank you."
"What, you're turning me down that easily? I'm being a good older sister for not wanting to see you sleep on the street... It's not like I'd try anything. At most, you'll see me walking around the house in my underwear, but I promise I won't attack you," she said with a mischievous smile.
Jon Snow would look at her in horror after hearing that, Jon Arctic would harden his gaze, but Severus? He simply shrugged, people considered things normal that wouldn't be in other places.
Certainly, the woman had a very active sex life — almost like a prostitute in his other world.
"Don't worry, I need to do a few things," Severus replied. He didn't want to be tied to anyone anyway.
"Well, suit yourself," she nodded, continuing to smoke.
Severus went inside after that and spoke with Mr. Wick, who seemed satisfied with his work. "See you tomorrow then, boy?" he asked.
"Of course," Severus nodded.
"If you want, I can leave the room for you to spend the night," he offered.
Severus shook his head. "No, don't worry. I already have a place to stay," he lied.
"Alright then, suit yourself. See you tomorrow."
Severus nodded and went to the back to get his things.
He said goodbye to the barman and the bartender, who was also already leaving. Outside, he didn't fail to notice the waitress named Vanessa, the same one whose boyfriend had brought her, and Mr. Wick in a corner of the alley next to the place. He was touching her face.
Severus noticed that. There was an affair there, he was sure. Mr. Wick was married — Severus had noticed the ring on his hand —, but that wasn't even remotely his problem, even if he found it somewhat repulsive. That was just a temporary job.
As he walked to a more secluded spot, he saw an empty park, with only the sound of a few crickets. He sat among some trees where no one would bother him...
He created a small flame with a finger, making it float in the air like a not very noticeable candle, and went back to reading his book about magical manifestation. He didn't plan to sleep that night, just to finish the book.
Thus, he spent the entire night deciphering how the way magic dissipated from the wand and into the air worked, and he already had a good idea of how to try to bypass the Ministry's tracking.
He still had the paper he picked up at the pet shop, and his plan consisted of making a direct Apparition to Scotland. Because of that, he didn't rest until he had a certain understanding of the subject to carry out a test.
He quickly began calculating which runes he would use to bypass the current system, he wanted to create a magical shield with every spell so that he wouldn't be detected, as if with each spell his wand released, a magical and invisible mist was conjured along with it.
It wouldn't be able to give away his magical signature or his location.
With that in mind, he quickly began working on it... He first made a small cut on his own hand with a knife he had taken from the pub, saying he would return it tomorrow to Derick.
Then, releasing a bit of blood and using the knife itself, he used its tip with the blood to begin carving his wand with a sequence of runes that would create the mist.
When he finished, he placed his hand over it, creating a green light. When he opened his eyes, the lines of runes inscribed on the wand were glowing in an emerald tone. The unique combination was active the moment Severus touched the wand, in another hand, the magic wouldn't work, he did this for safety.
With that, he could cast magic without the Ministry noticing — in theory.
It was already early morning, and people began to appear heading to their jobs. He was still hidden among the trees in the park after spending the entire night awake there, he pointed at one of the leaves in the park and cast a spell that made the leaf shatter.
Immediately, he waited for Aurors. He waited for ten minutes, and nothing.
Then he cast again. Waited a bit longer.
No Auror came.
He cast a third time.
That confirmed that his experiment had been a success.
"On the first try?! I'm a genius." Severus said to himself with an arrogant smile.
'Good. Now I need to learn how to Apparate,' Severus couldn't help but think about it.
He knew all the theory, and knew he would learn it that year. The only problem was that he might not have the money to register with the Ministry. Maybe Lucius could pay for him... or he could.
Severus was no longer interested in creating more debts with the Malfoys. He already wanted to get rid of the things Lucius had given him. Perhaps paying ten times more would be justifiable just to not owe anything anymore.
He took a Muggle bus with some tip money he received yesterday, which was from some girls, and went to a more remote area of London, where there was a forest in which he could do some tests.
He entered the place, he bonded with some of the forest animals to check if there were people nearby and began his attempts at Apparition.
He knew it was dangerous, he could be torn apart as he created rifts in the air, but he had full confidence that he would succeed.
He tried a few times, until he finally succeeded, teleporting about 30 meters. He landed on his feet, almost losing his balance, but he still allowed himself a smile.
"Well... this is good," Severus murmured after checking if all his limbs were still with him.
Quickly, he continued Apparating until the middle of the afternoon. He needed to eat something. He thought of one of the stalls where he had bought food the day before and teleported to a nearby alley, succeeding after visualizing the place in his mind.
He went to the place, bought food, devoured everything sitting on a bench, and then returned to the alley.
"Now I need to go to Scotland," he thought, as he tried to search his memories for a place closer to the dragon reserve.
Hogwarts was a bit far, but it was the closest place between him and the reserve. So, he decided to teleport to an area nearby, but he would have to make the rest of the journey manually, since he didn't know exactly how to get there.
He stepped out of one of Hogsmeade's alleys the next moment without anyone seeing him. He made his wand rise, floating above his hand.
"Show me the way to the dragon reserve." The wand quickly pointed in one direction. Severus nodded, looked at the farthest point he could see in that direction, and Apparated in the next moment, reappearing at the top of a hill.
And so he continued, traveling and teleporting every 200 or 300 meters — sometimes getting close to 1 km when he found a more open space.
From time to time, he checked where his wand was pointing, making sure he was on the right path.
Until, finally, he found a huge valley surrounded by mountains and forests. He could feel the magical barriers around it, protecting the place from the sight of Muggles.
"So this is it..." he murmured, satisfied.
He wouldn't need to make such a long journey of Apparating from time to time anymore. Now that he had already come this far, he could Apparate directly whenever he wanted, as well as return to London in an instant.
While observing the vast landscape, a sudden roar caught his attention. It came from somewhere within the valley. There were many rocks, so he couldn't see clearly.
Quickly, he used Apparition to climb onto some higher rocks, until he could see the other side of the valley.
There, several men wearing suits were trying to calm a huge dragon in their midst, which was completely agitated.
Severus widened his eyes.
He Apparated closer. There was a house nearby, in the middle of nowhere, and Severus could see a woman shouting. There were also Aurors there, while the dragon roared at everyone, threatening them as they backed away and tried to contain it.
Ten Aurors surrounded the dragon, which was enraged for some reason. Severus approached the woman, who clearly seemed to be the one in charge of the place. She must be Lady Mianna, as the announcement had asked him to look for her.
"Don't hurt her! Just try to contain her!"
"Easier said than done, you should help us, Lady Mianna!"
"She's usually not like this, something is wrong!" the woman said to the Aurors.
She didn't even notice Severus's presence beside her, as he observed the dragon roaring at every human surrounding it.
The dragon was not much larger than 20 meters, small compared to the dragons of his world, but it was extremely beautiful with its greenish skin, it was a Common Welsh Green... From the country of Wales on the left side of Great Britain. There should be a protection reserve there as well, just like here in Scotland...
Severus also knew that there were about ten species of dragons registered in that world and would love to meet them. Just seeing that dragon had already filled his heart with a certain joy.
He already understood why the dragon was so troubled that day...
"Excuse me," Severus said, turning to the woman.
Lady Mianna was startled and looked at him, stunned, seeming to even forget about the enraged dragon in front of her as she observed the young man who had appeared out of nowhere.
"Who are you?" she asked, narrowing her eyes as she adjusted her glasses, staring at Severus. She was certainly around thirty years old and could only see a child in front of her, appearing out of nowhere there...
"My name is Severus Snape. I'm here for the position you announced in Diagon Alley. You must be Lady Mianna, right?" he asked with a small friendly smile.
