Chapter 09 – Dealing with a Dragon.

HP – Jon Arctic as Severus Snape!

[Chapter Size: 2900 Words.]

Third Person POV

"I can help that dragon."

his eyes suddenly shifted away from him and returned to the dragon, which was being restrained by aurors, with spells constantly raining down on it.

The woman, who was still looking at Severus with a grimace after he declared his interest in the job position, blinked a few times before looking at him differently.

"You must be joking! What are you doing here? A job when you're a minor!? What year are you in? What school do you attend?" she demanded immediately.

But soon a roar caught her attention, and she turned her gaze back to the dragon.

"I don't know how you got here, child, but don't move from there." she said, pointing a finger at him before running toward where the dragon was roaring.

The dragon looked at everyone around it, advancing, almost biting them as they tried to paralyze it with magic. But the dragon was certainly resistant, and everything depended greatly on the wizard's power.

Severus couldn't help but think as he saw the paralysis spells fail. The same could even be said of a killing curse. You might be able to cast it, but there is no guarantee you can kill every type of living being. If you don't have enough power for it, it will fail.

It generally works well from human against human, but not every wizard walking around freely out there could kill dragons with just one attack.

"Stop this, please!" she said to the dragon, getting close to it.

The dragon looked at her, growling. Its tail struck an auror, who fell unconscious, while others immediately switched from paralyzing spells to something more serious, attacking with even harsher blows, leaving the female dragon even more enraged.

"She's going to breathe fire!" Severus shouted, already noticing the movement. He could feel the burning in the dragon's throat beginning to grow. And the anger the dragon was feeling at that moment—she was blinded by the pain in her mouth and the attacks from the offensive spells.

The ministry agents seemed to have heard Severus, because in the next moment they all prepared themselves, while she released a burst of flames toward the aurors, who created shields and didn't push too hard since the flames were only a warning; otherwise, their shields would have shattered like glass. A dragon's flames were not something wizards could defend against easily.

But Lady Mianna was in trouble when the flames simply advanced toward her. She was without a wand, her eyes widening as she saw the red blaze coming toward her—even if not much, she would face at least second-degree burns.

A hand grabbed her shoulder. Severus appeared beside her in an instant and disappeared with her in an apparition from there, before the flames could reach them.

She fell to the ground, her backside cushioning the fall, finding herself looking up at Severus standing and looking at her.

"Let me handle her." he only cast a glance before turning back to the dragon, which was even more enraged than ever.

Severus took his wand. He did not activate the runes that concealed his magic, since with aurors there, they would clearly know whether he was being tracked or not. It was better to receive a warning from the Ministry with aurors as witnesses than for them to start looking at him strangely upon seeing that no signal had been triggered for underage magic.

Without thinking much, with a movement of his wand, he simply made a cold front advance across the terrain and extinguish all the flames, freezing them until they were completely put out.

"Ministry aurors, stop! Stop casting attacks!" he ordered the aurors as he approached.

"I will take care of this dragon!" he demanded, with a commanding voice of someone used to leading tens of thousands of people, which made everyone look, stunned, at the boy walking toward the dragon. Instinctively, they lowered their wands upon hearing this, even without knowing why they were obeying a child.

"What are you doing? This is dangerous, boy!" Lady Mianna shouted from a distance.

She was still in shock. The boy had saved her and now was walking toward the dragon that roared furiously.

The dragon looked at Severus in the next moment and roared with all its strength, beginning to gather flames, tilting its head upward before releasing them to drive him away.

"Rytsas, māzigon!" [Calm down!], he said in High Valyrian.

The dragon blinked a few times, surprised, and everyone saw that without understanding anything as well, because the dragon was reacting to those strange words.

"Rytsas. Kostōba iksos nyke ābrar ñuha dāez." [Calm down. Let me see your problem], Severus spoke again, but more gently.

The dragon began to calm down little by little, lowering its head and staring at him, as if it were also studying him.

Lady Mianna stood up and looked in surprise. Whatever that boy was saying, she had never heard that language or those words, but somehow it was working on the dragon.

'I know your pain. Let me help you. I can heal you, if you allow me. No one here will be able to do that, and they will probably make you faint to find out what the problem is. And I am sure you will not like that. So, let me do it while you are conscious...', Severus spoke, entering directly into the dragon's mind with his Warg abilities, creating a quick connection with her, while his words resonated with the care of someone who wanted to help her.

The dragon was no longer as enraged as before.

Severus approached and, under the gaze of everyone who was still surprised, extended his hand.

The dragon watched him for a while, as if still measuring his words, until it leaned slightly forward, while the palm of his hand touched its snout, its breath somewhat burning, before letting out a small sound, as if it was enjoying the touch.

Lady Mianna watched with her mouth agape. She had never seen anyone do such a thing. And she had been dealing with dragons for more than ten years in that reserve, in addition to having contacts with dragon reserves all over the world. Certainly, no one had ever spoken about something like this.

A human could never simply approach dragons like that, and they certainly did not like it...

But Severus did not care about that at all.

He moved to the side of her snout and began to stroke above the giant mouth, touching her scales, while the dragon watched him with a single right eye.

"Skorī dārilaros iksos." [It will be alright], he said in High Valyrian. "Rȳbagon syt ao." [Now open your mouth.]

Severus gave an order, connecting to the dragon's mind. She obeyed, opening her mouth for him.

Some thought he would be devoured immediately, but they soon realized that she did not close her mouth or try to attack him, keeping it open while Severus carefully leaned inside, passing by the teeth, checking something in the upper part of the jaw.

"Here it is. One of the teeth is corroded and rotten. She is suffering from it." Severus saw it clearly.

"Now I am going to remove your tooth. You will feel some pain, but keep your mouth open so I can stop the bleeding and heal it."

"Rȳbagon nyke gaomagon ziry īlva syt. Ao tubī tolī gīmigon rūsīr, se ñuha iā syt rȳbagon syt naejot mazōr hen naejot kesīr iā." [Now I am going to remove your tooth. You will feel some pain, but keep your mouth open so I can stop the bleeding and heal it.]

He gave his command, while the dragon — who was a young female, as Severus could tell — obeyed, seeming to trust him.

He pointed his wand at the tooth, as if he were grasping it with an invisible force. He did not know any spell for such a thing, but he thought carefully about what Olivaras had said about spells and magic created through will... He felt his magical force connecting to the tooth before pulling it.

The tooth came out quickly, with blood spurting everywhere. Severus immediately saw her reaction, but remained calm. He touched the injured area, creating a green light that began to heal the hole left by the extracted tooth; no one could see much of the healing done with his hand without a wand.

It took a few seconds, but finally the bleeding stopped.

Severus had a huge tooth beside him, covered in blood, but he did not care. He only wiped his face and stepped back a little.

The dragon even seemed a bit surprised. She moved her own jaw, as if testing whether the pain remained—and it had truly ceased.

'Your tooth was rotting, but we were lucky it did not affect the others. You will be fine, big girl.' he said, going back to stroking the giant dragon.

'And do you have a name, girl?' Severus asked, running his hand along her snout. 'They call you Belarus… I see,' Severus said.

The female seemed calmer now. 'Well, I think it is best if you return to your nest. I will sort a few things out and try to get a job. Maybe I will stay around here and we can be friends… But you will have to leave now. They are certainly still afraid of you, Belarus,' Severus murmured close to her snout.

The dragon blinked and nodded.

Its wings spread, and it simply took flight. Everyone watched in silence, looking at the boy and the dragon, wondering what had just happened. They had not heard the final conversation between Severus and the dragon, so they were somewhat confused.

'I hope to see you again, Belarus. You are the first dragon I have seen in this world...' he said to her through his mind, and she roared in the sky in response.

The Severus Snape from before had certainly never seen a dragon, and he was glad he managed to see one just two days after his memories returned.

Severus turned his attention to his still blood-covered body and looked at the place with burn marks on the vegetation around.

The first thing he noticed were the aurors, who looked at each other and then at him, not knowing what to do.

Lady Mianna approached slowly, her gaze fixed on him, as if she were studying him.

"How did you do that?" she asked, suspicious.

Even the aurors approached. They had been dealing with the dragon for more than half an hour, ever since it had become enraged, to the point that Mianna had called the Ministry to ask for help.

"She just had a problem with a tooth, and that was torturing her. I just knew what to do, here is Belarus's rotten tooth," Severus said, shrugging.

"How did you know that…? Besides, no one gets close to a dragon like that. I have never seen anyone do that," she murmured.

"Well, maybe it is just because I was born with a gift for these creatures?" Severus replied, shrugging again.

"Who are you, boy?" one of the aurors approached, asking. He kindly moved his wand and made all the blood on Severus disappear.

"Severus Snape."

"You do not seem to be of age. How old are you? What year at Hogwarts are you in?"

"I am 15 years old. I am going into my sixth year in a few weeks," he replied.

"Boy, do you know how dangerous that was?" the auror said, somewhat irritated.

"Yes, but I could see you hurting her without doing anything right, I wanted to help and managed to do it in a peaceful way..." he replied to the man.

"Well, we thank you for your help, but we still want to know why you are here," he continued.

"Actually, I am here for the job." Severus raised the pamphlet.

The aurors looked at each other. "Are you kidding? You want to work here?"

"I think I proved my worth, did I not?" Severus shot back.

They could not answer that, until Lady Mianna broke the silence.

"He is hired."

Severus looked at her, surprised. He thought he would need to insist more to get the job, but it seemed she was quite impressed with what he had done.

"But he is a minor," one of the aurors murmured.

"And he did more than we did in half an hour of trying. He did it alone. I am not saying I will put him directly handling dragons, but I certainly need an assistant. I will take care with him."

She turned to look at Severus again, studying him. She seemed to see some kind of potential in that boy. And her instincts told her she would not regret it. For someone who lived dealing with dragons, instincts were something that prevailed greatly in that place.

Severus smiled. "That is great. I appreciate the trust, Lady Mianna," he said.

She nodded, also giving him a slight smile, and turned to the aurors.

"Well, he is a minor and used magic, but that will not be a problem. Let him use it here, alright?"

"Yes, as long as he does not use it in Muggle areas, there is no problem," the auror replied, still studying Severus.

He turned to Mianna. "Well, if our work here is done, then we can leave. The boy will stay with you, right?"

"Of course, leave him with me." she said, adjusting her glasses.

"Great, I thank you again for your help, whatever it is that you just did." he said, still suspicious of Severus with the language and what he had done inside the dragon's mouth—it was very strange, but he did not insist much on it. "My name is Edgar Bones, I feel this will not be the last time we meet, Severus Snape." he said, and with those words, they began to apparate, disappearing one by one, until only Severus and her remained.

"You are quite a strange boy. What is wrong with your eyes? Why do they shine so much? Even a Muggle would notice that," she grumbled, observing Severus.

The boy wore somewhat worn Muggle clothes, had slightly oily and long hair, which did not seem to suit him very well, but he had very beautiful eyes and seemed to have a strong presence, even with his appearance and being very thin.

"Well, I cannot say that I know exactly how. But I woke up one day and they were like this." Severus said in a way that made it clear he would not say more, even if it sounded like just an excuse to avoid saying anything further.

"Tsk." She clicked her tongue, but he continued.

"But I will say this in advance: I also have a Muggle job during the night. I can work here all day, as long as you give me a room and a bed to sleep in as it was in the advertisement. I will work with you until the end of my holidays, before returning to Hogwarts." Severus said.

She seemed thoughtful. She still had more questions, and he had already answered most of what she had asked earlier when responding to the aurors.

In any case, it was not a permanent job for him, much less a career here—and certainly not ideal—but if he could help her until then, maybe she could find someone better afterward. Still, she needed assistants.

"Alright, so you go to your Muggle job during the night… but how are you going to get there? I mean, how did you get here in the first place? Wait… you apparated earlier? You are 15 years old, aren't you?" she made a face, already imagining the complications.

"Well, I can apparate, yes. But I am not registered." Severus knew there was no point in lying and that it was not worth it. "And about me being at my job, it is not something to worry about. I can go and come back, and I will still not have problems with the Ministry," he said.

She seemed even more thoughtful. "Boy, you reek of secrets and problems. You are lucky the aurors know me well enough not to start asking questions about all of this… like how and why a minor would be here, or about your parents. When I said I hired you, I avoided several questions," she murmured.

Severus gave an innocent smile. "Then I thank you, Lady Mianna, for the trust. I will dedicate myself to repay it," he said.

She snorted, but nodded. "You damned flattering brat, I will keep you and your secrets aside… as long as you do not bring trouble to this place. Now come. I will show you the place," she said, starting to walk toward the house.

"By the way, why do you have a job in the Muggle world?" she turned to him.

She was the type of person who heard something but did not fully process it at the moment. Only afterward would she think better and ask the question.

"Curiosity about the Muggle world..." Severus replied.

"Curiosity… what a strange way to put it," she murmured.

They entered the house, with Severus following her.
