A ghostly face suddenly appeared on the cinema screen, and the audience cried out in alarm.
Yao Fei also let out a cry, her face filled with terror.
She glanced at Qin Hao from the corner of her eye, waiting for his reaction.
By all reason, Qin Hao should have leaned over to comfort her at a time like this.
However, Qin Hao did not do so. He merely watched the cinema screen with great interest, thoroughly enjoying himself.
He must not have noticed. She needed to make her movements a little more exaggerated.
She analyzed the situation in her heart, waiting for the next scare to arrive.
Soon, the opportunity came.
This time, she cried out and curled herself into a ball, looking extremely frightened.
Ordinarily, no man would ignore such an obvious hint.
Next, he should display his manners and courage by lending her his shoulder or chest.
But Qin Hao once again did not play by the rules.
In such a situation, he actually laughed, laughing very happily, as though he were watching a comedy rather than a horror film.
She was furious, yet could not say anything. She could hardly ask Qin Hao to come over and hug her.
She still intended to use such hints to make Qin Hao approach her on his own.
However, her next several attempts all ended in failure.
She finally understood. Qin Hao was either an experienced player in love or an unromantic blockhead.
She frowned slightly and pondered for a moment before deciding to take the initiative.
Another frightening moment arrived. She let out a scream, grabbed Qin Hao, and pressed her head tightly against his arm.
At the same time, she swiftly stabbed the ring on her hand toward Qin Hao’s leg.
Even if he were pricked here, he would not feel much.
Once he was pricked, however, he would suddenly die half an hour later.
By then, she would find an excuse to leave early. After she left, Qin Hao would have been “frightened to death” by the horror film.
This was her plan.
“Ah!”
Just when she thought everything was going smoothly, Qin Hao let out an extremely loud scream.
That cry caused every member of the audience to turn around and look at them.
Yao Fei’s heart leaped, and she hurriedly stopped her hand, complaining to him:
“Why did you scream so loudly?”
Qin Hao sighed and asked:
“I suddenly thought of a very serious problem.”
His words aroused the curiosity of many people. They all looked at Qin Hao, waiting for him to continue.
“What?” Yao Fei could only cooperate and ask.
“I suddenly realized that, in this dark cinema hall, with such a terrifying and bloody film playing, wouldn’t this be the best time to commit murder? For example, if I were to die soon, it would definitely be your doing.” Qin Hao suddenly said.
Everyone was stunned upon hearing this, and they looked at Yao Fei strangely one after another.
Yao Fei’s expression stiffened, and she hurriedly said, “What nonsense are you talking about? Why would I harm you?”
Qin Hao smiled. “I was only giving an example. You don’t have to take it seriously.”
Yao Fei glanced at him and said nothing more.
Her heart was filled with doubt. She felt that Qin Hao had seen through her motives.
But if that were truly the case, why had he not exposed her and instead cooperated with her so completely?
If their positions had been reversed, she certainly would not have given Qin Hao any opportunity, much less brought him to a cinema and given him the time and place to strike.
Regardless, this operation of hers had failed, and she no longer dared to make another move against Qin Hao.
Because once anything happened to Qin Hao, she would absolutely be unable to escape responsibility—especially with the warden showing him such unusual regard.
After weighing the matter in her heart, she decided to temporarily abandon her attempt to act against Qin Hao.
After the small interlude, the movie continued, and Yao Fei shifted her attention back to the film itself.
Once she immersed herself completely in the movie, she suddenly found the long-lost feeling of relaxation. Glancing at Qin Hao beside her, she found her state of mind unusually peaceful, and cast all her tangled thoughts to the back of her mind.
Just then, Qin Hao happened to look over at her as well.
Their gazes met in midair.
Yao Fei’s heart jolted violently. In Qin Hao’s eyes, she saw concern, familiarity, and tolerance.
As she trembled, Qin Hao gave her a gentle smile before turning his head away.
Yao Fei looked deeply at him, then once again began watching the movie attentively.
Once she became absorbed in it, time flew by. Soon, the movie came to an end.
However, just as the lights in the cinema hall came on and the audience was preparing to leave, an accident occurred.
A guard sat motionless in his seat with both eyes tightly closed, his face an unnatural grayish white.
Someone reached out to check his breathing, then cried out:
“He’s dead!”
Yao Fei’s eyes widened when she saw this. She looked at the guard, then at Qin Hao, her eyes filled with astonishment.
Could it be that when Qin Hao had spoken earlier, he had not been referring to himself, but to this man?
But how had Qin Hao known that something would happen to him?
The accidental death of a guard was no small matter. The cinema hall was immediately sealed off, and everyone who had watched the movie was kept inside and forbidden to leave.
Soon, a man entered the hall with several fully armed guards.
He went to the center of the cinema hall and said to everyone:
“To give the deceased person an explanation, please do not leave before the truth has been uncovered, and cooperate with my investigation.”
The man swept his gaze over everyone, but in the end, his eyes fell on Qin Hao.
He looked at Qin Hao and revealed a cold smile:
“A specialist will now record each of your statements. You may describe in detail everything you saw and heard related to the deceased person. I would like to remind you all to provide as much detailed information as possible. Any clue, no matter how small, could be the key person in solving the case.”
Everyone nodded repeatedly.
“Then we can begin now.”
He looked around at everyone, then finally came before Qin Hao and said with a cold smile:
“9527, I will be responsible for recording your testimony.”
Qin Hao nodded. “I will fully cooperate with Captain Li’s work.”
Indeed, the person who had arrived was Li Jun, the captain of the male guards.
Li Jun nodded at him. “Very good. I believe your testimony will be extremely useful. Come with me. We’ll record it in a separate room.”
“Captain Li…” Yao Fei hurriedly spoke, but before she could finish, Li Jun interrupted her:
“A female guard will record your testimony.”
After saying this, he turned and walked outside. A guard came before Qin Hao and looked at him menacingly.
Qin Hao followed Li Jun, but at the entrance, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and smiled at Yao Fei:
“See you later.”
Watching his smile, Yao Fei suddenly felt her heart tighten for some unknown reason.
