Ruan Mi was wheeled into the VIP ward, in a semi-conscious state due to anesthesia. She   overheard her mother-in-law’s conversation with Mu Xiubai.

“I haven’t been home for half a year, how was I supposed to know she had such a serious stomach ailment?”

Mu Xiubai’s voice was deep and weary.Full novel: I Exit a Three-Person Marriage Remarry My Best Friend’s Older Brother and Fall Madly in Love — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“You have the nerve to say that? If you hadn’t recklessly brought her to that place, would Ruan Mi have suffered a heart attack, vomited blood, and fainted?

I don’t care how much you like Zhou Mei, Mrs. Mu can only be Ruan Mi.”

“Zhou Mei is already pregnant with my child. The child absolutely cannot be born as an illegitimate child. If she wants to continue being Mrs. Mu, she must accept this child.”

Mu Xiubai’s eyes were cold and deep. Since Ruan Mi already knew, it was time to make things clear.

“You’re confused. The Mu Group still needs to establish itself in the capital. Ruan Mi is, after all, a member of the Ruan family.

Do you think the Ruan family will ignore such humiliation? Unless you have the ability to surpass the Ruan family, then you can do whatever you want with Ruan Mi.”

Gu Lanying’s voice softened as she spoke. “Mom knows you only have Zhou Mei in your heart, and Zhou Mei is carrying my grandson.

If you want Ruan Mi to acknowledge him, you have to shut her up. Wait a little longer. After taking that medicine for another month, Ruan Mi will be completely infertile.

Then you can transfer Zhou Mei’s child to Ruan Mi’s name.

As long as you treat Ruan Mi well, she loves you so much, she will accept it gladly.”

“What did you say? Mom, what’s going on?”

Mu Xiubai asked, his voice filled with doubt.

Gu Lanying reassured him with a single sentence,

“Don’t worry about this. Just listen to me, you won’t go wrong.”

The ward fell into dead silence, followed by the soft sound of the door opening and closing.

Lying on the bed, fully awake, Ruan Mi felt as if her heart was encased in ice.

She plummeted heavily, each jump causing excruciating pain.

What a scheme! The abacus beads had landed squarely on her face.

Not only did they want to ruin her, but they also wanted her to raise someone else’s child.

She, Ruan Mi, had compromised because of love, but since all she received in return for her love was manipulation, what did she have left to care about?

Ruan Mi abruptly opened her eyes, struggling to suppress her anger.

“You’re awake? Is anything else bothering you?”

Mu Xiubai’s brows relaxed slightly upon seeing her awake, though his words were genuinely concerned, his expression utterly perfunctory.

Ruan Mi stared coldly at the ceiling, her heart bitter.

It seemed that as love vanished, her eyes grew even brighter.

She slowly sat up, looking at the man she had loved for five years. He was still so handsome, yet in her eyes, he had become utterly repulsive.

“Mu Xiubai, since your white moonlight has returned, and you two have a child, we’ll divorce you to fulfill your wishes.”

“Divorce?”

Mu Xiubai scoffed, as if he had heard something hilarious.

“Ruan Mi, are you really willing to divorce me?

You were the one who shamelessly pursued me back then.”

“Yes, I don’t deny my love for you back then, but I don’t love you anymore, so let’s get a divorce!”

Ruan Mi gripped the corner of the blanket tightly with both hands, looking at Mu Xiubai with a determined gaze.

She had loved, and she didn’t regret it, but since she had made a mistake, she would correct it.   Mu Xiubai, however, seemed indifferent.

“Ruan Mi, I just think you’re in a bad mood and throwing a tantrum. I won’t hold it against you.”

He said, one hand in his pocket, and slowly walked to the bedside, slightly bending down to meet Ruan Mi’s gaze.

“Ruan Mi, you were the one who said you were willing to be a substitute, and I also said that my heart only belongs to Mei’er. You were the one who said you didn’t mind.   Since that’s the case, then be a good Mrs. Mu. This game isn’t something you can just stop playing.”

He then casually wiped away the tears from the corner of Ruan Mi’s eyes, a wicked smile curving his lips.

“Look how heartbroken you are when I mention divorce. As long as you behave, you’ll always be Mrs. Mu.”

She straightened up and turned away, her eyes cold.

“You rest in the hospital tonight. Tomorrow night, go home and tidy up the master bedroom. Mei’er needs plenty of sunlight.

I’ll pick you up from the hospital tomorrow.

There will be many reporters. You’re smart; you should know how to make me happy.”   Without waiting for Ruan Mi’s reaction, she strode out.

The hospital room door slammed shut.   Ruan Mi’s heart sank, her fingertips digging into her palms.   This was an eager attempt to force her way in.

This was calculated that she wouldn’t divorce, that she would willingly compromise.

Even at this point, she still wanted her to cooperate and save face.   How foolish!   She wiped away the last tear from the corner of her eye.

She picked up the phone and called her best friend, Bo Yuan.

Bo Yuan answered instantly, her clear and urgent voice coming through the receiver to Ruan Mi’s ears.

“Mi Bao, I’ve been calling you and you haven’t answered. I was about to call the police, you know?”

Ruan Mi’s heart warmed, and a smile appeared on her lips.

However, her words stunned Bo Yuan.

“Find me a lawyer, I want to divorce Mu Xiubai.”

“What did you say? Say it again.”

The voice on the other end of the line suddenly changed tone.

Faced with her best friend’s surprise, Ruan Mi wasn’t surprised at all, because the Ruan Mi of the past was head over heels in love with Mu Xiubai.

Let alone divorce, she would fight anyone who said a bad word about Mu Xiubai.

But if sincerity not only didn’t bring reciprocation but also brought her disaster, then Ruan Mi didn’t necessarily want this cinnabar mole in her heart.
