“Director Wang’s meaning is that he said he cannot let you take the risk.”

“Didn’t he say we were only going to investigate the situation?” Lin Xiu’s brows furrowed further.

“Yes, but if we encounter survivors, I believe Deputy Director Wang absolutely won’t stand by and do nothing!” The Night Watch Division member spoke forcefully, showing no change in tone because of Lin Xiu’s identity.Full novel: I’m a Gangster: Starting Off by Smashing an Angel with a Brick — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Boss, shouldn’t we go help Uncle Wang?” Hu Shanyue leaned toward Lin Xiu and asked in a low voice.

Lin Xiu did not answer. He kept frowning, his expression conflicted.

He weighed the pros and cons. He had never considered himself a blindly benevolent person, but Wang Zhanwu truly treated him like a nephew. He could not bring himself to abandon Wang Zhanwu and run away alone.

After hesitating, he turned to the gang members behind him. Not one of them spoke, but every gaze rested on Lin Xiu. With a single word from him, they would charge without hesitation into Biluo City, filled with demonic beasts.

“Third Brother, Kadir, you two come with me.”

“Boss, what about us?” Second Brother Xu Nuo hurried forward and grabbed Lin Xiu.

“Take the brothers and stay here.”

“Boss, it’s too dangerous!”

“Listen to me.” Lin Xiu spoke in a tone that brooked no objection.

Xu Nuo fell silent for several seconds. In the end, he released his grip but spoke firmly: “If you haven’t returned in two hours, I’ll take people into the city. Even if I’m punished according to family rules, I’ll accept it!”

Lin Xiu opened his mouth as if to speak, but said nothing. He patted the other party’s shoulder.

Lin Xiu understood Xu Nuo’s personality. Although he looked like a bookworm on the outside, he was extremely stubborn by nature and never dragged his feet when doing things. The only person in the entire gang who could probably keep him in check was Lin Xiu.

If Lin Xiu encountered danger, this fellow would go to his rescue even if it meant sacrificing everyone in the gang. Lin Xiu had no doubt about that.

As for third brother Hu Shanyue, he had grown up alongside Lin Xiu since childhood and could also be said to have been watched growing up by Wang Zhanwu. If Lin Xiu did not take him along now, the boy would definitely refuse to agree.

As for Kadir, even though she had signed a Guardian Contract with him, Lin Xiu did not consider her one of his own. Thus, he had no psychological burden about bringing her along for such a dangerous task.

“You cannot go.” The Night Watch Division member stepped forward again and blocked Lin Xiu’s path.

“Deputy Director Wang instructed us to ensure your safety!”

“Get out of the way.” Lin Xiu’s tone was calm, but his narrow eyes narrowed again.

Those familiar with Lin Xiu knew that this expression meant he was truly angry—and when Lin Xiu became angry, he killed people!

The Night Watch Division member said nothing and only shook his head.

Lin Xiu laughed from sheer fury. With a flip of his hand, a Brick appeared in his palm.

Seeing this, Kadir took a step back instinctively. She felt she had developed a stress response.

Just then, Hu Shanyue pointed into the distance and exclaimed, “Boss, look! Isn’t that Uncle Wang and the others?!”

Hearing this, everyone looked toward the direction Hu Shanyue was pointing. They could make out a group walking toward them, but the distance was too great to confirm whether they were Wang Zhanwu and the others. The group also appeared far larger than the one that had left with Wang Zhanwu.

“You stay here and keep watch. I’ll take people over to have a look,” the Night Watch Division member said to Lin Xiu.

“No need.”

After saying this, Lin Xiu turned to Xu Nuo. “Second Brother.”

Xu Nuo nodded knowingly, stepped forward, removed his gold-rimmed glasses, and narrowed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, a faint golden light was flickering within them!

“Golden Eyes!” Shock flashed through the Night Watch Division member’s eyes!

Awakeners generally fell into two types. Most Awakeners had external objects as their awakened items, such as Lin Xiu’s Brick.

For the other type of Awakener, the awakened item was the person’s own body, such as Xu Nuo’s Golden Eyes.

Golden Eyes were not exclusive to Xu Nuo. This Night Watch Division member had seen other Golden Eyes Awakeners before. It was said that powerful Golden Eyes could see a hundred miles and possessed formidable destructive power. They were the best Scouts on the battlefield!

Of course, Xu Nuo did not yet possess such powerful Abilities. With his current Strength as a Level 1 Martial Artist, he could see through the Night only within a thousand meters.

After Several seconds, the Golden light in Xu Nuo’s Pupils faded. He looked at Lin Xiu with a complicated expression and said, “Boss, it’s them. But they’re all injured.”

Lin Xiu had no more reservations. He led people toward Wang Zhanwu and the others.

When Lin Xiu approached and saw Wang Zhanwu and the others clearly, he understood why Xu Nuo looked so conflicted...

Wang Zhanwu had taken fifty Night Watch Division members with him. Fewer than ten had returned, while dozens of ordinary civilians had joined them. Every one had a deathly pale complexion and tattered clothing. They were clearly Survivors from Jingnan City.

What shocked Lin Xiu most was Wang Zhanwu. As a Third-level Martial Artist, he was covered in blood, and one of his arms had vanished!

“Uncle...”

“I’m fine.” Wang Zhanwu forced out a smile, his face pale. “Let’s go back first. We’ll talk there.”

After they returned to the encampment, Kadir walked over to Lin Xiu and said in a low voice, “I have a Healing ability. Although I can’t completely restore their injuries, I can stop the bleeding.”

“Save them.” Lin Xiu did not hesitate.

“All right.” Kadir nodded, stepped forward, and slowly spread both arms.

The next second, brilliant Golden light burst from her body, and a pair of enormous snow-white wings unfolded behind her!

“In my name, summon the light of healing and save the suffering of this world!”

At that moment, Kadir was Bathed in golden light. With her wings spread wide, she floated in midair like a true God descending into the mortal world!

As soon as her voice faded, rays of Golden light drifted down from the sky and showered Wang Zhanwu and the others. Their complexions improved considerably beneath the descending light.

Although Wang Zhanwu’s wound did not heal, it no longer continued bleeding.

Feeling his injury improve, Wang Zhanwu glanced at Kadir, a trace of doubt in his eyes.

“You’re a seraph. How do you possess a healing ability?”

Wang Zhanwu had clashed with the Seraphim Legion many times and knew the Seraphim well. Yet Kadir’s abilities exceeded his understanding.

“Seraphs don’t have Healing abilities?” Lin Xiu was slightly taken aback. He knew nothing about the subject. His school textbooks had covered some knowledge of seraphs, but he had never been much of a reader...

“Under normal circumstances, they don’t.” Xu Nuo, standing nearby, picked up the conversation. “The methods mastered by seraphs are basically all offensive techniques. That is also why they are known as the Divine Kingdom’s finest elite.”

“According to the books, those who possess Healing abilities should be angels of Healing.”
