Su Cixuan did not voice his thoughts to Bu Liuliqing.

“Old Su, will this be very troublesome?” Bu Liuliqing wasn’t worried about whether his current physical heart was intact or not; what he cared about was Old Su’s body-nourishing soul technique. He worried it might delay Old Su in taking back his half-life and half-lifetime cultivation.

“Don’t worry. Nourishing the body through the soul isn’t something that happens quickly anyway. We can search for that missing piece while simultaneously carrying out the soul nourishment.” Su Cixuan didn’t say this purely to comfort Bu Liuliqing.Full novel: I’m a Major Villain with a Backer — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

That was simply how things were; nourishing the body through the soul was never a simple matter.

The reason it was difficult was because those subjected to it almost always failed to endure the agonizing torment at the very beginning, ultimately giving up and scraping by in the world using someone else’s physical body. Even if such a life were attained, it could never bring true freedom or joy.

Therefore, although this method of body-nourishing soul cultivation existed, there had never been a single successful case. The sheer pain was something even immortals, deities, demons, and the greatest saints or wickedest sinners in the world could not withstand.

Yet it inadvertently favored Bu Liuliqing.

Because the loss of pain perception in Bu Liuliqing’s case extended directly to his soul as well.

Another exception. When it came to blocking out pain perception in the soul, even Su Cixuan himself couldn’t do it. The most wondrous and mysterious thing in the world was none other than the soul.

“Alright, as long as you have a plan in mind.”

“Naturally, I do. It’s time to go.” As Su Cixuan rose to his feet, he instinctively reached out to steady Bu Liuliqing, pausing momentarily as the movement was carried out.

Since when had he… become so warm-hearted?

However, Bu Liuliqing didn’t notice his brief pause, reaching out to rest his hand on Su Cixuan’s arm and using the leverage to stand up.

“You know, after having those runes carved, I feel my spirit is much better, and my aura smells even more pleasant.” Bu Liuliqing narcissistically raised his sleeve and gave it a sniff.

“It indeed smells pleasant.” Extremely faint, yet exceptionally elegant… You wouldn’t be able to catch this scent unless you were standing very close.

And this pleasant fragrance did not belong to this physical body; rather, it emanated from deep within Bu Liuliqing’s soul.

So… just how special was this Bu Liuliqing’s soul?

Thinking of this, Su Cixuan looked at the self-absorbed Bu Liuliqing with added intensity in his gaze, as though trying to see right through the man’s soul.

Yet he could never quite see through it.

Consequently, Su Cixuan’s stubborn streak flared up. Without Bu Liuliqing knowing, Su Cixuan would occasionally expend mental energy to examine what the state of his soul truly looked like.

“So this pleasant smell is all thanks to you, Old Su.” Bu Liuliqing didn’t think there was anything sissy about a man having a pleasant scent on him; a good smell was just a good smell, nothing to conceal.

“You’re welcome.” Su Cixuan knew Bu Liuliqing was unaware of the origin of the fragrance, and he didn’t explicitly explain it either.

Following that, Su Cixuan hoisted… no, wrapped his arm around Bu Liuliqing’s waist, lifting him up for a flight across the skies.

Throughout the entire journey, Bu Liuliqing kept his eyes tightly closed.

He was just a mortal after all; it was completely normal for him to fear heights when regaining consciousness.

Being whisked up into the clouds without warning, with nothing shielding them from the open air, would naturally trigger his instinctive fear. There was no shame in it at least he hadn’t peed his pants.

When he caught sight of the familiar scenery, he knew they had returned to the Wuchen Palace.

Bu Liuliqing didn’t bother inquiring what made their previous location so special within the Dutian Realm. No matter how special it was, it had nothing to do with him why waste energy caring about it?

As he continued walking back alongside Su Cixuan,

“Exalted One,” a figure materialized directly in front of them.

“What is it?” Su Cixuan asked. Without good reason, nobody would seek him out this quickly upon sensing his return.

“The Dragon Lord has been looking for you for days,” the attendant reported truthfully.

“Understood. Where is he now?” Su Cixuan’s reaction remained entirely calm.

“In the Fanyun Pavilion.”

“Mm.” That was Su Cixuan for you aloof and majestic.

After the attendant withdrew, Bu Liuliqing tossed out a question.

“Old Su, how long did we stay in that place?”

“Three months.” Su Cixuan provided the figure.

“I actually didn’t starve to death.” His focus was always skewed in the strangest directions.

“There were spiritual fruits; naturally, you wouldn’t starve to death.” Su Cixuan glanced sideways at Bu Liuliqing before giving his reply.

“Oh…” Bu Liuliqing indicated that he understood, then strode past Su Cixuan to take the lead.

“Where are you going?” Just as they passed each other, he was grabbed by the back of his collar by Su Cixuan.

“Going back, obviously!” Bu Liuliqing felt quite aggrieved about Old Su’s habit of grabbing the back of his collar. He had protested numerous times, but Old Su turned a deaf ear and refused to mend his ways.

Old Su had a guest, didn’t he? And it wasn’t his guest.

“Come with me.” Su Cixuan dragged Bu Liuliqing along by the collar as he walked forward.

“Wait, wait, wait! You’re meeting a guest, what am I going there for?” The Dragon Lord! Just the title sounded like an immensely powerful heavyweight, so why should he go? To act as background scenery? Walking into that kind of scenario felt destined for awkwardness.

“Aren’t you worried I might be in danger?” That was Su Cixuan’s reply.

“Could it be that the Dragon Lord is your… enemy?” Bu Liuliqing finally stopped struggling, looking at Su Cixuan with clear, worried concern in his eyes.

Su Cixuan remained silent, keeping his expression neutral.

Yet from an angle Bu Liuliqing couldn’t see, the corners of Su Cixuan’s mouth curved upward slightly. Seeing Bu Liuliqing display such concern for him, he seemed to find it quite pleasing.

As for whether there was an enemy…

He would just let this misunderstanding continue for now.

He trusted Longze wouldn’t mind.
