“Please tell me you’re joking right now.” Rex stared at Kevin who was standing next to Eve.
After returning, He called Eve and asked if he could stay at their HQ for the time being, but she told him she needed to ask the other members of her team first, so now they were here.
” What?
He needs a place to stay, Can’t he just crash here for a while.” Eve said.
” What happened to his place?” Rex said.
” Did you even think of asking him that first.”
” I sold my house because the GDA asked me to do so.” Kevin spoke up, looking helpless.
His words caused all their heads to turn to him, clearly they were all stunned.
” Do you think we’re stupid or something.” Rex laughed.
” You expect us to believe you’re from the GDA.”
” Wait, do you really work for the GDA?” Kate asked.
” Don’t tell me you’re buying into his nonsense.” Rex said.
” We’ve been heroes for far longer than he has, he’s barely been known for a week, what makes you think he’d be in contact with the GDA?”
” I don’t think that’s what’s important right now.” Eve said, dragging them back to the conversation at hand.
” While I do find Kevin to be a promising hero, I find it unwise to let him stay here for an extended period of time.” Robot finally spoke.
” What?
But why?” Eve stared at him in suprise.
” That’s what I’m talking about robot.” Rex said before turning to Eve.
” You’re asking why when you’re the one who brought someone we barely know into our base, this isn’t even the first time this is happening, what if he gets other ideas.”
” You can’t be serious….” Eve said, sounding annoyed by his rude remarks.
” There is a way for you to be able to stay…
That’s if you’re.”
” Willing to join Teen Team?” Kevin finished his sentence for him.
” Correct.” Robot said.
” If you joined the team, they’d be no need for you to behave like an outsider.”
” Robot, you can’t be serious right now?
Why should he join?!” Rex said, clearly unhappy.
” I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have him on the team.” Kate said.
” No one asked you Kate.” Rex gave her an annoyed look.
” So, what do you say, wanna join Teen Team.” Eve turned to Kevin and said with a light smile.
” I’m sorry…but I can’t.” Kevin shook his head.
” What?” Eve was stunned by his reply.
” But why?”
Kevin wanted to speak but recalling the promise he made earlier today, he realised it was best he wasn’t the one to reveal Omni-Mans secret to them.
Plus, now that he wanted nothing to do with the GDA, joining Teen Team, who would eventually end up working beneath them wasn’t exactly a good idea.
” I’m not exactly a team person?” He decided to lie outright.
” Hah!” Rex laughed, happy that the idiot rejected.
” Who cares, if he doesn’t want to join, then he doesn’t need to be here.”
” While I hate to say it, Rex is right.” Robot said.
” Although I’d like to ask, What did you mean earlier when you said the GDA were to blame for your housing situation.”
” I’m afraid I can’t say…” Kevin said.
” I see…” Robot said.
Eve stared at him in silence, not saying a thing.
She could tell he was lying yet couldn’t figure out why.
After all, last time they’d met, he seemed so happy to meet the team yet now…
Kevin, not wanting to say anything more, used the Omnitrix to change into heat blast.
He stared at the group for one moment, secretly feeling a bit regretful.
His main reason for coming here was in fact to get closer to them, but now that he thought about it, he realised he really hadn’t thought this true.
With no other reason to stay, he left.
As his blazing body flew threw the empty city sky, he came to realise just how limited his social circle was.
He later came down and turned back before hailing a cab to a hotel, where he booked a room.
As he sat on his bed in silence to organise his thoughts, he realised several things.
One being how naive he had been all this while.
His goal had been to live peacefully while using the watch to try and negate season ones gruesome ending to achieve it.
But now, he came to see just how far he’d been from his goal.
What could he really say he’d done besides catching common criminals and helping to take down an enhanced villain. This story is hosted at g.com.
Was this really the way to do things?
The GDA just proved to him how useless his plans for peace was, how could someone like him acquire peace when he was just kidnapped by a so called lawful organisation.
At this rate, could he really make a change in this world?
He came to realise that if he really wanted to do something about this, he needed to be on the same level as the both of them.
To make sure all their mistakes never came to pass, and to make sure he wouldn’t jeopardize his life, to do that, they both either needed to be ok the same playing field, or he needed to have a way of retaliating against them.
“I’ve already gotten something that should help me against Omni-Man…” Kevin said as he looked down at his watch.
During his journey back, he’d been messing around with the Omnitrix out of boredom, only to discover that the watch had somehow added a new alien to his roster.
Since he knew he hadn’t been around any human shaped aliens lately, it had to be what he’d been hoping for.
A Viltrumite.
Recalling the not so pleasant dinner at the Grayson Household, he realised he must’ve gotten the DNA when Nolan grabbed him.
Kevin stared at the symbol on the Omnitrix for a moment.
‘But is this actually enough?’ He knew better than to assume that simply having the body of a Viltrumite would make him equal to Nolan.
Strength wasn’t the only thing that mattered.
Nolan had decades of combat experience, while Kevin had never even thrown a punch as a Viltrumite.
Perhaps it was like comparing a martial arts master to an athlete.
But even so…
‘I shouldn’t be helpless if it comes down to it, The watch does give me the perfect genetic form of a species, though my age could be an issue in that regard.’ he thought to himself.
If things ever came down to a fight, having the strength, speed and durability of a Viltrumite could give him a fighting chance.
And if that wasn’t enough, there were still other ways he could improve his odds.
As for the GDA, he knew he didn’t really have to deal with them straight on, afterall, dealing with an organisation was more different than a head on fight.
He didn’t need the GDA to fear him.
He just needed them to understand that there would be consequences if they decided to treat him like a threat again.
All he needed was to make sure Cecil never saw him as someone who could be pushed around again, but the problem was figuring out how to make that happen without turning himself into their enemy.
For a brief moment, Kevin even considered getting Cecil fired.
But after everything he’d seen from the man, Kevin couldn’t deny that Cecil was incredibly competent.
Removing him would probably create more problems than it solved.
Letting out an exhausted sigh, he slumped on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
With things progressing like this, Kevin knew his life up till now wouldn’t be easy anymore.
[A/N: With how things went with the GDA, thought a change of plans was more fitting.]
