Lin Yutang looked up at him. “What request?”
Lu Chaosheng raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly. “Call me ‘gege.'”
Lin Yutang: “…”
“Haven’t I always been calling you that?”
Lu Chaosheng corrected her. “You’ve always called me ‘Chaosheng-gege.'”
Lin Yutang couldn’t figure out for the life of her what difference there was between the two forms of address, but to get home and put her mind at ease, she obediently called out the word.
“Gege.”
The girl’s voice was naturally soft and sweet, the final syllable lifting lightly, soft as a marshmallow soaked in honey—both light and sugary.
It struck Lu Chaosheng’s mind completely blank for an instant.
Tsk. He’d only gone and made things harder for himself again.
He rolled down the car window, letting the breeze brush against his face, and only then did he manage to calm himself down.
He buckled his seatbelt, then glanced sideways at Lin Yutang. She was chatting on WeChat, probably checking on how things were at home.
Lu Chaosheng leaned down, his entire body tilting over, one arm braced against the seatback behind her while the other reached across in front of her. An overwhelming wave of aggressive masculine presence flooded over her.
Lin Yutang was startled.
“You—what are you doing?”
“Helping you buckle your seatbelt.” Lu Chaosheng found it somewhat amusing. He lazily leaned in a little closer, his breath brushing against her as he spoke, making Lin Yutang’s cheeks burn.
“What else? What did you think I was going to do—force a kiss on you?”
His gaze drifted to those luscious lips, colored in just the right shade of mountain cherry pink—tender and full, like a ripe peach bursting with juice.
Soft and plush, tempting one to suck hard without restraint.
Such beautiful, glossy lips seemed made for kissing him—and perhaps for far more than that.
Lin Yutang swallowed hard and muttered under her breath, “What’s with that? I was just startled by you suddenly getting so close.”
Lu Chaosheng let out a laugh, suppressing every thought in his mind, and floored the gas pedal. The Pagani sped off down the road.
Actually, he wasn’t worried.
Because Lin Yutang’s parents would never be in any danger.
The house they were staying in at Qinhai Town belonged to his biological father as the landlord, and the apartment on the same floor was occupied by the Lu family’s bodyguards. If anything happened, they’d be the first to step in and help.
A breeze swept past Lu Chaosheng’s handsome, cool features.
There was a faint chill in the smile at the corner of his lips.
His biological father would never let anything happen to Lin Yutang’s parents. The reason he was rushing over so urgently was simply to put her mind at ease.
She stood at the doorstep for a long while, looking up from downstairs to see the warm glow of lights in the windows, and spotted her brother washing dishes by the kitchen window. Only then did Lin Yutang finally relax.
The drive back was another hour and a half.
She was so exhausted that she fell asleep in the passenger seat.
When they arrived back at the Lu residence, Lu Chaosheng stopped the car and turned his head to look at Lin Yutang, still fast asleep.
He hesitated between waking her up or simply carrying her inside.
His phone rang first.
Lu Chaosheng hung up immediately, but the caller tried again, and the ringtone sounded once more, loud enough to make Lin Yutang furrow her brows slightly in her sleep.
He immediately opened the door and got out, answering the call. Zhou Shiying’s excited voice came through the receiver.
“Holy shit! Chaosheng, I heard from Xunan that you really dropped out of Cambridge? You’re coming to Jingda with us? Is that for real? How the hell did you convince your dad to agree?”
The man’s tall, well-built frame leaned lazily against the car door. He lowered his head and casually pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips. With a click of the lighter, a faint red glow flickered between his fingers.
“Yeah, I acted first and asked for forgiveness later—rejected the Cambridge offer before telling him.”
Zhou Shiying couldn’t help but let out several exclamations of “badass, badass” on the other end of the line. After the praise, he shifted the topic: “We’re planning to throw you a welcome banquet. Xunan, Momo, and I are all in your living room right now. When are you coming back? Heading to Jingyue Clubhouse later?”
“No time. You guys go ahead.”
Zhou Shiying was baffled. “What could you possibly have to do?”
Lu Chaosheng’s voice was languid and indifferent: “Staying home to take care of my little sister.”
“Huh? Since when do you have a little sister?” Zhou Shiying was even more confused and wanted to say more, but Lu Chaosheng had already hung up.
He opened the car door and scooped Lin Yutang up directly in his arms.
The sound of the car door closing was a bit loud, and Lin Yutang was jolted awake. She rubbed her bleary eyes. “Sorry, I fell asleep.”
She suddenly realized she was being held in Lu Chaosheng’s arms and squirmed, struggling to get down. “I can walk on my own, gege. Put me down.”
“Don’t move.” Lu Chaosheng’s profile was shadowed and unreadable, a low grunt rumbling from his vibrating chest. “Move again, and gege will… you.”
A crude remark slipped out, making Lin Yutang’s face flush crimson.
How could this person be so mischievous! She even called him gege, and he could still say something like that!
She didn’t dare move.
But Lu Chaosheng didn’t move either.
After a moment, Lin Yutang couldn’t help but speak up. “Why aren’t you walking?”
Lu Chaosheng stared ahead, silent for a few seconds before speaking: “There’s a pair of twin ponytails.”
“Twin ponytails? What’s that?” Lin Yutang poked her head out from his arms, looking over curiously.
“A Guangdong double ponytail.” Lu Chaosheng’s gaze was fixed on the living creature that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
Lin Yutang was taken aback for a moment, then burst out laughing. “I thought it was something serious. Summers in Jinghai are humid and stifling—it’s perfectly normal to have these around. Brother, you’re not scared of it, are you?”
Lu Chaosheng didn’t move an inch, clicking his tongue. “It’s not fear. I just despise these filthy insects.”
“Then walk on, go ahead, step over it.” Lin Yutang saw through his real thoughts and deliberately encouraged him.
Lu Chaosheng still didn’t move.
Lin Yutang couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Brother, are you even a man? How can you be afraid of a bug?”
Lu Chaosheng withdrew his gaze, his eyes thoughtfully resting on her as he let out a low chuckle.
“Come feel for yourself, and see if I’m a man.”
Lin Yutang: “…”
Here we go again, here we go again.
This man and his endless dirty talk.
The servant quickly noticed the situation, came over to deal with the double ponytail, and had the estate manager thoroughly disinfect the entire area inside and out.
Back at the house.
A circle of people was seated in the living room—far more than just the three of them Zhou Shiying had mentioned.
A few close friends were there too.
Catching sight of an unfamiliar girl following behind Lu Chaosheng, they exchanged glances, all wearing expressions of surprise.
“What’s going on? He really has a sister?”
“What kind of sister? A sister born to Uncle Lu and Aunt Lu, or… ahem, that kind of sister?”
“I’ve never heard of the Lu family having a sister. Must be the latter kind. Damn, Lu Chaosheng, that old pervert—usually acting like a gentleman who keeps his distance from women, and now he’s straight-up bringing one home?!”
Zhou Shiying let out a whistle. “What a stunning girl! Chaosheng, is she your girlfriend?”
“No, no.” Lin Yutang awkwardly denied it, afraid Lu Chaosheng might get upset if he heard. “I’m the daughter of a friend of Uncle Lu’s. I’m staying at the Lu residence for the time being.”
Little did she know, her hasty denial and attempt to distance herself from Lu Chaosheng only made his expression turn even colder in an instant.
