“What kind of dumb question is that?” Daphne shot at him.
“I don’t want you anymore because of the same reason you called off the engagement.” She reminded.
Trevor ran his hand through his hair, nervously.
“So that’s why you’re mad?
You should know me better than anyone, Daphne.
I’ll never leave you.
Calling off the engagement was just a temporary decision.
I promise you, we’d get married next year.
I give you my word so just come back to the company.”
Daphne didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
What sort of person was he?
“Mabel is clearly the one you want.
Why don’t you just focus on her instead of pointlessly talking nonsense right now?
Aren’t you tired of using me?!”
She made to leave but he grabbed hold of her hand.
“Daphne…”
She shook off his hand and warned.
“Our relationship is over.
Anything we had is over.
I do not want to be anywhere you are.
I don’t want to see someone as despicable as you ever again.
So stop bothering me.” With that, she hurried off.
Trevor watched her walk away, not knowing what to do.
He sat on the bench, trying to think of something.
He still wanted her in his life.
There has to be a way on how he could convince her to be his mistress, right?
Feeling so agitated, he brought out a cigarette and started to smoke, finishing off five cigarettes and trying to convince himself that Daphne was just throwing a tantrum because she loved him so much.
He planned to wait until she had calmed down before approaching her again.

Trevor went to a bar to meet his friends Dante and Tristan, lamenting to them that Daphne had broken up with him and resigned from her job.
“Will she really be able to let go of you that easily?” Tristan sneered.
“That’s what I’m saying.” Trevor let out.
“She’s just being jealous that Mabel’s back.
Look, I’m like the King of women and take my advice, don’t approach her yet, give her some space, when she’s done fuming, she’d realize her place and even beg to be your mistress.”
Dante on the other hand remained silent.
He doubted that Daphne would beg for such a position.
Yes, everyone knew and saw how much she loved Trevor but there was so much a person could take.
Her self-esteem couldn’t be that bad.

The next day, after her workout, Daphne was having breakfast when Susan asked about her trip downstairs to buy something the night before.
Daphne lied, saying she had gone out for exercise, and managed to keep it from Susan.
She didn’t know how to tell her mother yet.
Her mother liked Trevor so much.
It’d break her heart.

Daphne drove to her new place of work, SG Technology.
Marco’s assistant, Riley was already waiting for her at the entrance, handing her the employment contract.
A subordinate saw on Daphne and the Assistant outside the door, and recalled what Jax had earlier said about Daphne climbing the corporate ladder by sleeping her way through the top.
She grimaced and guess that might be the truth.
*******
Later that day, Daphne returned the signed contract to Assistant Riley and took the opportunity to greet Marco.
She informed him that the Ismark Fund bid will open in two weeks, but since she was been unable to secure a meeting with CEO Dalton despite multiple attempts, the project will likely fall through.
Marco expressed satisfaction with her work over the past month, saying it didn’t matter if the project fell through, and invited her to attend the district’s fintech expo next week.
Daphne had noticed that SG was also listed on the invitation and agreed to attend with Marco without hesitation.

News about Daphne’s resignation reached Mabel.
Well, that was a bit surprising to her.
She didn’t know if she should relieved or not.
With how much praises she had heard of Daphne and how she had helped Trevor build the company, she had thought Daphne wouldn’t back down without a fight and she had actually been planning how to deal with Daphne.
She was quite surprised that she resigned.
She found it a bit suspicious.
Did Daphne have something up her sleeves?
Still not wanting to be taken by surprise; Mabel invited Kayla to dinner, feigning concern for Daphne.
“I heard you were quite close to her.
I feel so bad that she had to quit.
This is all my fault and I’m sure all the employees at the company hate because of it.”
“No…no.
It’s not your fault.
It’s not your fault at all.
You’re the one truly deserving of this position.”
Mabel smirked, internally.
She really liked Kayla.
Kayla always told her what she wanted to hear.
Also, Kayla was always very willing to do anything she tells her to.
She felt she’d have fun using her.
And since Vincent had been disturbing her for sex, she had better send Kayla to him.
She didn’t want to cheat on Trevor just yet.
Not when she didn’t know if Daphne had truly backed down.
For all she knew, Daphne could be secretly trying to dig up some dirt about her.
“Still, she’s done a lot for this company and I think it’s unfair for her to leave just like that.
Maybe you can help persuade her to come back.
Tell her that Trevor would find her a good position.”
At the end, Kayla agreed to persuade Daphne, but secretly resolved not to.
She’d just tell Mabel that she tried but Daphne refused.
She felt this was what Daphne wanted, she wanted Trevor to come running and begging for her to come back.
Kayla scoffed.
That Daphne was so full of herself and she couldn’t wait to see her wallow in pain of losing Trevor forever.

Mabel went to the top floor to find Trevor, pretending she wanted to talk to Daphne to clear things up and persuade her to return.
She deliberately put together her words to make Trevor angry.
“I know she did a lot for this company and people are saying that without her, the company would fall.
I guess that’s true so I’d meet with her.
If I have to kneel, I will.
I just want the best for this company.”
Her plan worked and Trevor instantly grew furious.
“What do they mean the company would fall just because one person quit?!
This is my hard work too.
They’re making it seem as if she own the company!
She’s just a selfish person, and quitting without a notice shows a lack of tolerance on her part.
She wants to be begged, huh?
As if.
I own this company!” Trevor thundered.
“In fact, she’s no longer needed here and I believe that you can run this company better than she ever did!”
Mabel slowly sat on his laps, rubbing his air to calm him down.
“It’s okay, babe.
You’re right.
She doesn’t need to be begged.
Maybe when she’s done being mad, she’d return to the company.”
Trevor nodded.
She’d definitely return.
This was where Daphne belonged.
In his company, working under him, at his beck and call.
