Daphne returned to her desk with the handover form.
Her sales colleagues and assistant Fay gathered around her.
Daphne stated bluntly that she was only here to process her resignation.
Her colleagues tried to dissuade her, arguing that Mabel had been parachuted in as vice president specifically to push Daphne out, that Mabel had no idea what she was doing.
They urged Daphne not to give up the achievements she had worked so hard to build.
Daphne explained that she had decided to let go of both this relationship and this job, as she was now heading to her new company to write code that afternoon.
She politely declined her colleagues’ invitation to a farewell dinner, promising to get together with them later.
A colleague mentioned that Mabel had arrived.
As Daphne was wondering if she would have to face Mabel, she was then told that Mabel had gone straight to Trevor’s office.
Fay complained that Mabel was always clinging to Trevor like a leach.
A male colleague whispered that Ximena and Pam, the highly skilled employees Daphne had previously recruited, had been fired by Trevor because they openly resented Mabel’s sudden appointment, and they’d even been blacklisted across the entire industry.
Daphne realized Trevor was more stupid than she thought.
Feeling bitter, she handed the USB drive containing the organized client data to Fay, asking her to pass it on to Mabel since she was now in charge.
Daphne took her resignation letter and quietly left TM.
Once outside the building, she felt a sense of relief she had never experienced before.
At the revolving doors downstairs, Daphne ran into Trevor’s assistant, Rex.
Rex was shocked to learn Daphne had resigned and tried to stop her, insisting Trevor hadn’t approved it.
Daphne replied that Trevor had already agreed and that she and Trevor had broken up for good, then she walked away
*******
Rex hurried upstairs to deliver coffee from Trevor’s designated café to Mabel.
He also hoped to talk to Trevor so he could set things straight with Daphne and Mabel but upon walking into his office, he found Mabel on Trevor’s laps, the two seemed to be so busy romancing each other.
Rex shook his head.
Even him had to face the truth.
Even if Daphne was the best thing that had ever happened to this company and Trevor, his boss didn’t deserve her at all.
And so he dropped the coffee and left.
*********
As the workday drew to a close, Trevor suddenly remembered that Daphne was returning to work today after her long leave.
He wondered why she hadn’t come up to his office to discuss what position he had for her now.
Was she still very upset?
Oh women.
He then decided to go downstairs himself to look for her.
Trevor searched the Sales Department, R&D Department, and conference hall but couldn’t find Daphne.
His calls to her went unanswered, and his expression darkens.
Why was she being so difficult?
Furious, he headed up to his office and asked Rex to call Daphne over through the company line, mistakenly believing she had left early.
Only then did Rex dare to tell Trevor that Daphne had already processed her resignation
Trevor stood there in disbelief for a few minutes.
“You…you said what?”
“She came by today to finalized her resignation.”
“Fin…finalized?
Who fucking approved it?!
I’m the boss here and I knew nothing about it!”
“I think she got approval from HR…”
Fists clenched, Trevor stormed off to the HR department and berated the head of department.
Lia looked completely bewildered and explained that Daphne had said she already discussed the matter with Trevor and had his approval to finalize the resignation.
Only then did Trevor realize that Daphne had processed her resignation on her own.
Trevor scoffed and assumed she was just acting out of anger and was deliberately using her resignation to get his attention, so he didn’t ask Lia to call her back.
He understood that Daphne had done a lot for this company and she couldn’t just quit.
She loved working here…with him.
Trevor asked Rex for a cigarette, smoked it, put on his trench coat, and drove to Daphne’s house to find her.
At that moment, Daphne was watching TV with her mother, Susan when a loud knock sounded on the door, startling both women.
When Daphne opened the door and saw it was Trevor, she instinctively tried to close it, but Trevor blocked the door.
“We need to talk!” He thundered.
“Daphne, who the hell is knocking like that?” Susan’s voice sounded from the living room.
Not wanting her mother to know, Daphne lied.
“The person got the wrong apartment…oh…I have to go buy milk.
I’ll be quick.” With that, she walked out and shut the door.
Glaring at Trevor, she turned and led him to the park downstairs.
“How could you do such a thing, Daphne?!
Lying to HR that I approved your resignation?
I didn’t even know about it!
Why would you do something so reckless.” Trevor shot at her.
Daphne was puzzled that Trevor didn’t know about her resignation.
“You didn’t know about it?
A month ago, I sent my resignation letter directly to you via courier.
It explained precisely that I wanted nothing to do with you or your company ever again.
You didn’t get it?”
Trevor then recalled that Rex had indeed given him a letter, which he had later lost.
What shocked him most was that Daphne had actually been the one to propose ending their relationship first.
Trevor, visibly upset, demanded.
“You want nothing to do with me?
Why?!”
