Gwen on the Hunt!
The Omnitrix Awakens!
1: Chapter 1: Marked by Dormammu!
Gwen on the Hunt!
The Omnitrix Awakens!
Marvel.
New York City.
Lying on the edge of a skyscraper roof with a foxtail grass dangling from his lips, Owen Vance rummaged through the wallet in his hands, lamenting the unfairness of fate.
“How did my transmigration turn out so messed up?” With a sigh, Owen glanced down at the Omnitrix strapped to his wrist.
Owen was originally a twenty-year-old college student watching *Ben 10* at home over the break.
Then a sudden thunderstorm struck, and a bolt of lightning blasted through the window, hitting him and the television together.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the looming figure of Dormammu!
Before his shock could register, the scene shifted, and the city before him was flooded with news broadcasts about Iron Man.
Owen realized he had transmigrated into the Marvel universe.
Along with him came the Omnitrix from *Ben 10*, resting quietly on his wrist.
What should have followed was the classic protagonist storyline: dominate the world, crush all enemies with the Omnitrix.
But after messing around with it, Owen realized…
The Omnitrix…
Was completely empty!
He couldn’t transform into a single alien hero!
“I’m so screwed…” In a world crawling with supervillains and extraterrestrial threats, he was just an ordinary mortal!
His danger level was maxed out.
Pulling all the cash out of the wallet, Owen tilted his head and glanced down at the street below.
He tossed the empty wallet over the edge.
“Oh, right.
I’m not just ordinary—I’m barely even surviving…” Standing up, Owen rolled up his sleeves and raised his arms.
On his left wrist sat the Omnitrix.
On his right wrist was a fist-sized black pentagram.
The thought that this mark came from Dormammu sent shivers down his spine.
“Other transmigrators start with gift packs loaded with rewards, but I get marked by Dormammu right off the bat?” “And for no damn reason, too!” “This isn’t just bad luck—it’s pure cruelty!” As for why Dormammu marked him, the reason was obvious.
After all these years, the Dark Dimension lord was still looking for a chance to descend upon Earth.
*Truly dedicated, makes me want to cry.* If he could transform into any alien in the Omnitrix at will, Owen wouldn’t fear Dormammu in the slightest.
Ghostfreak, for instance, with its immunity to physical and magical attacks, could easily handle the situation.
Well, thinking about it, Ghostfreak had weaknesses too—it feared sunlight.
If Dormammu exploited that, he’d still end up dead.
The best counter against Dormammu would have to be Alien X.
Facing Dormammu, Alien X would probably say: “Bro, Dormammu is literally a nobody on the side of the road.
I could beat him with both hands and feet tied behind my back.” A hellish start: zero superpowers, living under the constant threat of getting wiped out by Dormammu’s dark magic.
What could he do?
“Nothing I can do about it now.
Food comes first.” Stuffing his hands into his pockets gloomily, Owen headed toward the roof access door.
“I remember there’s a pork knuckle rice place in Chinatown that looked pretty good.” Looking upward and recalling the picture on the restaurant’s glass window, Owen couldn’t help swallowing a mouthful of saliva.
When it came to the future, Owen had never harbored grand ambitions.
If pressed, his only dream was never having to work while possessing endless money—eating good food every day, playing games, watching anime, and flirting with cute girls whenever the mood struck.
That was his ultimate life goal.
Happy or sad, a day still passes.
Eat well, drink well, and don’t dwell on things you can’t change.
Owen nodded to himself.
“Yeah, definitely grabbing an ice-cold Coke too.” Now that he had some cash, why not indulge a little?
Just as he walked toward the stairs to head down, a red figure dropped from the sky without warning, landing right on top of the rooftop stairwell structure.
The iconic costume was instantly recognizable: New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
“Wait a second…” Owen’s eyes swept over Spider-Man’s chest, catching an unmistakable detail.
“Why is Spider-Man’s chest so…
well-endowed?” Landing in a signature pose with feet together, crouched on the roof, Gwen balanced herself with one hand on the surface while holding the empty wallet Owen had just dropped in the other.
Gwen lifted her chin slightly and fixed her gaze on Owen.
Their eyes met.
Owen offered a guilty, dry laugh.
“Didn’t expect to run into you here.” He took a subconscious step back, his peripheral vision scanning the surroundings for an escape route.
Without a word, Owen knew for sure: Spider-Man was here to arrest him.
As for the reason…
Gwen gave an amused chuckle.
“Mister, sounds like you know what you did.” On a rooftop tens of stories up, she didn’t think for a second that he could escape.
Apprehending petty criminals like this was child’s play.
Pulling the foxtail grass from his mouth, Owen looked thoughtful.
“I just picked this grass in the park.
Don’t tell me picking a weed off the ground is a jailable offense?” Gwen blinked, then gritted her teeth.
“Picking grass isn’t illegal.
But alongside that grass, you also took the wallet lying right underneath it!” She held up the wallet for him to see.
It was the classic excuse: *Why are you in jail?
Oh, I just picked up a piece of rope, leaving out the cow tied to the other end!* Gwen had zero patience for shameless rascals.
Meanwhile, Owen had already backed up to the edge of the roof, with nowhere left to retreat.
Glancing back at the urban abyss behind him, Owen scratched his head and chuckled sheepishly.
“Ha…
haha.
Oh, so that was someone else’s wallet?
It was just sitting there untouched, so I thought nobody wanted it.” With a cold snort, Gwen leapt lightly across the distance and landed on the rooftop floor, advancing toward him.
Experience told her that with swindlers like this, the best approach was to skip the chatter and drag them straight to the precinct.
Gwen delivered her verdict: “I hope you have enough money for a good lawyer.
With your own money, of course.” In response, Owen promptly held out both hands.
No point fighting—surrender immediately.
On one side was Spider-Man, capable of taking a punch from Hulk.
On the other was a frail college student.
What was there to fight?
As for the consequences, Owen was already prepared.
There wasn’t even three hundred dollars in that wallet.
That wouldn’t warrant much time behind bars.
A few days in a holding cell and he’d be out.
Plenty of looters doing smash-and-grabs didn’t even get locked up, right?
And why not get a job?
He had to work before transmigration.
If he still had to work after transmigrating to the Marvel universe, what was the point of transmigrating in the first place?
Seeing Owen surrender so obediently, Gwen had no intention of making things hard on him.
She actually appreciated criminals who cooperated.
Up close, she noticed something else.
*This guy is actually pretty handsome?* A twinge of pity rose in her heart.
*Sigh.
Young people these days.
He clearly has potential—why turn to crime?* At the exact same moment, Owen’s body jerked violently, freezing in place.
He felt it clearly: the Omnitrix…
Was finally reacting!
A warm current surged from the watch on his wrist, and the silhouette of an alien hero materialized in his mind.
That was…
Wildvine?!
As Gwen reached out with her webbing to handcuff the motionless, surrendered young man, Owen moved!
