Wildvine Unlocked?
2: Chapter 2: Fighting Spider-Gwen!
Wildvine Unlocked?
Placing the wallet in Owen’s grasp as evidence, Gwen quickly wove a pair of handcuffs out of webbing.
Looking down at Owen’s outstretched hands, Gwen’s lips curled in slight disgust.
To Owen, the black pentagram was a death mark etched by Dormammu.
But to Gwen, it looked purely like a cult-style tattoo.
Theft plus a cult tattoo—Gwen couldn’t understand why a seemingly promising young man would turn out like this.
Still, it was all too common in New York.
*Crime really is getting worse,* she sighed inwardly, moving to bind his wrists.
Just as her web-covered hands were about to clasp his wrists— Suddenly!
Like lightning, Owen yanked his hands back and hid them behind his back.
“Huh?” The webbing caught nothing but air.
Gwen looked up in confusion.
Owen looked down, flashing an enthusiastic smile.
In the next fraction of a second, his body twisted like a serpent as he darted past Gwen and bolted forward.
His movement was surprisingly fast!
His agility and explosive burst were almost on par with a professional athlete.
Slipping past Gwen and sprinting toward the stairwell, Owen felt the silhouette of Wildvine in his mind glow distinctly brighter.
[Combat Experience +5%] Feeling the notification, Owen grinned widely and accelerated.
The mechanism was simple: he could unlock the alien heroes in the Omnitrix through combat.
And the reason Wildvine was the one awakened wasn’t hard to guess—Spider-Man’s abilities shared many similar traits with it.
Finally understanding how to unlock the Omnitrix, Owen was energized like he’d been injected with adrenaline, running faster than a rabbit.
Hunted by Dormammu, combat power was what he needed most!
“If I max out the combat experience through a chase, my first alien hero is mine!” With hope rekindled, Owen pushed his speed to the limit.
Behind him, Gwen froze for a split second after missing with the web-cuffs.
The sound of Owen’s running footsteps reached her ears.
A surge of humiliation from being tricked welled up in her chest.
Gwen closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and gritted her teeth.
*I should’ve known!
A shameless rascal like him would never give up without a fight!* Silently tensing her muscles and sharpening her senses, she tracked his footsteps.
She didn’t even need to turn her head to map his every movement.
Spotting an opening, Gwen bent her knees slightly and leapt backward.
Instantly, a red silhouette traced a flawless arc through the air.
Light and noiseless, Gwen landed squarely in front of Owen, blocking the roof exit.
Forced to halt, Owen glanced around in shock.
*A casual jump like that had to be at least twenty meters, right?* Feeling the absurd physical prowess of a superhero firsthand sent a jolt through him.
Gwen stepped forward lightly, mistaking his shock for terror.
Shrugging, she softened her tone deliberately.
“Now you see the gap between us?
Give up, mister.
Your only destination is the police station.” Owen nodded earnestly, pursing his lips.
“Yeah, there’s definitely a huge gap right now.” Glancing again at Gwen’s well-developed chest, he added silently: *Just wait until my Wildvine is ready, Miss Gwen.
My vines are going to send you somewhere too.* Owen wasn’t a hardcore Marvel fan, but he certainly knew that the female Spider-Man was Gwen.
Hearing his words, Gwen let out a tired sigh.
*A huge gap “right now”?
Does that mean he plans to build up his strength and come back for revenge?
Am I getting another archenemy?* If she could, Gwen genuinely wanted to lecture him on the sheer disparity between superhumans and ordinary people.
Even if he lifted weights for ten years, he probably couldn’t withstand a casual flick of her finger…
Still, now wasn’t the time for a lecture.
She needed to haul him to the precinct quickly so she could get back to her patrol.
Holding up the web-cuffs again, Gwen gave a gentle warning: “Mister, if you keep resisting, it’s going to hurt.” Owen shrugged without a word.
Stepping up to Owen again, Gwen kept her eyes locked on his, having learned her lesson.
With her combat experience, she could predict his moves based on his gaze.
“Mister, I suggest you put out your han—” Before she could finish, a dull thud echoed.
Owen drove a liver punch straight into Gwen’s abdomen.
Immediately following the strike, Owen circled around like a boxer, executing a sharp ninety-degree pivot to her flank.
Catching his movement in her peripheral vision, Gwen sighed helplessly and turned to face Owen, who was bouncing on the balls of his feet with his guard raised.
Gwen asked flatly, “Doesn’t that hurt?” Owen nodded honestly.
“It hurts like hell.” With her spider-sense, how could Gwen fail to notice his punch?
That was precisely why she hadn’t bothered to dodge.
Owen’s punch had landed flush against her flesh, but the rebound force felt like punching a solid concrete wall!
Spider-Man’s physical durability was absolutely ridiculous!
The only consolation was the prompt in his mind: [Combat Experience +8%] Gwen turned fully toward him.
Watching Owen in his boxer’s stance, she felt like a cat playing with a mouse.
Did this guy really have no concept of how strong she was?
“Mister, I didn’t want to resort to force,” Gwen said gently.
“But if you insist on pointless resistance…
I’d rather wrap this up quickly.” Owen smiled, keeping his fighting stance.
“Bring it on!
Let’s have a real one-on-one duel!” He was well aware of the chasm between an ordinary human and Spider-Man.
But he had no choice—without fighting, he couldn’t unlock Wildvine.
His combat experience was only at 13%, still far from full!
Fighting wasn’t just about brawn; it was about brains.
Owen, fully aware of this, opened his mouth to stall for time, but before words came out, a web blast flew straight at his face.
*Thwip!* Webbing enveloped his entire head, instantly blinding him.
“Wait!” Owen shouted.
“Wait a second!” Watching him claw at the webbing on his face, Gwen asked with mock concern, “Wait for what?” Even as she spoke, her hands fired off more webbing.
*Thwip!
Thwip!* Two more web shots hit him—one wrapping around his torso, the other binding his legs.
In an instant, Owen was bundled into a mummy.
All he could do was hop in place, shouting, “No fair!
Rematch!
Rematch!” The comical sight made Gwen giggle.
“This guy’s kind of cute.” Walking over, Gwen ripped the webbing away from his nose and mouth so he could breathe properly.
Looking at his face full of indignant frustration, Gwen beamed.
“Now you can be a good boy and head to the precinct.” Owen gritted his teeth in defeat.
*This woman plays dirty!
Couldn’t she let me throw two more punches?
I barely got any experience!* Grabbing the webbing at his torso, Gwen hoisted Owen up effortlessly like a piece of luggage.
At five-foot-seven, Gwen casually carrying the six-foot-two Owen made for quite a striking sight.
Looking around to get her bearings on the nearest police station, Gwen walked toward the edge of the roof.
Owen wriggled with all his might.
He had only one thought: squeeze out every drop of combat experience now, and once he got out, he’d come back for Gwen!
However, no matter how hard he tried, he could only manage to curl his body.
Gauging his range of motion, Owen straightened his body and snapped into a curl, delivering a knee strike against Gwen.
Well, it was so weak it didn’t even trigger her spider-sense.
For a superhero—or even an ordinary person—it was nothing more than a tickle.
Gwen merely glanced at him casually.
And that glance made Owen freeze.
Wait…
what?!
Wildvine was unlocked?!
Combat experience could trigger a critical hit?!
The first alien hero of the Omnitrix: Wildvine!
Successfully unlocked!
No time limits, no manual dial turning required!
With a single thought, Owen chanted inwardly: *Wildvine!*
