Doctor Octopus Creates Chaos!
5: Chapter 5: Wildvine’s Second Terrifying Ability!
Doctor Octopus Creates Chaos!
Four Arms was one of the most famous and powerful alien heroes in the universe.
Owen Vance was naturally no stranger to him.
In fact, he was Owen’s second favorite alien hero.
With Four Arms unlocked, Owen could practically beat up a little Gwen with a single punch!
However, looking around yielded nothing, leaving Owen somewhat puzzled.
Who around here could possibly trigger the unlock condition for Four Arms?
Gwen’s voice sounded, drawing Owen’s attention back.
She spoke tentatively: “Are you…
a criminal?” At this point, Gwen wanted to know where this powerful mutant stood.
Owen turned his gaze back to her, snorted, and asked in return, “If I were an irredeemable villain, do you think you’d still be breathing?” Gwen fell silent, conceding the point in her mind.
It was true.
Setting aside the fact that he was holding her right now and could kill her in an instant, there was also the matter of her real identity.
He knew who she really was, yet he hadn’t gone after the people close to her.
That alone spoke volumes.
Gwen came to a conclusion.
*He’s a thief, but not a supervillain.
Looks like he operates in a moral gray area…* Thinking of another issue, Gwen frowned and asked, “So…
Otto, you want me to find you a place to stay?” Owen admitted freely, “Mm-hmm.” He had only transmigrated here a few hours ago.
Naturally, what he needed most was a roof over his head.
That was precisely why Gwen was frowning—she had no idea what kind of place she could possibly arrange for him.
Just as Gwen was about to press him further, the loud thrumming of helicopter blades echoed in the distance.
The sound was rapidly drawing closer.
Her heart sank.
*The reporters are here,* the thought flashed through her mind.
It made sense.
The gossip-hungry reporters of New York burned with an insatiable appetite.
After the massive scene the two of them had just caused, how could they not draw attention?
On top of that, these reporters were reckless to a fault.
Even though they clearly knew the explosions had come from high in the sky, they still dared to fly right over in a helicopter.
With news crews closing in, Gwen couldn’t help but panic.
If “Otto” said anything reckless in front of the press, it might drag her loved ones into the crossfire.
Owen, meanwhile, had no desire to end up on the news either.
His gaze shifted from searching for clues about Four Arms to scouting an escape route.
He already had Dormammu hunting him down.
If he made the evening news on top of that, there was no telling how much trouble would come knocking.
Whether it was superheroes or supervillains looking for him, Owen didn’t want to deal with either.
Gwen wanted to wrap up the conversation quickly too, so she asked the crucial question: “How do I contact you, Otto?
Or are you going to keep following me?” Owen released his grip, turned around, and left her with a casual line: “I’ll contact you.” Then, he leaped straight down from the height of several hundred feet.
The sight gave Gwen another sharp jolt of surprise.
They were currently on the seventieth floor, more than two hundred meters above the ground.
Was it really fine to just jump off like that?
A second later, Gwen realized she was overthinking it.
Even she could dive down and swing away on a web-line—he certainly wouldn’t die from a drop like this.
Leaning down, Gwen picked up the blade of foxtail grass he had dropped on the ground, her face a picture of utter disbelief.
“The withered grass…
came back to life?” Gwen remembered the color of this piece of grass with absolute clarity—it had been a dead, withered yellow.
Now, however, it had turned a vibrant, tender green.
This could only be connected to Wildvine.
“He can make dead plants surge with new life…
What an incredible mutant ability…” As for where Owen’s powers came from…
Gwen’s eyes lit up.
*Could he have been bitten by some kind of plant?!* The sound of the helicopter blades grew louder and louder.
Looking toward the noise, it was indeed a news chopper.
Even from a distance, Gwen could vaguely make out the logo of *The Daily Bugle* on its hull.
“I need to go, too.” Moving back to the edge of the building, Gwen prepared her escape.
Yet in her mind, she was still thinking about the gas tank incident.
Her defeat earlier wasn’t just a matter of strength; it was also due to a lack of preparation caused by an information gap.
If she had just set him on fire, would she have lost?!
What plant isn’t afraid of fire?!
Just as Gwen was about to leap away, her peripheral vision caught a huge crowd gathering down below.
“Huh?” She leaned over and focused her eyes.
With the help of her super-sensory perception, Gwen looked down.
A ring of people was clustered together, whispering to one another.
Down there…
was a pile of green mush?
“Wait, what?” Gwen’s brain briefly stalled again.
The only thing that fit the description was Wildvine from moments ago.
So…
he had just fallen to his death…???
Gwen froze, stunned, her mind floating adrift in the wind.
This completely threw her off.
Just moments ago, Wildvine had been overwhelmingly powerful, utterly crushing her in combat.
He had made a deal with her and then taken off with effortless style—a classic move for a New York super-human.
In her wildest dreams, Gwen never expected he would…
splat himself to death?
Though it made logical sense—from over two hundred meters up, a vertical drop would be fatal to almost any super-human—wasn’t this a little…
too casual?
Such a powerful mutant, gone in such a absurd way?
Along with her pity came a slight trace of relief.
Gwen let out a long sigh of relief, the light returning to her eyes.
“At least the guy who knows my secret is gone.” Still, looking at the smashed, pulpy mess of Wildvine with green juice spilling all over the ground, Gwen couldn’t help but sigh again.
“Sigh…
but still, that was a life.” “When the ambulance gets here, they’re probably going to need a shovel…” Before the words fully left Gwen’s mouth, a wave of shocked gasps echoed from down below.
Accompanied by shouts of “Fuck!” and “What the hell?!”, the gathered crowd hurriedly backed away and scattered.
This immediately caught Gwen’s attention again.
As she observed the crowd’s reaction, Gwen’s eyebrows knitted into a tight knot, and the hairs on the back of her neck stood straight up.
She saw it.
After a moment of writhing, that pile of green mush was actually restoring itself!
In less than two seconds, Wildvine’s injuries had completely healed, leaving him good as new.
Gwen’s eyes widened in sheer astonishment, her lips parting slightly.
Naturally, Gwen was no stranger to rapid healing—she possessed a healing factor herself.
Targeted tissue repair was normal, but this speed of regeneration was completely beyond her comprehension!
If she broke a bone, she only needed a good night’s sleep to fully recover.
That level of healing factor was already immensely convenient for Gwen.
But Wildvine had just splatted to death!
He was dead!
And just seconds after dying, he could come back to life fully healed?!!
Even a good girl like Gwen couldn’t hold back a curse.
“WTF?
What kind of healing factor is that?!” Subconsciously, Gwen looked down at the tender green blade of foxtail grass in her hand.
“Besides using his body as stretching vines for attacks, he has a resurrection-level self-healing ability…” Gwen felt a chill run down her spine.
She couldn’t begin to imagine how she was supposed to defeat a monster like this.
Even setting him on fire might not be enough!
This was way too ridiculous!
……….
Down on the ground.
Seeing the countless astonished or terrified eyes fixed on him, Wildvine didn’t say a word.
He burrowed straight into the earth and vanished.
Moving at breathtaking speed, Wildvine navigated through the underground soil.
Along the way, Owen cursed in regret.
“Damn it!
I wanted to pull off a cool move by diving straight from the sky into the ground.” “Who knew the impact would be that crazy?
It flattened me into a meat pie!” “Ugh, first time trying that move…
still gotta work on the execution.” Up above, Gwen quickly realized that *The Daily Bugle* hadn’t been drawn here by her after all.
Inside the Bank of New York, Doctor Octopus was crashing through like a wild beast, causing citizens in the lobby to scream and scramble for help.
After easily taking out the security guards, Doctor Octopus arrived in front of the main vault door.
Evidently, Doctor Octopus couldn’t be bothered to use high-tech hacking methods on this thick, custom-reinforced vault door.
His mechanical arms lunged forward like steel spikes, violently striking the heavy door.
*BANG!
BANG!
BANG!* The relentless thuds echoed without pause.
After all, Doctor Octopus was a man equipped with four powerful mechanical arms!
