8 – Chapter 8

“You’re only coming back now—don’t tell me you’ve been on a date?”

The car pulled up beneath the dormitory building at the very back.Full novel: Mistook Him for the Driver, Little Did She Know He Was the Richest Man — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Both of them sat there in perfect, unspoken agreement, neither making a move. It was Cheng Lin who finally snapped out of it, hurriedly unbuckling her seatbelt. “Thanks for driving me back.”

“Mm…”

Fu Siyu’s voice was still as cold and detached as ever.

“Then drive safe on the way back…” As she said this, a thought suddenly struck her, and she leaned forward, pressing against the window.

There it was again—good thing he hadn’t started the engine yet.

“What?”

“Let’s add each other on WeChat. When you get home, send me a message so I know you’re safe.”

“No need…”

He had absolutely no interest in sharing his WeChat with an outsider. Even though this was their second meeting, she was still practically a stranger.

“Oh, come on, just let me have some peace of mind.” This was already the second time he’d helped her, and they’d only known each other for two days. Today, he could have easily ignored her situation entirely, but he’d still driven her back. She felt genuinely grateful.

“Hurry up, let’s add each other.” Even as she spoke, she’d already pulled out her phone, QR code ready on the screen.

“Just scan mine.”

Why was this person so persistent? He’d already said it wasn’t necessary, yet she kept on nagging about it.

“Uh…” He’d been about to refuse again, but looking at the earnest expression on her face—especially that youthful, innocent look—he suddenly couldn’t bring himself to say no.

Almost against his will, he actually took out his phone and scanned her QR code.

When her profile picture popped up, he pressed “Add.”

“Got it!”

Cheng Lin said cheerfully, then quickly hit “Confirm,” and just like that, the two of them became friends on WeChat.

“Could you tell me your name so I can label you?” Cheng Lin tapped on his profile picture and navigated straight to the notes field.

“Fu Siyu.” Once again, almost inexplicably, he gave her his name.

“Okay.” Cheng Lin quickly typed his name into her phone, then offered her own in return: “Cheng Lin. Thank you so much for today, really.”

“It’s almost eleven.” He reminded her instead.

“Oh!” She understood immediately, gave him a little wave goodbye, and dashed toward the dormitory entrance.

The dorms usually locked their doors at eleven. She’d originally planned to bike back and plead her case with the dorm auntie.

But she’d happened to run into him instead. Just as she stepped through the dormitory doors, she saw the dorm auntie walking out.

Seeing her sprinting in, the dorm auntie furrowed her brow instinctively.

These young girls were always like this—cutting it right down to the wire to get back to their rooms. No sense of punctuality whatsoever. Especially the ones in relationships; they’d stay out all night if they could.

“Hurry up, hurry up.” She urged with some irritation. “Honestly, you kids always have to cut it this close. If I’d locked the door, you’d be waiting for a disciplinary write-up tomorrow.”

“Okay, got it, got it.” Cheng Lin mumbled a hasty reply and scurried past the dorm auntie.

“Honestly… now you’re in a rush… slow down, a young lady running around like a gust of wind—”

The auntie muttered something else behind her.

By the time Cheng Lin got back to her room, the lights were already off.

Everyone climbed into bed, though their eyes remained glued to their phones.

When the light switched on, all attention instantly snapped to her.
