“Where did you go so late at night?”

The girl living across from her lifted the curtain and glanced at her, asking…

“I didn’t go anywhere, just got back a little late.”

“You’ve never been like this before.” The girl’s lips curled upward, immediately ready to gossip, her eyes teasing her as she asked, “Say, Cheng Lin, are you secretly dating someone? Is that why you’re back so late today? We thought you weren’t coming back at all.”

Earlier, when everyone was discussing it in the dorm, she had bet that Cheng Lin must be dating someone. Normally, Cheng Lin had the best sense of time in the whole dorm—how could she not be back by nightfall?

There was only one reason: only people who had fallen in love lost track of time.

Another girl said she must have picked up an extra part-time job outside.

Everyone had even placed a bet on it, wagering tomorrow’s lunch money.

Speaking of which, the other two suddenly perked up with interest, sitting up in bed to look down at Cheng Lin below.

At that moment, all three pairs of eyes were fixed on her, and she felt a wave of heat wash over her.

As her mouth opened to speak, everyone’s breath hitched in anticipation.

“What nonsense about dating?” Cheng Lin replied nonchalantly. “Do I have the spare time to date? I’m about to be so broke I’ll be eating dirt!”

At that one sentence, the girl across from her instantly flopped back onto her bed.

“Ah—”

She let out a sigh.

Cheng Lin closed the door and looked at her with a puzzled expression.

She nodded toward the other two girls and asked, “What’s going on?”

“What else could it be? Just now, when you went out and didn’t come back, and it was almost time for the dorm to close, we all thought you weren’t coming back, so we just made a bet.”

She said this with a smile, tilting her head toward the direction of the girl who had just flopped back down. “She lost the bet.”

“Ugh…” Cheng Lin was speechless at them. They actually bet on something involving her.

“You guys really have nothing better to do.” Cheng Lin returned to her spot, set her bag down on the desk in front of her, and walked over to grab her basin to fill it with water to wash her face, saying, “So what was the bet?”

“Well, the loser has to pay for everyone’s meals tomorrow.” Hearing this, a smile suddenly spread across Cheng Lin’s face. “Ooh, that’s not a bad bet!”

“So can I tag along and mooch off the free meal tomorrow too?”

“Of course.”

“Great, then I’ll say thanks in advance.”

Cheng Lin hadn’t expected to be so lucky today—running into him and getting a ride back, and then having her roommates treat her to a meal.

Today was her lucky day!

Just thinking about it lifted her spirits, and her movements became quicker.

She quickly tidied up, turned off the light, and climbed into her own bed.

Feeling bored, she took out her phone and happened to see the contact she’d just added: Fu Siyu.

“Fu Siyu…”

She softly murmured his name. It sounded quite nice.

Hmm… let’s take a look at his profile picture.

She tapped on the avatar to enlarge it. It was actually him—dressed in a suit with a white shirt. Though it wasn’t a full-body shot, just from the proportions, she could tell he was especially tall.

There was no expression on his face; in fact, he looked extremely serious, cold enough to freeze someone.

But she felt… he was devastatingly handsome. Whether judging by his facial features or the temperament revealed on his face, just looking at a single photo was enough to make her heart race.

As she gazed at it, her phone suddenly buzzed.
