Chapter 13

My Messy Life with Stepmom and Stepsister

Sam turned around and saw a stunning girl standing a few meters away from him. She was tall with long, brown hair and piercing hazel eyes. Her body was slim yet curvy, and she was wearing a fitted black turtleneck top paired with a leather skirt and knee-high boots.

It was the type of outfit that screamed 'sophisticated but sexy,' and it suited her perfectly.

However, what caught Sam's attention the most was her smirk. It was like she had been watching him this whole time, enjoying his impatience and disappointment.

Sam couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at her. "Excuse me? Do I know you?"

"No, you don't." The girl walked closer, her heels clicking on the floor. "But I know you. You're Sam, right? Chloe's stepbrother?"

At the mention of his name and his relation to Chloe, Sam's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Yeah, I am. And you must be her friend, I assume? The one who didn't show up on time?"

The girl chuckled, then sat down at the table Sam was occupying earlier. She crossed her legs, leaning back in her chair, looking at him with amusement.

"Oh, I've been here before you arrived, but I decided to observe you first." She gestured for him to sit back down, and Sam reluctantly did. "You see, I'm not the type to blindly meet someone just because my friend said so. I need to know what kind of person they are first."

"You mean you were watching me? Like a stalker?

"Pfft. Don't make it sound creepy. I was observing, not stalking. It's a good way to read people without any bias."

"And what did you see? Because all I did was sit here and wait for thirty minutes. And yeah, I might have looked desperate and pathetic waiting for a date who didn't show up."

"Hehe... Don't take my words to heart. Actually, I'm impressed that you're so patient and polite. If it were another guy, they would have left or made a scene right after seeing me." The girl leaned forward and placed her chin on her hand, looking at Sam intently. "So far, you passed my test, Sam."

Sam frowned at the word 'test,' feeling like he was being judged. He didn't like that. He didn't want to be with someone who evaluated people based on their behavior. It sounded superficial.

However, looking at the girl's face and her alluring figure, Sam thought she was probably used to having men chasing after her. So maybe this 'test' was necessary for her to avoid dealing with jerks.

But Sam wasn't looking for someone like that. He just wanted a normal, honest relationship. It might be too early to tell, but he was already getting a bad vibe from this girl.

"I'm not here to be tested or judged, but to meet Chloe's friend and see if we can be more than friends." Sam sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "If you're looking for someone perfect or have high standards, then I'm not the right person. I don't think I can pass any more of your tests."

"Wow, so quick to give up?" The girl laughed. "That's too bad. I was just getting interested in you."

"Interested? In what? My patience?" Sam chuckled without humor. "Listen, if you're not interested in getting to know me without testing me, then I'm out of here. I don't want to waste both of our time."

He then stood up, ready to leave.

Unexpectedly, the girl also stood up and blocked his way. "Hey, don't go. I'm sorry for making you feel uncomfortable. My name is Diana, by the way. And yes, I am Chloe's friend. She told me you were a nice guy, and so far, she was right."

Sam was a bit taken aback by her sudden change of attitude and her sincere apology. He had to admit, she was stunning up close, and her smile was captivating. But he still wasn't convinced.

"Alright, Diana. Nice to meet you. If you want to talk and get to know each other, we can do that. But please, no more testing or judging, okay? Let's just be honest with each other."

Diana nodded and extended her hand for a handshake. "Deal. I won't do it again. Let's start over. I'm Diana, and I'm interested in getting to know you better."

Sam hesitated for a second before shaking her hand. Her hand felt soft and delicate, unlike his rough ones. He couldn't help but notice the contrast, which made him wonder what her hand would feel like on his body.

But he quickly brushed away the thought. It was not the time for such fantasies. He was here to find a potential girlfriend, not a fuck buddy.

So, letting go of her hand, Sam gestured for Diana to sit down. "Okay, Diana. Why don't you tell me about yourself first?"

And so, they began to chat, talking about everything from hobbies to their views on life. Diana turned out to be more friendly and open than Sam initially thought. She wasn't just a pretty face but also smart and witty. Plus, she didn't act too arrogant or demanding like some hot girls could be.

It was a good sign, and Sam started to relax around her, even cracking some jokes.

Before he knew it, it was already time for their next lecture, yet as if by unspoken agreement, they skipped their classes and decided to spend more time together.

They went for a walk around the university, talking and laughing like they had known each other for a long time. It was nice and comfortable, and Sam was beginning to like Diana's company.

Eventually, the sun started to set, and Diana suggested going for a movie.

"I'm in the mood for a horror movie. What about you? You're not scared of ghosts, are you?" Diana asked with a smirk.

Sam shook his head. "No, I'm not scared of them. But are you sure you can handle it? You might end up hiding in my arms if it gets too scary."

"Hmph. You wish." Diana rolled her eyes but smiled playfully. "If you get too scared, you can hug me. I don't mind. I'm not a weak girl like others."

"Hehe, I'll remember that."
