“Doctor, you have a patient waiting outside… I think it’s an emergency,” a frantic voice rang into a quiet room.
She entered and placed the patient’s information on the doctor’s desk.
“Hmm,” A woman, still half asleep, hummed.
“It’s still lunch break.
Let them wait,” she murmured and turned to the side to continue sleeping.
However, the assistant wasn’t giving up that easily.
“Doctor, he is a bloody mess, and somehow, his wolf wasn’t healing him very well,” she stated nervously.
The doctor’s eyes opened, revealing bright honey-colored eyes.
“Is he dying?” She asked, still unbothered.
“You can say that,” the assistant laughed, but returned to being serious.
“You need to see him now.”
“Alright, Mary,” the doctor rolled her eyes and stretched her body.
She had fallen asleep on the chair and strained her back.
“Umm, Doctor Athissa?” Mary, the assistant, turned back with concern.
“What?
I’m already awake,” Athissa mumbled, thinking Mary would scold her again.
Mary shook her head.
“I… I think it’s one of those cases… again,” she whispered, afraid she would be heard from outside.
“Ah, cases of men getting beat up by some woman they ‘met’ huh?” Athissa chuckled, emphasizing the word ‘met’.
“I guess so… but he’s with his mate,” Mary added before leaving the room and talking to the upcoming patient.
Athissa just raised her brows and looked at the notes.
After a few minutes, a crippling man entered with a beautiful woman beside him.
“Doctor Athissa, we’re here to get my mate checked,” Nerissa stated calmly with concern laced on her face, but her eyes were gleaming with rage.
“Oh, my, have a seat,” Athissa stated, gesturing for them to sit in front of her.
“Mister Devin, tell me what your concerns are and… what happened to you?”
“…”
Athissa received no answer from the man before her.
“Devin, speak up about your condition so you can get proper treatment,” Nerissa nudged the man beside her to speak, but his head remained low.
“Hmm, well.
Upon visual inspection, you looked like you got beat up pretty badly.”
Athissa shook her head while looking at Devin’s body.
“And you got a broken arm…” she added after seeing the bandage wrapped around his arm.
Athissa stood up from her seat and went closer to Devin, who flinched when she got near.
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you.
I’ll just check if you got more broken bones around your body,” Athissa stated calmly.
A sweet smile appeared on her lips as her gloved hand started touching Devin’s body.
It took a while to finish.
“How is he, doctor?” Nerissa asked with a sympathetic voice.
“Hmm, Mister Devin here seemed to have multiple incomplete fractures on his ribs, but on his arm, specifically his radius bone seemed to be broken into two,” Athissa said when she got back to her seat and started writing notes.
“My wolf… it’s not seeing me,” Devin, for the first time, spoke.
His voice sounded like sandpaper grating against each other.
“I can sense that.
Your wolf can help heal your fractures so they don’t completely break, but somehow, it’s not responding to you.
Leading you to this wreckage,” Athissa chuckled, shaking her head again.
“Are you really a doctor?” Devin snapped, not liking that Athissa chuckled as he felt insulted with his already bruised ego.
“DEVIN!” Nerissa, with no remorse, pinched Devin’s skin on his waist and twisted it.
“Don’t be rude to the doctor!”
“AH!
O-OKAY!” Devin hissed as he moved his body away from his mate.
“I’ll have my assistant patch you up, and we’ll put a plaster cast on that arm.
Let’s hope your body will heal on its own.
Also, I’ll give you some pain medications for you to feel a bit comfortable,” Athissa stated while writing the prescription.
“That won’t be necessary,” Nerissa chimed in, smiling.
That sentence made Devin twist his head to the side in disbelief.
He wanted the medication since he was in pain similar to living in hell.
“My mate is a strong man.
I’m sure his body can handle it.” Nerissa grabbed Devin’s already bruised arm, pulling him to a hug.
Devin closed his eyes as he couldn’t say a word to plead for the prescription since he wanted to look good for his mate.
“Alright,” Athissa smiled, ripped the paper away, crumpled it, and tossed it into the nearby trash can.
“Also, can I ask why you’re in that state?
Who did this to you?”
Devin gulped, lowered his head, and said nothing.
“You know, there are multiple cases similar to yours.
I hope you can share a bit of information with me and help identify the perpetrators,” Athissa urged, cupping her hands together and placing them under her chin.
“Come on, Devin.
Speak up so they can help us seek justice,” Nerissa roughly shook Devin’s body, making his pain worse.
“Nerissa, you’re killing me,” Devin groaned as he removed himself from his mate.
He felt like he was being tortured so openly.
“Because you’re not saying anything!” Nerissa’s voice rose in rage.
She tried to hide it, but she could no longer contain her emotions.
“Oh god!
Can’t you see my condition right now?
Do you need me to talk much when I’m already close to seeing the Moon Goddess herself!” Devin shouted, clearly irritated by Nerissa’s presence.
“Ehem,” Athissa cleared her throat.
“Please take that conversation elsewhere, more private than here,” she looked straight into Devin’s eyes.
“However, I clearly want to know why you became… like this.
As a patient’s history.”
Devin sighed in defeat.
He knew he needed to talk sooner or later.
“I met a woman… in the pub last night.
She seemed lost and scared, so I tried to help her, but she ended up being crazy… Do you think she’s a witch?” He asked, eyes wide and looking for answers.
However, he disregarded some important details in his story.
*Smack*
Nerissa slapped the back of Devin’s head.
“What the fuck are you trying to help another woman?
Huh!?” She shouted angrily.
That confirmed the questions and doubts Nerissa had in mind.
“OF COURSE!
I AM A PACK WARRIOR!” Devin screamed as if it was the most obvious thing to say.
