The two of them lay in bed with their backs to each other in the night, and Shen Wanli’s mind was still echoing with Jiang Rou’s words, “You are the one who turned me into a bastard.”
Perhaps the argument today was too intense, or perhaps the past two days had been too absurd. Jiang Rou did not touch her today, only making her a meal before going out and staying out until bedtime when she finally returned to the bedroom.
Shen Wanli felt a splitting headache, and the scenes of today’s argument were still vivid in her mind.
Thinking again that they had arrived here right at the launch event, she wondered how things were being handled back at the company.
Perhaps Shen Wanli had slept too much during the day, so she found herself somewhat unable to fall asleep now.
Listening to the steady breathing beside her and smelling the unmasked tuberose pheromones, Shen Wanli actually found herself feeling somewhat accustomed and at ease. Perhaps she was truly sick in the head.
“Why are you still not asleep?”
A slightly hoarse voice suddenly came from beside her. Hearing that the person next to her was still awake, Jiang Rou finally could not help but speak up.
Perhaps because the afternoon argument had been too intense, the tone of both people remained calm at this moment, without any excessive emotional charge.
“When are you going to let me go?”
Shen Wanli finally asked the question lingering in her heart. No matter what, Jiang Rou could not keep her trapped forever, and she would eventually be found.
Hearing Shen Wanli’s question, anger welled up in Jiang Rou’s heart once again. Did Shen Wanli want to escape from her so badly, showing such impatience? “Is staying here really that unsatisfactory to you?”
Hearing Jiang Rou’s sarcastic tone, Shen Wanli also controlled herself and refrained from losing her temper, never knowing what else this madwoman might do in a fit of rage.
“Company matters are not settled yet, you cannot be so willful.”
Shen Wanli advised Jiang Rou earnestly.
Jiang Rou said with little concern, “You do not need to worry about company matters, I will handle them.”
Shen Wanli still trusted Jiang Rou’s capability. Thinking of how Jiang Rou had gone out for a while in the evening, she figured she must have gone to deal with business affairs.
“You cannot possibly lock me here for a lifetime, why will you not let me go?”
Shen Wanli asked.
Jiang Rou sneered. “Let you go? Let you go get engaged to that Han Qing?”
Jiang Rou’s words startled Shen Wanli. Because of the absurdity and indulgence of the past two days, Shen Wanli had almost forgotten about that matter. But even if she could get out now, she would no longer get engaged to Han Qing.
For one thing, since she had already experienced such things with Jiang Rou, marrying an omega like this would truly be unfair to the other person.
Moreover, through this incident, Shen Wanli suddenly realized that she actually had no feelings for Han Qing, nor could she be so irresponsible.
Without love, and knowing each other for a mere month, by what right could she take responsibility for someone else’s life?
“I will not get engaged to her.”
Shen Wanli said flatly.
“Really?”
Although Jiang Rou asked doubtfully, her voice could not mask her overwhelming surprise.
“But I will not have anything with you either.”
Shen Wanli continued. She was in a mess right now and had not figured out how to handle this relationship, nor had she made up her mind.
Before that, however, she would not have any relationship with anyone, including Jiang Rou.
Jiang Rou let out a soft laugh, her voice carrying a faint trace of anger. “Sister’s mouth is truly capable of making people angry.”
With that, regardless of whether Shen Wanli was willing or not, she reached out from behind, wrapped her arms around Shen Wanli, and bit down on that scar-covered gland once more.
Shen Wanli let out a soft cry of pain as her body began to grow warm again.
Human boundaries truly kept lowering. If it were before, Shen Wanli would have been completely unable to agree to such a thing happening. Perhaps after these past two days, Shen Wanli’s mindset had directly shifted, making her feel that lying flat like this was actually not so bad.
Yet perhaps remaining with the pride of an alpha, Shen Wanli shoved Jiang Rou away. Just when Jiang Rou expected Shen Wanli to reject her as usual, Shen Wanli instead pulled Jiang Rou into her arms and bit down hard on Jiang Rou’s gland in retaliation.
Jiang Rou let out a startled ah of pain, but she did not resist. She did not feel that being treated this way by Shen Wanli was wrong; while she desperately wanted to possess Shen Wanli, she could also accept being possessed by her.
“Do you want to come?”
Jiang Rou asked in a daze, still not quite understanding what Shen Wanli meant.
Shen Wanli had originally only wanted to bite Jiang Rou to vent her anger. After all, as an alpha, her own glands were covered in bite marks from the other party, so she naturally did not want to miss the chance to get back at Jiang Rou. Yet she was left momentarily stunned by Jiang Rou’s question.
Realizing Jiang Rou’s intent a moment later, her face flushed completely red.
“Is this going to make you hate me a little less?”
Jiang Rou asked softly, a sense of grievance still audible in her voice.
Shen Wanli sneered. “So it was just to make me stop hating you? But let me tell you, it will not.”
Jiang Rou gave a bitter laugh. “I knew it would turn out like this.”
Jiang Rou knew this would be the outcome, but she still did not care, because she knew what kind of person Shen Wanli was. She also knew she had gone too far this time, but she did not regret it.
The two of them stared eye to eye, looking at each other, neither making any further move.
Until Jiang Rou reached out, looped her arms around Shen Wanli’s neck, kissed her lips, and whispered, “Then be gentle, Sister, I am scared.”
Seeing that Jiang Rou had agreed, Shen Wanli had even less reason to refuse. She lowered her head and gently kissed Jiang Rou, kissing the person she had cherished since childhood and even fantasized about during her adolescence.
Moonlight pierced through the air, spreading across the room like water, illuminating the two people sinking into indulgence within the bedroom.
Early the next morning, Shen Wanli woke up very early. Seeing that Jiang Rou was still fast asleep, she knew she had worn her out, but she also knew this opportunity came only once.
Having made up her mind, she quietly slipped down to the pile of clothes on the floor to find Jiang Rou’s portable keys, opened the bedroom door, and looked at Jiang Rou’s sleeping face with a complex, unreadable expression in her eyes.
The events of the past few days had tightly entangled her and Jiang Rou together, catching her completely off guard and exposing all her evasions so nakedly out in the open, dissected so plainly.
Shen Wanli put away her complicated expression, sighed, and ultimately left.
At the very instant Shen Wanli gently closed the door, the person who should have been fast asleep on the bed opened her eyes. Looking at the tightly shut door and listening to the sound of shoes being put on in the living room followed by the final closing of the outer door, she let out a bitter laugh, yet did not get up to chase after her.
Jiang Rou gazed at the crystal chandelier on the ceiling. Though she had achieved her goal, it did not feel all that joyful.
She lay there reminiscing about the events of the past few days, then fell into a new cycle of deep thought.
Perhaps it was time to consider changing strategies, was it not?
