“…?”
Yu Lang’s brow, adorned with a shining silver piercing, furrowed in confusion. The piercing shifted slightly under the tension.
“This… is a confession?”
He asked the man beside him, body frozen, lips twitching nervously, thinking that at any move, he could press his tongue against him.
This tactic had always worked for Yu Lang; he knew his face was his weapon but Chi Jianqing was the first to have actual physical contact.
“Yes,” Chi Jianqing replied.
His hand still pressed against Yu Lang’s, palm cradling Yu Lang’s back carefully.
Who could resist this face? Yu Lang had long grown indifferent to confessions.
Yu Lang’s face remained tightly knotted, eyes full of fear and anxiety, spinning nervously like a doll in a washing machine.
“My waist… ”
He gripped Chi Jianqing’s hand harder, his palm pressing the wound against the other’s icy, wet hand.
“Is my waist broken?!”
That was his primary concern. The spade’s sharpest edge still pressed against him yet his body had lost all sensation through the night’s terror or perhaps his waist had indeed been broken and adrenaline alone kept him barely alive.
Yu Lang’s hands instinctively curled tightly around Chi Jianqing’s, desperate to force his fingers into every available gap between the other man’s. He refused to let go until he received a response.
It was in that exact moment that Yu Lang realized just how vast the difference in their physiques truly was.
His two hands barely managed to encircle one of Chi Jianqing’s hands. The thick, powerful knuckles pressed into his palms and fingers, each joint digging with a force that radiated sharp, almost unbearable pain from fingertips to the center of his hand.
“Don’t break my waist. Don’t kill me. I’ll do whatever you want.”
Yu Lang pressed those hands against his lips, kissing them tenderly.
The pale, almost blue tinged hands held traces of crimson blood, damp mildew from the rain and the decayed essence of six feet of earth above buried corpses.
A sour, metallic taste rose in Yu Lang’s throat, making him gag but someone desperate to live doesn’t care about such things.
As he kissed, Yu Lang deliberately widened his eyes, projecting helplessness and innocence. His hair hung wet and messy, rainwater dripping down to blur his vision.
He looked like a wounded little animal, legs broken, drenched and powerless, radiating weakness with every shivering breath.
The gaze he fixed on Chi Jianqing was one of reverence, as if he were staring at a deity sent to save him.
A fragile, merciful god arriving on a night cold, damp and soaked in blood and chaos.
Chi Jianqing’s dark pupils sharpened into something terrifying, the edges of those inky black orbs briefly blurring before flaring out like countless piercing spikes.
But it lasted only a fleeting instant, so brief that Chi Jianqing himself barely registered the loss of control.
“Your waist… isn’t broken,” he said.
Each word uttered in the perfect tone, precise and neutral yet lacking the natural fluctuations of human speech.
“Really?”
“Yes, really.”
Hearing this, Yu Lang slowly shifted his weight back, cautiously moving his body away from the tension.
“Then go ahead and take the spade off my waist first.”
“All right.”
Chi Jianqing’s words felt less like communication and more like an automated system retrieving data, delivering it in the most neutral tone possible.
He climbed out from under the bed. Yu Lang watched through the narrow gap, observing every movement of Chi Jianqing’s ankles as he acted with silent precision.
Suddenly, there was a lightness at his waist, the spade had been removed.
But Yu Lang hadn’t even moved when Chi Jianqing’s legs went down first, kneeling, half his face angled in the shadows of the narrow gap, staring down at the figure beneath the bed.
Looking at Yu Lang as a killer would eye a hidden survivor.
A faint, unreadable smile curved his lips, saying silently, Caught you.
Yu Lang hadn’t even opened his mouth when a pale, massive hand stabbed through the gap toward him.
Immediately, every hair on his body bristled.
Like a frightened mouse, he scurried beneath the bed.
But his waist, already stiff from the spade’s pressure, froze him in place. When Chi Jianqing’s hand reached him, he grabbed Yu Lang by the side, pulling and adjusting him, then swiftly locked his calf in a precise movement that left Yu Lang immobile.
Yu Lang struggled, squirming like an eel hiding beneath a rock, slippery, elusive but in the presence of absolute strength, his frantic attempts were nothing more than child’s play. A firm grip lifted him, leaving him locked in Chi Jianqing’s hands, utterly helpless.
Outside, the night offered no moon. A shard of lightning flickered through the broken doorframe, revealing a shockingly pale scene.
It was as if a bucket of white paint had been poured recklessly across the entire room. The dull gray walls turned an unfamiliar shade of ghostly white. The figure before him was equally pale, blue tinged, leaving only two black, hollow eyes as the remaining trace of color.
Chi Jianqing was indeed tall and the disparity between them was undeniable.
Estimating from his own height of one hundred seventy seven centimeters including shoes, Yu Lang guessed Chi Jianqing to be around two meters tall.
Chi Jianqing’s position by the door blocked any escape routes, his presence radiating damp heat and mist that seemed to coil into invisible tendrils, suffocating Yu Lang in shadows.
Yu Lang could only stiffly turn, settling at the edge of the bed, panting heavily.
He dared not close his eyes; closing them would conjure Chi Jianqing’s ghostly, inhuman expression in his mind, staring unblinkingly, predatory.
He remained silent and still.
Chi Jianqing, taking control of the scene, walked around the small, ruined room. He moved as if searching or inspecting, surveying every corner meticulously.
Snap!
Chi Jianqing decisively tore off a corner of his shirt. “There’s no water in this room.”
Yu Lang pointed outside. “The kitchen’s over there.”
“All right.”
Chi Jianqing stepped out, Yu Lang following.
At a neighbor’s kitchen sink, Chi Jianqing cleaned the torn fabric, with Yu Lang shadowing him, one hand resting on the counter, using the sound of the rain to mask the subtle scraping of cloth and motion of knives.
Thud….
By the time Chi Jianqing finished washing the fabric, Yu Lang had a massive, cumbersome kitchen knife hidden behind his back, pressed against his waist.
He only needed a single lapse in Chi Jianqing’s attention and the knife could swing toward his neck.
Severe arteries in one stroke. Shatter bone.
Slice...
Crush…
Kick him like a ball. Send him flying and never see him again.
The fear that had gripped him before had been replaced. Yu Lang now stared boldly at Chi Jianqing’s back, fantasizing.
Rainwater streamed down the knife handle into his palm, sharing in his shivering anticipation.
The sharp blade twitched, impatient.
It longed for motion.
