Chapter 5: Uncanny hill village

Mythos: The Undefeated One

A pale skinned, beautiful young woman strolled through the streets of hail city with nothing but Ecstasy and admiration in her slightly curved brown eyes.

The game mythos had truly come to life, at first she didn’t believe it when her friend had told her hours ago, shrugging it off as an impossibility. Now she was without doubt staring at that same impossibility face to face.

Unlike the few players that also respawned along with her to the hail city, her outfit was slightly different. She wore an armless linen wrapped diagonally with a shawl as a shirt while she also wore a skirt that was simply rounded white linen pulled out like roses, overlapping and tied at the side, revealing her olive laps and legs. She looked like she was on the beach rather than in a city.

She was truly breathtaking.

Having gone through the streets of hail city, confirming if everything was the same as the old mythos.

Clara had discovered she had three problems in general, of which the first she considered as survival.

As the game mythos was only a great place to stay if you were strong, and also she was getting irritated from the various stares and weird invitations from fat, skinny or scrawny men that she had passed or come across in the city.

The next was that she had to find a way to communicate to the people of mythos, she knew they weren’t versed in sign language which was the only method of communication she knew of.

And the last was to find her loved ones, she wanted to pat little Selene’s head again and also fight side by side with Luke in the game but this time not with avatars, but for real.

And luckily she had gotten an answer to two of these questions, to get stronger she had to reunite with her guild.

"Burning Phoenix."

She recalled the legendary guild master who had been the only one that could challenge the leveling maniac for the first role on the leader boards, he and many others there, was her key to retrieve more information on getting strong.

The second solution was that a majority of the core members in her guild knew Asl (American sign Language). And at least a few or one of the core members should have also respawned in hail city just like her.

However she didn’t have an answer for the third, which was sad, she didn’t know if any of them were alive or not.

But as a mage, Clara had promised herself to get powerful and rich enough to find her family, that would be her most important goal. She clenched her fists with determination, all of this was based on hope, the hope that her siblings were still alive and maybe in this city someone who could help her communicate clearly was nearby.

On the city’s side of the empire, the sun was already returning to the horizon; luckily, Clara had received various coins in her inventory.

She decided to end the day in one of the inns she had seen on her way towards this part of the city. Communication was gonna be tough, but random gestures should be enough?

*Meanwhile Luke.*

Luke’s boots scraped across the surface of the green field. Dressed in a lay man’s clothing. Around him were various trees and right ahead was a wooden gate with two guards standing at the front of it, collecting fees from various other players who had respawned in the same place as Luke.

Luke had respawned in the uncanny hill village, a popular respawning point for players in the game. It was a village that was situated at the slant point of a hill filled with various trees and covered by a green field.

The village was alone and not close to other villages but was still a part of the larger kingdom.

At first Luke was surprised at the fact that the various players that had gathered at the front of the gate suddenly had the fees that the guards were asking for, however he then realized that he was given a starter pack earlier by Ella, which most likely held the contents he needed to proceed.

Curiously Luke spoke a command, just like he usually ordered when he had first begun the game.

"Open starter pack."

And just as he said that, a translucent screen appeared in front of him with the information he was searching for.

Congratulations you have opened the starter pack and have received-

100x bronze coins.

50x silver coins.

[No need for luck, you are the undefeated one. ]

Luke’s eyes twitched as he went through the lines of the text, the part that got him a bit angry was the system was purposely not wishing him luck because he was the what?

The undefeated one?

It felt as though it was mocking him.

The whole message was mysterious and unsettling to Luke in a way, the fact that the uncanny seer had been trying to summon him for three whole decades meant that there was a problem in the village that had been that bothersome.

The mysterious part was how was he supposed to answer the summoning?

And if by any means he actually finally responds.

How was he supposed to defeat whatever the problem was with some stupid bright sword and an unscathed armour, that were common?!

What is the realm of the forgotten and what was he supposed to use the veil to do?

None of this was in the game previously, there were so many questions, but Luke knew with time, things tended to reveal themselves, he just had to do a little bit of digging.

He sighed bitterly and tapped on the text of "The undefeated one’s mask." and surprisingly there was more information.
