(?) Why did she agree to this was the only thought on Reyna’s mind as she and Brixton explored the town.

It was bustling with activity as people went about doing their business though several people stopped to stare at them.

Considering the clothes they were wearing, she couldn’t saw she was surprised that so many people were staring.Full novel: Of Regret and Redemption — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

All white outfits would definitely draw attention.

When Brixton had suggested that they act like a loving couple going on a date, she had immediately refused.

The idea was so absurd that she hadn’t even considered it for a second.

For one, she wasn’t comfortable with the idea.

She had never dated anyone before.

Her relationship with her ex-husband had been a transaction where she thought love or at least respect would grow after the marriage which clearly didn’t happen.

For the other, it felt wrong to go on a “date” when her son was in danger.

It felt like she was putting him second even though he was in trouble when that wasn’t the case at all.

Besides, how would dating get anyone who was spying on them to get off their back?

Wouldn’t it just encourage the ones watching their every move to look deeper into their actions?

However, Brixton had acted so certain that it would work, and she couldn’t exactly refuse as she didn’t have any better ideas.

With her mind a jumbled mess, she would have run into a pole if Brixton hadn’t pulled her close at the last second.

Slightly flustered, she murmured thanks as they continued to take a look around.

They paused at several shops and bought a couple items so it didn’t look suspicious that they weren’t getting anything.

Most were basic items like accessories or souvenirs that she intended to give to everyone back home.

If she had to play the role of the tourist, she might as well get something out of it.

Initially, she felt guilty for spending Brixton’s money.

It was his money after all, but she hadn’t brought any money with her.

Even if she had, it would have been empire currency which definitely wasn’t accepted by the kingdom.

Speaking of which, she shouldn’t be surprised that he had the kingdom’s currency on hand given everything he had done so far, but she still found it frightening how prepared he was to enter the kingdom and blend in like he wasn’t a citizen of an enemy country.

If she didn’t know any better, she would have thought he was sent by the empire to infiltrate the kingdom which was ridiculous.

If he really was an empire agent, why would he need her to help him with his mission?

She was certain that the empire had plenty of trained agents of all kinds, and he could have picked anyone.

Of course this was on the assumption that he was an agent of the empire which he wasn’t.

The duo stopped at a cafe and ordered dinner.

While they waited for their meals, Brixton was back on his phone again.

She stared at him briefly before turning her gaze to her surroundings.

The place was very different from Harlow.

It wasn’t just because of the size difference and the structure of the town.

It had a different atmosphere to it despite the town being surrounded by a wall.

She would describe it as bright and lively.

“Is there somewhere you want to go, dear?” Brixton abruptly asked.

Startled at the sudden address, she stared at him for several moments before remembering they were supposed to be acting like a couple and said, “Sorry, I have a lot on my mind.

Can you repeat that again?” “I was just asking if there’s a particular place you want to go to.

Are you feeling well?” he asked.

Confused, she said, “I’m a little tired I guess.

I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.” “That’s fine.

I shouldn’t have kept you up so late last night.

When we return back to the hotel, you can rest early,” he said.

Before she could speak another word, the waitress returned with their food.

She calmly set the food down on the table and excused herself.

Reyna thanked the waitress and was about to start eating when she noticed her talking to another waitress.

They were clearly talking about them, and her heart raced.

Had they somehow been found out?

Was it something she said?

Should they run?

Suddenly, the waitresses started giggling, shooting glances at Reyna and Brixton.

Her brows furrowed as her previous fear and anxiety subsided.

They didn’t seem to be acting like they discovered their secret, but what were they giggling about?

“You shouldn’t mind them.

They just misunderstood something,” Brixton said as he dug into his meal.

Reyna reluctantly turned her attention back to the meal in front of her, trying to put on an act that she didn’t care about them.

Her hands trembled as she picked up her utensils.

She couldn’t understand what he was saying.

What had they misunderstood?

Was he talking about their conversation?

Reyna didn’t think they said anything that could be easily misunderstood.

They only talked about places to see and how tired she was.

Suddenly, an outrageous thought crossed her mind, causing her to choke on her food.

Fortunately, the food didn’t go down the wrong way as she grabbed her glass of water.

There was no way the waitresses really thought that they were talking about that.

It was simply ridiculous.

They hadn’t done anything inappropriate.

Anyone that would assume that just because of their words had a dirty mind.

After drinking several gulps of water, she set the half drunk glass on the table.

She took a peek at Brixton, but he was completely calm as he continued to eat.

He was surprisingly calm about the whole thing.

Was he not bothered by the assumption?

She guessed not given the way he was acting.

Maybe she was just blowing things out of proportion.

It wasn’t like they were a bunch of teenagers sneaking around during puberty.

They were two grown adults with more important things to worry about.

Reyna turned back to the meal, trying not to think about it.

Once they finished eating and paid for the meal, they left quickly, but Reyna swore she could hear the waitresses whispering and giggling behind their backs.

Did they really have nothing better to do?

Shouldn’t they be doing their jobs and serving customers?

They stayed out for a while longer, exploring as much of the place they could, before returning to the hotel.

Once inside, Brixton said, “That should have done the trick.

We can part ways tomorrow.” “Are you sure?” she blurted out with wide eyes.

How was he so confident that their “date” had really tricked the people monitoring them?

She felt that she had done a horrible job acting naturally and would have made those watching them more likely to tail after them.

“I had people keeping an eye out.

They gave me the clear sign.

We’ll be able to make our move tomorrow,” Brixton said.

What?

He had people in the kingdom?

How was that even possible?

Someone from the empire shouldn’t have so much influence in the kingdom.

Just who was he exactly?

What had she exactly gotten herself into?
