Maya stepped into the alley and the man in the dark jacket was already there.

The streetlight above him flickered.

Blood had soaked through the pad the private doctor had given her.

The second procedure had left her more hollow than the first.

“You should have stayed in the hospital,” the man said.

“Walking around like this is stupid.” Maya backed up until her shoulders hit the brick wall.

“What do you want?” “The same thing as before.

Information.

Leverage.

You burned the drive, but you still have value.

A second termination so soon after the first makes a very interesting story for the right people.” She tried to move past him.

He blocked her path.

Pain spiked through her lower stomach and her knees almost gave out.

The man caught her arm before she fell.

His grip was hard.

“You’re coming with me,” he said.

“We have a quiet place to talk.” Maya swung the small medical bag at his face.

It caught him in the mouth.

He staggered.

She ran.

Every step sent fresh pain through her, but she kept moving until she reached the main street and saw a taxi.

She climbed in and locked the door.

“Just drive,” she told the driver.

“Anywhere.” She gave him the address of Damian’s apartment after a few blocks.

By the time the car stopped her jeans were sticky with blood.

She paid with shaking hands and forced herself up the stairs.

Damian opened the door before she could knock.

His face was tight with worry and anger.

“Where the hell have you been?” he asked.

Then he saw the blood.

“Maya—” She walked past him into the bathroom and locked the door.

She sat on the floor with her back against the tub and let the tears come.

The second abortion had taken the last piece she was still carrying.

The clinic.

Her mother’s lies.

The buyers.

Rachel’s death.

All of it had hollowed her out.

She had chosen this ending herself, and it still felt like someone else had decided her body was never hers.

Damian knocked.

“Please open the door.

You’re bleeding.

Let me help.” She unlocked it.

He came in, knelt down, and checked the bleeding without asking questions she was not ready to answer.

He cleaned her up with careful hands, found clean clothes, and helped her to the bed.

She lay on her side and stared at the wall.

“I ended it,” she said finally.

“Properly this time.

I couldn’t keep it.

Not after everything.” Damian was silent for a long time.

Then he stretched out behind her and pulled her against his chest.

He did not try to change her mind.

He only held her while the empty feeling settled deeper.

Across the city, Richard sat in his office with the lights low.

The burned drive had removed one problem, but the family situation was still messy.

Maya was unstable.

Damian was too attached.

The investigation around the clinic was getting closer than he liked.

He needed Damian pulled away from her before the next wave of trouble landed.

He made two calls.

The first was to a woman he had used before for quiet jobs — young, attractive, good at following instructions.

He gave her a hotel name, a time, and clear orders.

She was to be seen with Damian.

Close.

Touching.

Enough for photos that looked real.

The second call was to a private contact who handled staged evidence.

Richard sent over a few old messages from Damian’s phone that could be edited and a short list of locations.

By morning there would be photos and a short video that made it look like Damian had been meeting someone else for weeks.

Richard poured a drink and stared out the window.

He did not like using his own son this way.

But the alternative was watching the entire situation around Maya and the clinic destroy the careful lines he had built.

A clean break between Damian and Maya was safer for everyone.

Back at the apartment, Maya slept in short, restless stretches.

Damian stayed awake most of the night, checking her bleeding and answering a few work messages on his phone.

One message came from a number he did not recognize.

*Your father needs to see you tomorrow morning.

Business.

Alone.

Important.* Damian frowned but replied that he would come.

In the morning Maya was still pale and quiet.

The bleeding had slowed.

She sat on the couch with a blanket around her shoulders and watched Damian get dressed.

“I have to meet my father,” he said.

“I won’t be long.

Stay here.

Rest.

Call me if anything feels wrong.” She nodded.

He kissed the top of her head and left.

Richard’s plan moved quickly.

The woman met Damian outside the office building under the excuse of needing a signature on a delivery.

She stood close, laughed at the right moments, and touched his arm while a man across the street took photos with a long lens.

Later she appeared again near the parking garage, walking beside him for thirty seconds while more pictures were taken.

Damian looked confused and slightly annoyed, but the images did not show that.

They showed something else.

By early afternoon the staged photos and the edited message screenshots were already in a folder ready to be sent.

Maya spent the day on the couch, moving only to change pads and drink water.

The empty space inside her felt larger when the apartment was quiet.

She kept replaying the second procedure — the private room, the pain, the moment she knew it was finished.

She had wanted control.

She had gotten another kind of emptiness instead.

Her phone stayed silent until late afternoon.

Then a message arrived from an unknown number.

She almost ignored it.

Too many unknown numbers had brought trouble.

But the preview line caught her eye.

*You should know what he’s been doing while you were losing the baby.* Maya’s thumb hovered over the screen.

She did not open it yet.

Something in the wording made her stomach turn.

Outside, Richard received confirmation that the package of photos and messages had been delivered to the contact who would send them to Maya.

He closed his laptop and poured another drink.

The break would look natural.

Damian would deny it.

Maya was already fragile enough that the pictures would finish the job.

At the apartment, Maya finally opened the message.

There were no photos yet — only the single line and a promise.

*Details tomorrow.

You’re not the only one he’s been inside of.* She stared at the screen until her eyes burned.

The hollow feeling in her body mixed with a new, sharp fear.

She typed a short reply.

*Who is this?* No answer came.

Damian walked back into the apartment an hour later.

He looked tired and irritated from the strange meetings his father had arranged.

Maya watched him from the couch and said nothing about the message.

The words sat in her phone like a second wound waiting to open.

That night she let him hold her, but when he kissed her she turned her face away.

The emptiness was too wide.

Damian noticed.

He asked if she was in pain.

She told him she was only tired.

After he fell asleep, Maya lay awake and stared at the ceiling.

The unknown sender had promised details tomorrow.

She did not know what was coming, only that the ground under her kept giving way no matter which direction she stepped.

In his office, Richard sent one final instruction to the contact.

*Make sure she sees the hotel photo first.

The one with the open door.* Then he turned off the light.
