In the spacious and bright living room, an elegant and noble woman sat on the sofa.

Dressed in dignified and refined attire, she appeared to be around forty years old. Her eyes lit up when she saw the newcomers.

Lu Jingyan placed the gifts on the table. “Mom.”Full novel: Please Hear My Confession — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Shen Nanyin wore a gentle and sweet smile as she followed suit with a greeting.

After all, she was a tool rigorously trained by Shen Dingguo, so her demeanor wouldn’t falter.

Lu Minghui was overjoyed to see such a beautiful daughter-in-law and couldn’t stop smiling. “Oh, dear girl, you must have suffered being with this good-for-nothing son of mine!”

Lu Jingyan: ?

Pulling Shen Nanyin’s hand, Lu Minghui made her sit beside her. From the pile of boxes on the table, she fished out an imperial green jade bracelet and slipped it onto Shen Nanyin’s wrist without hesitation.

The fair and slender wrist made the already expensive imperial green jade appear even more translucent and beautiful.

“That brat hasn’t been bullying you, has he?”

After all, Lu Jingyan was her son, and she knew his character well. She had thought he would end up alone, but it seemed there was still hope.

Before Shen Nanyin could respond, Lu Jingyan loosened his tie and smiled ambiguously. “Why would I bully her? It took so much effort to wait for her to break up with her ex-boyfriend and snatch her away. I have to guard her carefully.”

What was he saying? Who would bring up an ex-boyfriend in such a situation?

Shen Nanyin’s palms were sweating.

Was this the story he had fabricated about how they met…?

Lu Minghui shot Lu Jingyan a glare. “You should be thanking your lucky stars for this opportunity.”

“Yes, yes, our ancestors’ graves are even smoking with joy.”

Lu Minghui couldn’t be bothered with him and turned her smiling eyes back to Shen Nanyin.

“When are you two planning to hold the wedding?”

Shen Nanyin was taken aback and cast a pleading look toward Lu Jingyan.

Was there even going to be a wedding?

Lu Jingyan pretended not to notice. Just then, a call came from the company, and he tossed out, “I’ll listen to whatever my wife says,” before stepping out to take the call.

After walking a few steps, he turned back and added, “Mom, keep her company for a while.”

Lu Minghui: ?

Did she need him to tell her that?

Lu Daiqing sat nearby, eating fruit and thoroughly enjoying the show, while also chatting animatedly with a male model on her phone screen.

“Xiao Yin, when do you want to hold the wedding?”

Shen Nanyin had no choice but to brace herself and respond, “I’m still a junior in college. Let’s talk about the wedding after graduation.”

“What?!”

Lu Minghui’s eyes widened in shock.

Shen Nanyin grew nervous, unsure what she had said wrong.

“That good-for-nothing Lu Jingyan!”

Lu Minghui was furious. How dare he trick such a young girl into marrying him? Did he think there was no law in Jingbei?

Lu Daiqing couldn’t help but laugh but kindly reminded, “Mom, don’t scare my sister-in-law.”

Snapping back to reality and seeing the girl’s nervous expression, Lu Minghui quickly patted her hand to reassure her.

“Tell me honestly, did you willingly marry him?”

Shen Nanyin answered earnestly, “Yes, it was willingly.”

“Really?” Lu Minghui looked skeptical.

“Really.” Although Shen Nanyin didn’t understand what was happening, she tried her best to uphold Lu Jingyan’s image. “He… he treats me quite well.”

Reassured by her answer, Lu Minghui sighed in relief and spoke a few more words to her.

“You should know that Lu Jingyan has always been lawless, but now that you’re here to keep him in check, I’m relieved. Still, if you ever feel wronged, you must come to me, understand?”

At that moment, Lu Jingyan returned after finishing his phone call and overheard a bit of their conversation. His tone was leisurely.

“Speaking ill of me in front of my wife, Mom—are you trying to break us apart?”

“Go on, go on,” Lu Minghui said, holding Shen Nanyin’s hand with one hand and Lu Daiqing’s with the other. “Aunt Wang should have the meal ready by now. Let’s head to the dining room.”

Lu Minghui’s hand was warm, and she smelled faintly fragrant.
