Volume 1 Chapter 7: Don’t You Love Me Anymore?
When she arrived at the company building, Song Jingmian suddenly remembered—how was she going to get in?
She glanced down at the bag in her hand. The cookies inside had spilled quite a bit earlier. Luckily, not all of them were ruined; there were still a few left.
At least he could still taste the cookies she had made herself.
Before entering the company, she tried calling Xiao Zhang first, but he didn’t answer.
She didn’t dare call Bo Jingci rashly at this hour. He was probably still in a meeting, and she didn’t want to disturb him.
Since Xiao Zhang wasn’t answering, he was likely busy too.
She took a step forward and walked inside.
The receptionist noticed her the moment she entered.
The girl in front of her was about 168 centimeters tall, with a slender waist, long legs, and milky-white skin. She wore a simple dress that accentuated her delicate and elegant figure. Her overall demeanor was cool and aloof, and even with a mask on, it was clear she was a stunning beauty.
She looked soft and sweet.
While the receptionist was still lost in thought, the beauty suddenly approached.
“Hello, is your CEO in?”
As soon as she finished speaking, the receptionist scanned her from head to toe.
She couldn’t help but feel disdainful inside: Another one here to see the CEO.
Having worked here for a long time, she had seen plenty of this.
Sometimes, the daughters of business partners would use the collaboration between their companies as an excuse to find various reasons to meet the CEO. Unfortunately, the CEO was naturally aloof and paid no attention to such matters.
He didn’t even know they were coming.
Once, he had even said, “Don’t let irrelevant people into the company casually.”
“Do you have an appointment? People can’t just enter the company without one.”
Hearing this, Song Jingmian frowned. “No.”
At her response, the receptionist rolled her eyes inwardly.
“Then you can’t go in.”
Song Jingmian asked, “Can I wait here for a while?”
It was lunchtime, and people were coming and going. Song Jingmian thought she might run into Xiao Zhang downstairs later.
After all, she had sent him a message just before entering.
“No, you can’t—” the receptionist began, frowning slightly, but she was interrupted by a sudden voice.
“Madam?!”
Xiao Zhang hurried over to Song Jingmian, his tone respectful. “What brings you here?”
The receptionist’s eyes widened in shock as she murmured, “Ma… Madam?”
Behind her mask, Song Jingmian smiled, her eyes curving into crescents, and replied softly, “Mm.”
She turned to Xiao Zhang and asked, “Is Bo Jingci upstairs?”
Xiao Zhang replied, “Yes, Madam. The CEO is still in a meeting and will likely be busy for a while longer. Would you like to go up and wait?”
“Mm, lead the way.”
With that, Xiao Zhang guided Song Jingmian toward the CEO’s private elevator.
“Holy crap…”
The receptionist couldn’t help but curse under her breath.
“The CEO actually has a wife?!”
“Yeah, I’ve never heard about this before.”
“Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen her. She’s so beautiful, ahhh!”
Passersby also stopped to watch what had just happened, whispering among themselves.
Song Jingmian paid no attention. Once she followed Xiao Zhang into the elevator, the voices were left behind.
“Madam… why did you come?” Xiao Zhang asked curiously in the elevator.
He was a bit shocked, but his professional demeanor kept his expression neutral, though his mind was racing.
“Is Bo Jingci going to be too busy to eat again?”
Xiao Zhang: “Actually, the CEO does eat when it’s time, but he’s been busy lately. It’s his work habit—he only eats after finishing his tasks.”
Song Jingmian nodded in understanding. “So that’s why I’m here to bring him a meal.”
Xiao Zhang looked up, his eyes wide. “…”
“Pfft.” Song Jingmian was amused by his reaction.
“What? Not welcome?”
“No, no!” Xiao Zhang immediately said in a panic. “The CEO would be overjoyed to have you here. How could we not welcome you?”
With a ding, the elevator arrived at the CEO’s office floor.
“Madam, please wait in the lounge for a moment. The CEO should finish his meeting in about ten minutes.”
Song Jingmian nodded.
Upon reaching the lounge, she looked at the decor inside. As expected, it was as minimalist and monotonous as ever.
The design was sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing, but it lacked a sense of liveliness.
She casually glanced around and walked over to the table, where she noticed a photo frame.
As Song Jingmian approached and saw that the person in the photo was herself, she couldn’t help but laugh softly.
“Such a closet romantic,” she murmured with a smile.
Just then, a faint noise came from the entrance. Song Jingmian turned around and locked eyes with the man who had hurried over.
The reason she knew he had rushed was because he was slightly out of breath when he entered, his hair slightly disheveled, and his chest rising and falling gently.
“You finished your meeting?”
She looked every bit like a dutiful little wife waiting obediently for her husband to come home.
Smiling, she walked up to him, took his hand without hesitation, and led him to the table. “Let’s eat, then.”
After sitting down, she quickly opened the lunchbox on the table and mumbled, “Whew~ Good, the food is still warm.”
Then she turned to look at the man beside her, but he wasn’t looking at her. Instead, he suddenly grasped her hand gently, his brow furrowed. “What happened to your leg?”
“And your hand.”
As he spoke, he glanced at the scraped part of her arm.
Only then did Song Jingmian notice the scrape on her arm. She hadn’t even realized it was there.
She tried to brush it off with an awkward laugh. “Haha… uh… let’s eat first.”
With that, she tried to pull her hand away.
Unexpectedly, he held on tighter.
Frowning, his tone turned slightly cold. “Tell me.”
Song Jingmian pouted, forcing two tears to well up in her eyes as she looked at him pitifully.
“Don’t be so harsh with me…”
Song Jingmian admitted she was disgusted with herself.
But this man was the type who responded to softness, not toughness. Without a little genuine effort, he wouldn’t soften.
Bo Jingci looked at the girl before him, her tears on the verge of falling, her face full of grievance as she gazed at him pitifully. His heart melted.
He felt his heartbeat was no longer under his control, pounding wildly in his chest.
Suddenly feeling parched, he looked into her eyes and let out a deep sigh.
“I’m not being harsh with you.”
His tone was both helpless and full of affection.
“Mianmian.”
Song Jingmian’s eyes lit up instantly.
Huh?!
He called me Mianmian.
Is he not angry anymore?!
Seizing the opportunity, she acted unreasonably. “Then don’t be so cold to me in the future, okay?”
“I’m not cold.”
“You are!” Song Jingmian looked at him reproachfully.
“You’re not as passionate as you were when we first got married.”
She pouted pitifully. “Do you not love me anymore?”
“Do you have another dog outside?”
Bo Jingci: “…”
He looked somewhat puzzled. “Don’t we already have a few dogs at home?”
Song Jingmian: “…”
Oh no… I’ve run into a caveman.
“Let’s apply the medicine first.”
His tone brooked no argument, and he then turned to fetch the first aid kit.
