3 – Becoming a Champion on the Day of Divorce

Tianyi Hospital in Ningcheng, VIP ward.

“Axiao, my injury has nothing to do with Ji Shuang. I was the one who insisted she not stay by my side. Don’t punish her!” Qin Mingyue, who had just woken from unconsciousness, said weakly as she looked at Fu Jingxiao.Full novel: President Fu, Madam Spent 100 Billion Telling You to Get Lost — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Mingyue, one more millimeter and that knife would have pierced your heart. Today was your first day as CEO of Qin Corporation, and I specifically assigned her to protect you.”

“She failed to protect you and let you get hurt. She deserves her punishment. You don’t need to plead for her.” After Fu Jingxiao finished speaking, he looked at Ji Shuang standing nearby with eyes devoid of warmth.

“Axiao, I got hurt because I wanted the board members to see me as warm and courteous, so I had Ji Shuang wait outside the door. If you insist on punishing her, then I won’t receive treatment at the hospital.” Qin Mingyue struggled up from the hospital bed, her face full of pain.

“Don’t move. I promise you—I won’t punish her!” Fu Jingxiao quickly pressed down on Qin Mingyue’s shoulders, reluctantly giving in.

As Fu Jingxiao stopped Qin Mingyue, she grabbed his shirt and pulled it down, revealing a patch of bruising below his neck. Qin Mingyue’s eyes instantly turned cold.

Had he found a woman last night to relieve the drug in his body?

He had said that his marriage of two years was a marriage of convenience, that he had never touched that woman.

If he hadn’t touched his legal wife in two years, then last night he shouldn’t have touched that so-called wife either.

So who was the woman he favored last night?

“Axiao, thank you. Next time I promise I’ll follow all your arrangements and won’t act on my own again.” Qin Mingyue spoke words of gratitude, but inside she was seething with hatred.

Originally, she had someone drug Fu Jingxiao at the club, planning to “accidentally” run into him and offer herself to relieve his drug, so she could quickly take the position of Mrs. Fu.

But instead, some damned woman had gotten the benefit.

Once she found out who had served as Fu Jingxiao’s cure, she would make sure that woman died.

“Thank you, Miss Qin, for pleading on my behalf. Thank you, Fu, for sparing me punishment!” Ji Shuang looked at Qin Mingyue, her eyes full of gratitude.

“It won’t happen again. Get out!” Fu Jingxiao coldly ordered her out.

“Yes, Fu!” Ji Shuang replied respectfully, then turned and left.

For a moment, only Qin Mingyue and Fu Jingxiao remained in the ward.

“Axiao, have you divorced her?”

Fu Jingxiao nodded slightly, but the mere thought of Luo Xingchen leaving with that man in green made a surge of frustration well up in his chest, leaving him deeply vexed.

“Axiao, two years ago I left without saying goodbye. Were you very angry with me?” Qin Mingyue looked at Fu Jingxiao with aggrieved eyes.

“You were forced by Grandfather to leave. How could I be angry with you?” Fu Jingxiao forcibly drove Luo Xingchen’s face from his mind and replied gently, good-naturedly.

“Now that you’ve divorced her, can we go back to how things used to be?” Qin Mingyue said with deep affection in her eyes, reaching out to take Fu Jingxiao’s hand.

At the touch of the woman’s cold fingertips, Fu Jingxiao felt a revulsion as if entangled by an icy venomous snake, and instinctively pulled his hand away from Qin Mingyue’s.

“Axiao, do you find me repulsive now?” Qin Mingyue looked at Fu Jingxiao, her face full of hurt.

“I will never hold anything against you, but we can’t go back to how things were two years ago. Before you returned to the country, I already told you—all the hardships you suffered abroad under Qin Nanzhi’s suppression, I will repay them one by one, and I will help you secure your position as President of the Qin Group so you can live the rest of your life without worry. But the person who will spend that life with you is not me. Don’t ask me questions like this again!” Fu Jingxiao said, looking at Qin Mingyue with a serious gaze.

He had indeed said those words to her before she returned to the country.

But Qin Mingyue had believed that once she came back, she would be the only one in his heart.

So on the day of his divorce, she still wanted to test how much weight she carried in his heart.

Now it seemed that the woman he had entered into a contract marriage with also held some weight in his heart—enough that even after the divorce, he wouldn’t start a relationship with her so quickly.

“Axiao, if you hadn’t divorced that woman, I would never have said those things. But now you’re divorced, you’re single again, and I won’t give up on you. I believe that as long as I keep trying, one day you’ll accept me again, and we’ll return to how things used to be.” Qin Mingyue looked at Fu Jingxiao with unwavering eyes.

Seeing her pale, frail face so full of determination, Fu Jingxiao didn’t want her health affected by this matter, so he said gently, “The most important thing right now is to heal your injuries. Don’t dwell on anything else.”

“Axiao, for now I don’t want to pursue the matter of Director Li stabbing me. I want to pretend to make peace and have Director Li released. When the other directors see that I hold no grudges, it will make it easier for me to win their hearts. Once I’ve established my footing in the company, it won’t be too late to deal with Director Li.”

Discarding someone once they’ve served their purpose is a common occurrence in the business world.

But hearing these words come from the seemingly soft and delicate Qin Mingyue, Fu Jingxiao felt a little unsettled.

“We’ll do it your way!”

Receiving Fu Jingxiao’s answer, Qin Mingyue was delighted.

“The Xia Nation International Games are on these next few days. You love watching the competitions—let’s watch together!” Qin Mingyue said, picking up the remote and turning on the TV.

The moment the TV came on, they heard the announcer excitedly declaring the winner of the women’s singles figure skating championship.

When the camera switched to show Luo Xingchen in a red athletic outfit, her hair in a bun, Fu Jingxiao froze like a statue.

Champion? Gold medal? Luo Xingchen was an athlete?

He had never seen her do any athletic training—how had she become a national team athlete?

On the very first day after their divorce, she transformed into a gold-medal champion. Was she slapping him in the face?

Inexplicably, Fu Jingxiao felt a slight sting on his face.

“Luo Xingchen is such an amazing athlete—beautiful and talented. I think she’ll be the next Lu Wan’er: outstanding as an athlete, and after retiring, a powerhouse actress famous around the world,” Qin Mingyue commented happily.

“Lu Wan’er has won more than a dozen gold and silver medals, big and small. She’s only won one gold medal—how does she deserve to be compared to Lu Wan’er!”

Though Fu Jingxiao spoke with disdain, deep down he knew very well that Luo Xingchen’s athletic ability surpassed Lu Wan’er’s.

Granted, Lu Wan’er was a freestyle skier while Luo Xingchen was a figure skater, so they weren’t really comparable.

But for someone who hadn’t trained regularly to win a championship the moment she stepped onto the ice—just how strong was her true ability!

…

After leaving Qin Mingyue’s hospital room, Fu Jingxiao had barely sat down in his car when he received a message from Xiao Kai.

Fu Jingxiao opened his phone. It was a screenshot.

Luo Xingchen was holding a gold medal, her smile radiant as a blooming flower, with the caption: “Breaking free from the ice like a butterfly, rising from the flames in rebirth—a new life sets sail!”

Xiao Kai had commented: Good thing my fingers were fast—I managed to grab a screenshot before Madam deleted me from her friends list. Fu, what’s your take on Madam winning a championship to celebrate her new life on her very first day of divorce?

His take?

What could he do besides sit there and look?

Fu Jingxiao searched his friends list for Luo Xingchen and found that he couldn’t view her Moments.

That woman had deleted him too!

Fu Jingxiao stared at Luo Xingchen’s beaming smile as she held the gold medal, his grip on the phone slowly tightening.

So she won one little gold medal—was that any reason to be this smug?

And all that talk about a butterfly rising from the flames in rebirth—did she really think she was a phoenix that could fly?

“Is tonight’s operation all set?” Fu Jingxiao messaged.

Xiao Kai replied quickly: “Everything is ready. Rest assured, Fu.”

“Just to be safe, I’ll go over there myself and keep an eye on things.”
