At seven-thirty, the three of them were fully dressed and ready to go.
The fireworks display was set to take place in an open-air plaza not far from the villa.
The three of them strolled down the street together, making their way toward their destination.
The streets were filled with a festive atmosphere everywhere, and the night market stalls were gradually growing lively and bustling.
Once they were out, Wen Niao’s bad mood was completely chased away by the fragrant scents drifting from the roadside street food.
Looking at the endless array of delicacies lining the street, the foodie in Wen Niao’s stomach couldn’t help but stir uncooperatively.
“Mommy, I want to eat candied haws, and stinky tofu too, wow, grilled chicken drumsticks as well, and this, I want that too, buy them for me, Mommy!”
Wen Niao wrapped his arms around Tang Miao’s arm and acted sweetly and softly spoiled.
Watching her little foodie, Tang Miao indulgently pulled out some loose change and handed it to Luo Jin.
“Xiao Jin, take Niao Niao to buy whatever he wants to eat, and go ahead and get a portion for yourself too. I’ll wait right here for you.”
“Oh yeah, Mommy, you’re the best! Love you!”
Wen Niao bought three portions of everything, except for the candied haws, because he remembered that the original character’s mother didn’t like sweets.
After acquiring the snacks he wanted, Wen Niao hugged his large bundle of loot and trotted back toward the spot where Tang Miao was waiting.
“Mommy, Niao Niao bought a portion for you too. I remember Mommy doesn’t like sweet things, so I didn’t get you any candied haws. I just hope I didn’t remember your preferences wrong.”
After saying this, Wen Niao playfully stuck out the tip of his tongue.
Tang Miao gently patted Wen Niao’s head, feeling quite comforted.
“Niao Niao didn’t remember wrong at all. Mommy really doesn’t care much for sweets. Thank you for buying so many delicious things for Mommy, I’m very happy.”
Along the way, the three of them leisurely finished off most of the snacks, and before long, they arrived at the plaza hosting the fireworks display.
By this time, a crowd had already gathered in the plaza, eagerly awaiting the start of the show.
The descent of the night provided a natural stage for the blooming fireworks.
Accompanied by successive booming sounds, streams of fireworks blossomed across the night sky, displaying their unique charms through various colors and patterns.
Silver flowers and trees turned the night into day, and dancing fireworks welcomed the new year.
The beauty of fireworks lies precisely in that single moment of brilliance; after completing their mission, they turn back into ash and scatter across the human world.
This fireworks display lasted for a full ten minutes. When it ended, everyone still felt a lingering sense of unfulfillment, enthusiastically discussing how this year’s display in Jinning City differed from the previous one’s.
“Mom, tomorrow night, is our family supposed to set off fireworks too?”
“Actually, we could set them off tonight as well, but I figured that after watching the grand display, you probably wouldn’t have much appetite for it anymore, so you can plan your time yourselves.”
“Hooray!”
Hearing Tang Miao say this, Wen Niao cheerfully laid out tomorrow night’s plan to Luo Jin:
“Brother Jin, tomorrow night let’s play with those handheld sparklers. They look amazing once you light them, and they’re great for taking atmospheric photos. We can have Mommy take pictures for us then.
Oh right, Brother Jin, a new guest is coming to the house tomorrow. It’s the owner of the boutique where I bought your plush toy last time.
He has a good relationship with our family, and since he has some matters to take care of this week, his pet dog won’t have anyone to look after it, so he plans to send Yuanyuan over to our place to board for the week.
Brother Jin, Yuanyuan is a Husky. It’s plump, exceptionally cute, and loves getting close to people. We can take turns walking it and playing with it together.”
As Wen Niao spoke about his vision, he grew more and more excited, looking forward to tomorrow with mounting anticipation.
Luo Jin also liked dogs, but he had never interacted with one up close, so a quiet sense of anticipation for this new guest began to bloom in his heart as well.
Wen Niao was sleeping soundly in his warm, cozy blankets when he felt something persistently licking his face. Feeling somewhat annoyed, he gave it a swat.
Yuanyuan, having received a big swat right across its snout from Wen Niao, behaved for only a moment before resuming its huffing and puffing wake-up service.
Wen Niao was finally woken up by the commotion. Opening his eyes, he was so startled by an enlarged dog face that he instantly woke up fully. Without even registering the situation, he directly kicked the giant creature perched on top of him straight off the bed.
“Awooo!”
When Yuanyuan was kicked off the bed, it was forced to land tail-first, and it was only thanks to the thick layer of fat on its body that its rear end didn’t blossom from the impact.
Having been booted off the bed by Wen Niao, Yuanyuan wailed and whimpered endlessly, as if lodging a protest against Wen Niao’s crimes.
The still-shaken Wen Niao realized that the dog face that had just pounced on him belonged to Yuanyuan, and he calmed down a bit.
“Aigoo, Yuanyuan, it’s you. I thought I was dreaming about some monster, you scared the life out of me.”
Yuanyuan: This handsome and dashing me, how could low-tier trash like a monster compare to me, hmph!
Yuanyuan whined and sniffled as it burrowed into Wen Niao’s arms, acting just like a wronged little pup seeking comfort from its master.
Though, well, our dear Yuanyuan seemed to have completely overlooked its own one-hundred-pound weight.
Wrapped up in Yuanyuan’s soft fur, Wen Niao felt like he was running out of breath and had to put in quite a bit of effort to soothe the dog.
“Alright, good Yuanyuan, be a good boy. If you behave, I’ll add an extra chicken drumstick to your lunch today, and we can take you out for a walk tonight too.
But, if you don’t behave yourself, then I’ll suggest to Brother Mo that he take you to get neutered!”
Hearing Wen Niao say this, Yuanyuan anxiously let out a flurry of distressed howls. What should you do when someone wants to cut off your lineage? Online, very urgent, awooo!
After washing up, Wen Niao led the puffed-up and proud Yuanyuan downstairs. In front of other people, Yuanyuan excelled at disguising itself as an obedient and well-behaved dog.
Passing the dining table, Yuanyuan proactively rubbed against Tang Miao and Wen Jingyu as a way of saying hello, then obediently trotted over to the other side to lie down and wait for its dog food.
Wen Niao fetched two chicken drumsticks, some kibble, and milk from the kitchen for Yuanyuan, placing them into its bowl.
From far away, Yuanyuan caught the scent of the breakfast Wen Niao had prepared for it, and its eyes locked immovably onto Wen Niao’s footsteps.
If it weren’t for the fear of shattering its well-behaved image in front of everyone, Yuanyuan would have loved to leap forward and snatch the food from the jaws of victory.
Wen Niao just put the bowl down near the big snout, and Yuanyuan immediately dove in with loud huffs and puffs, devouring its food so ravenously that it looked like it wanted to stuff its entire dog head into the bowl.
Wen Niao looked at the unpromising Yuanyuan with a sickly pale expression. Seriously, could you have a shred of backbone left?
Could you at least maintain some table manners?
Luo Jin watched this new family member with curiosity, silently complaining in his heart:
“Even though this Husky is a bit foolish, its handsome and dashing demeanor barely manages to cover up that flaw.
Mmm, even though its table manners are a bit crude, its fur looks very clean with a lovely sheen, and the texture when you pet it must be wonderful. Overall score, a hesitant 8 out of 10.”
Luo Jin gazed at Yuanyuan’s fluffy ears, his fingers itching with an irrepressible urge. He so badly wanted to pinch them.
Seeing Luo Jin’s expression, Wen Niao realized he looked identical to how Wen Niao himself had looked upon meeting Yuanyuan for the first time.
Cough, cough, misspoke. He looked just as cute.
