“I’ll eat by myself!”
Su Mu darted into the cafeteria and hurriedly ordered a meal. Su Chen followed lazily behind her; seeing that she had secured her food, he turned around and headed upstairs to the second-floor dining area.
After quickly finishing her meal, Su Mu pulled out her phone to check the time. It was probably too late to accompany Bai Xiu to the agency together, but she could still meet Yu Hui at the company as agreed, where she could check up on Bai Xiu’s situation while she was at it.
After sending Bai Xiu a text message, Su Mu was just getting ready to leave when she saw the head executive secretary and Wen Xin walking straight toward her.
The head secretary wore a face full of impatience, while Wen Xin’s expression was brimming with gloating malice.
Su Mu knit her brows slightly.
The head secretary spoke up first. “Don’t you know that interns aren’t allowed to take leave?! Don’t think that just because you cozy up to Assistant Yin you can do whatever you want! You report to me, not Assistant Yin—your leave for this afternoon is denied!”
“Some people aren’t here to work properly at all—who knows, maybe she’s just trying to hook a rich husband!” Wen Xin sneered from the side. “She should look at where she is instead of treating this place like one of those filthy, corrupt night clubs.”
Su Mu cast an expressionless glance at the two of them. The next second, she picked up her cafeteria tray from the table and slammed it face-down right over Wen Xin’s head!
“If you’re jealous of my beauty, just say it straight to my face instead of pulling these petty schemes.”
Ever since she had joined the company, this Wen Xin had been finding every excuse to target her. Despite it being her very first day at work, this was probably what people meant by an absolute clash of aura.
“Aah! You—!”
Sensing the leftover food grease and slop streaming down her head, Wen Xin let out a piercing shriek.
Her whole body trembled uncontrollably as she raised her hand to strike, only for Su Mu’s icy gaze to lock onto her before kicking her directly in the chest. Wen Xin crashed heavily onto the floor.
“What kind of trash thinks they can step up to me!”
w-444: “Sob sob sob~ Mumu, you really aren’t here to complete the mission, are you?!”
If the mission failed, system points would be deducted!
There wouldn’t be any wish power gained either!
All this effort would end up as nothing but drawing water with a wicker basket!
System w-444’s head was filled with nothing but tears—what about its promised new custom skins…
“I’m here for retirement.”
When she took this assignment, it had been clearly agreed upon: completing the mission was merely secondary!
w-444: “…”
Waaaaah—! It burst into a loud, hysterical cry…
(ಥ﹏ಥ)
“Su Mu! What do you think you’re doing?!”
The head secretary frantically pulled Wen Xin up from the floor, only for Su Mu to step forward and kick her right back down again.
“Is the HR department eating garbage?! How could they recruit just any trash into this company?!”
No wonder this subsidiary was declining by the day; with this much internal friction and scheming going on, how good could things possibly be?
“Who the hell do you think you are?! If you don’t want to work here, get the fuck out!” the head secretary shrieked, cursing in sheer rage.
“What is going on here?!”
A deep, stern voice barked from behind them. The head secretary froze for a second before rushing forward to give her account of the situation—naturally embellishing Su Mu’s violent actions with extra dramatic flair.
“President, the company is currently swamped with work. She requested leave on her very first day here, and she bypassed me entirely to apply directly with Assistant Yin without my knowledge! This…”
Bypassing a direct supervisor to take leave was something intolerable for any manager.
Su Mu merely offered her a cool, indifferent glance before speaking in a calm, detached tone: “You handle this mess yourself. I’m going elsewhere later.”
These words were naturally directed at Su Chen. Remaining in a company riddled with petty workplace politics was far too exhausting.
Rather than dealing with this, she would prefer to have her father assign a proper, qualified mentor to guide her before she attempted an internship again.
“You come inside with me.”
Exuding an aura of pure ice, Su Chen grabbed Su Mu by the wrist and dragged her straight back to his office.
He left the head secretary and Wen Xin standing there in stunned silence, staring at each other before turning their gazes toward Yin Wenbo.
“Assistant Yin… who is she…?” the head secretary asked with extreme caution.
Yin Wenbo merely let out a mocking sneer.
“Her? She’s the President’s younger sister—here to do an internship.”
With that, Yin Wenbo turned on his heel and walked away without looking back, a cold smirk curling at the corner of his lips.
The President had only just taken over this company, and its managerial hierarchy was convoluted and corrupt. He had originally intended to clean house gradually, but now it seemed he would be forced to cut through the messy knot with a swift blade.
Certain people had grown far too arrogant, relying on their senior status to do whatever they pleased. Compared to the ruthlessness the President had demonstrated over in Country M, his methods here had been remarkably gentle.
As Yin Wenbo’s figure faded from the cafeteria, the head secretary and Wen Xin were left behind, their faces turning deathly pale in an instant.
Wen Xin collapsed onto the floor in a heap. Did I really just call Su Mu a prostitute earlier…?
At the thought of this, the color drained from her face even further, her heart swallowed whole by intense regret.
Compared to Wen Xin, the head secretary was equally plagued by remorse—why had she allowed herself to be swayed by Wen Xin’s provocation into targeting a newcomer?
Given her seniority, as long as she performed her duties diligently, no number of incoming interns would have posed a threat to her. But now…
“Hmph! You caused this mess yourself, so go fix it yourself!”
The head secretary let out a cold snort and turned away without paying Wen Xin another glance.
Targeting an intern almost dragged me down into the mud with her!
SLAM!
The office door was thrown shut with a loud bang. Su Mu shook her hand, but Su Chen’s grip on her wrist remained tight.
“I’ll speak to Dad myself later about interning at another company. You can handle things here however you see fit.”
The chill surrounding Su Chen grew even more severe. He kept his lips pressed into a tight line, remaining silent.
Su Mu shook her hand once more. Why is this second male lead being so utterly annoying?
“Let go of me, I have things to do.”
“Su Mu!”
Su Chen suddenly seized Su Mu by the shoulders. His deep, dark eyes locked onto the depths of hers, brimming with restrained, complex emotions.
Su Mu froze for a moment, completely unsure of what this second male lead was playing at now.
“When I learned that you were planning to break off your engagement with Shen Yeyi, do you have any idea how overjoyed my heart was?”
Su Chen’s gaze turned deeply tender, filled to the brim with long-cherished yearning.
Su Mu: “…”
“Little cutie, did this male lead pick up the wrong script?”
Asking in her mind, Su Mu’s expression was visibly bewildered.
Why is he suddenly confessing to me?
“Be good, don’t leave. Whatever you want to learn, I’ll teach you.”
Su Chen gently stroked Su Mu’s soft hair before suddenly pulling her entire body into his embrace, a surge of deep satisfaction filling his heart.
w-444: “Ahhhhh! The male lead just confessed to you! His favorability rating soared straight to 85%! Mumu, keep going~!”
The system points from this male lead were practically being handed to them on a silver platter—he had taken the bait all on his own!
“I still have matters to attend to. Let’s talk next time.”
Su Mu shoved Su Chen away with force and turned around, pushing the door open and stepping out directly.
Watching her figure practically flee in panic, Su Chen suddenly let out a low, muffled chuckle.
This little girl…
w-444: “Mumu, Mumu! The male lead took the bait all on his own, why didn’t you push further?”
w-444 was practically bursting with anxiety.
Su Mu merely swept a cool, indifferent glance across her mind.
“Push further with what? Stage a whole wrestling match between the sheets right inside his office?”
w-444: “…I mean, it’s not like you couldn’t… haha…”
In the end, w-444 didn’t dare say the rest out loud.
Yet it continued to nag silently in its mind: rolling around under the covers was so harmonious! It had personally witnessed so many passionate scenes with its previous host—even if things got automatically censored at the critical moments, seeing handsome men and gorgeous women together was such a treat for the eyes.
Having wasted so much time, by the time Su Mu arrived at the entertainment agency, Bai Xiu was just preparing to sign his contract. Yu Hui was present as well. Su Mu quickly scanned through the document, feeling a bit more relieved upon confirming there were no obvious traps, and had Bai Xiu sign the contract.
“Honestly, Mumu, don’t you trust me by now? Speaking of which, why were you in such a rush to shove him in here?”
“It’s nothing. Just make sure you train him well—he has good potential.”
In front of Yu Hui and the talent manager, Su Mu showered him with praise without holding back.
Hearing w-444 prompt that the favorability rating had reached max capacity, Su Mu raised an eyebrow.
Who would have thought it’s this easy to grind favorability points?
Now that his favorability was maxed out, she wouldn’t need to interact with him anymore and could peacefully live her life as a lazy parasite.
“Bai Xiu, work hard and learn as much as you can here. Try to bring home a Best Actor trophy as soon as possible.”
Su Mu offered Bai Xiu a completely expressionless word of encouragement, leaving Yu Hui staring in tongue-tied disbelief.
Why does it look to me like she’s just desperate to dump a heavy burden off her hands?
