17 – Saving the Village Demon
“It hurts like hell.” Qin Yue frowned, watching blood drip from her finger, feeling sorry for herself for half a second.
Using tomato juice as a substitute for blood—only she could come up with such a ridiculous idea.
After finishing the bloodletting, she carried the bowl of tomato juice mixed with blood and walked toward Sang Mohan.
The scent of blood stimulated the man’s senses. He stopped his thrashing, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Um, here’s the blood. Drink up.”
The man stared at the crimson liquid in her hand like a desperately thirsty beast, snatched the bowl from her, and gulped it down in one go.
But after a few sips, he sensed something was off. Why did this blood taste sour, with a hint of sweetness? It was completely different from the blood he’d drunk before, which had always been foul and stinky.
He glared coldly at Qin Yue, as if demanding why she’d given him fake blood.
Qin Yue inwardly groaned. He must have noticed—would he snap her neck?
She forced a strained smile. “Heh, well… I just thought you might get tired of drinking blood all the time and wanted to change things up… Don’t worry, this tomato juice is mixed with my blood—it’s a mixed beverage. Doesn’t it taste refreshingly unique…”
Sang Mohan’s eyes turned icy. Tomato juice? This girl had some nerve, daring to deceive him with tomato juice. Fortunately, it contained her blood, or he would have definitely broken her neck.
Still, he liked this flavor—it gave him a novel thrill. Though the blood concentration was low, her blood alone was enough to calm him. Human blood was indeed far more effective than beast blood.
He tilted his head back and finished the remaining liquid, then flashed her a terrifying smile before collapsing onto the bed and drifting into a heavy sleep.
Qin Yue let out a sigh of relief. She’d finally managed to subdue this demon.
The man’s sleeping face was peaceful, like a child’s.
But Qin Yue didn’t dare sleep, afraid he might wake in the middle of the night and kill her. She stubbornly stayed seated on a stool all night. By dawn, she couldn’t hold out any longer and dozed off with her head on her knees.
The moment she closed her eyes, she tumbled off the stool, her head hitting the floor and jolting her awake from the pain.
When she opened her eyes, she realized that in the brief time she’d napped, the person on the bed had vanished.
Qin Yue was startled and about to search for him when suddenly a man entered her line of sight.
His face had sharp, defined features, and he was tall and slender, wearing a pristine white shirt with the sleeves rolled up twice, revealing a steel watch.
The shirt was tucked into black trousers that accentuated his long, straight legs—so handsome it was almost blinding.
He really was wealthy, actually owning a watch… In this impoverished world, even ordinary people saving for years couldn’t afford one.
Especially when many were still starving—owning a watch was the height of luxury.
She had only worn a silk wedding dress once on her wedding day; since then, it had been coarse cloth garments. Compared to this god-like man, she felt utterly shabby—ahem—
Qin Yue swallowed hard. She’d seen handsome men before, but never one as breathtaking as this. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him divinely beautiful. He was a completely different person from yesterday. If not for the familiar cold severity in his eyes, she would hardly believe they were the same man.
