Ji Chen pointed upstairs.

Wen Qi glanced up, and her eyes instantly turned golden.

In her vision, the buildings became hazy and indistinct, while the zombie crystal cores glowed with heat and light.Full novel: Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Little Vixen Wants Hugs and Kisses — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

One, two, three…

There were twelve zombies upstairs.

Wen Qi marked their positions on the ground.

Jian An watched from the side.

So capable… Then why, in the previous life…

Following Wen Qi’s markings, everyone split up to eliminate the zombies.

Jian An walked toward the main entrance. “Baby, do you have a big lock?”

Wen Qi ran over and took one out of her space for him.

He installed the lock, then infused the door with a current of electricity.

If anything moved, whether human or zombie, it would be shocked—and with his ability, he would immediately sense it.

Upstairs, Liao Liao had already pushed three tables together in a lounge area, and in another section, he grouped tables in pairs. All the chairs were stacked together.

Nights were never safe—better for everyone to stay in one room.

“Xiao Wen Qi, take out the mattresses and set up your little bed,” Liao Liao called from the stairwell.

The little rabbit glanced at him, then turned to look at Jian An.

Her meaning was obvious:

Human, you follow the rabbit!

Jian An chuckled, pinching her cheek. “So clingy, huh, baby?”

Don’t slander the rabbit. It’s because my demonic power won’t dissipate if I stay by your side!

The man grabbed her hand, interlocking their fingers tightly.

Now that I’ve caught you, I’m not letting go, baby.

Her hand felt a bit tight in his grip, but seeing the happiness in his eyes—

Fine… do whatever you want.

After going upstairs, Wen Qi looked at the tables that had clearly been arranged into four separate beds.

A question mark practically popped over her head.

What does this mean?

Xiangxiang, you’re not sleeping with me?

Look me in the eyes right now.

Look my eyes, Xiangxiang!

The confusion in Wen Qi’s eyes was too obvious.

Jian An touched his nose, feeling unusually guilty.

If we keep sleeping together… my self-control really won’t hold.

“Be good. You take the big bed, I’ll sleep on the one next to you,” Jian An said, pulling her toward the larger setup.

Hmph, Xiangxiang has changed.

No hugging, and the bed is so small—she couldn’t even climb over at night!

Wen Qi pulled her hand free and walked to the smaller bed he mentioned, testing it carefully.

Alright… five meters apart. Acceptable.

It’s just… no Xiangxiang’s scent at night.

Jian An followed and took her hand again.

“It’s still very close, baby.”

“Hmph.”

Though she complained, she still took out suitable mattresses, blankets, and pillows for everyone.

Most were simple—black, white, and gray.

But her own bed was as cute as possible.

The blanket was covered in carrot patterns, and the pillow had a lazy little rabbit on it.

Remembering how she used to toss and turn in her sleep, Jian An had her take out wooden railings and soft padding.

He carefully secured a barrier around the bed, lining it with soft cushioning, even testing it to make sure it wouldn’t hurt if she bumped into it.

He also tied the legs of the tables together with rope to make sure they wouldn’t separate.

“Whoa, what a transformation!” Liao Liao and Ji Chen returned after checking the library’s doors and windows and collecting supplies. They were stunned by the changes.

“Xiao Wen Qi, us rough guys don’t need mattresses. Sleeping bags are fine,” Liao Liao said. In his eyes, Wen Qi deserved comfort, but they could make do.

“No way. You’re protecting me—you need proper rest too,” Wen Qi said, lying on the bed she had prepared for Jian An.

Setting all this up had exhausted the rabbit.

“Xiao Wen Qi…” Liao Liao was so touched he almost cried.

He knew she was doing this for them. With her strength alone, she could beat him senseless if she wanted.

Wen Qi waved her hand casually. “Go make your beds.”

No need to thank the rabbit too much.

“Roger that, miss!” Liao Liao and Ji Chen went to set up their beds.

The little spirit lay on the bed, watching the three men busy themselves.

Then a thought struck her—

Why not just take ready-made beds from the supermarket?

…Well, humans must have their reasons.

The rabbit didn’t understand, but respected it.

After cleaning up—

“Baby, tonight you can have the instant noodles you’ve been craving,” Jian An said with a smile, looking at the girl lying on his bed.

Nice. My bed will smell like her tonight.

The moment she heard that, the little rabbit sprang up.

“That’s great!”

She immediately took out the instant noodles she had been longing for—

a giant pot enough for ten people.

She even brought out hotpot ingredients and all kinds of ready-to-eat foods.

As Liao Liao opened the packages, he gave her a thumbs-up. “Xiao Wen Qi, you’re really this.”

The little rabbit blinked.

What does this mean?

She adorably gave a thumbs-up back.

“He means you’re amazing,” Jian An said, rubbing her head.

In their previous life, she hadn’t understood many expressions either. He had even thought she was teasing him at one point.

Wen Qi raised her eyebrows proudly at Liao Liao. “Of course.”

The great rabbit spirit approved of your good judgment.

Jian An served a bowl of noodles and set it aside.

Wen Qi immediately reached for it—

but he caught her wrist and placed her hand on his lap. “Wait. Let it cool.”

Looking at the drooling little rabbit, Jian An’s gaze deepened.

No wonder… in the past, at the beginning, she only gave me snacks. Not a single proper meal… the only vegetable was carrots. But later… why did there start to be hot meals…?

“Xiangxiang, they’ve already started eating,” Wen Qi said pitifully.

Snapped out of his thoughts, Jian An chuckled, tested the temperature, and handed her the bowl. “Eat slowly. Don’t rush.”

The food was so good that the only sounds were slurping noodles and chopsticks picking up dishes.

Everyone immersed themselves in the meal.

“For tonight—Liao Liao takes the first half of the watch, I’ll take the second. Ji Chen drove all day, so he rests,” Jian An assigned.

Then he met Wen Qi’s expectant gaze.

“Baby, come patrol with me,” he said, extending his hand.

Wen Qi bounced over and grabbed it. “Okay!”

The patrol wasn’t just an excuse—Jian An needed to coat every door and window with a layer of electricity. Nights were dangerous; in the apocalypse, there was no absolute safety.

Wen Qi held a flashlight in one hand, hopping along happily, her other hand holding Jian An’s.

She was so happy.

It felt like those times watching fireflies with Xiangxiang.

Every time Jian An stopped at a door or window, Wen Qi shone the flashlight around, inspecting carefully.

Finally, everything was done.

Jian An looked at Wen Qi, whose smile hadn’t faded since they started patrolling.

He pulled her into his arms. “Baby’s really happy.”

“Mm-hmm! Being with Xiangxiang makes me happy,” she said brightly, her voice clear and sincere, her eyes full of honesty.

As long as she was with him, she was happy.

Jian An froze, struck by her sincerity.

It had only been a teasing remark—but her answer hit straight at his heart.

“Baby…” He pulled her tightly into his embrace, burying his face deep into her neck, his arms locking firmly around her waist.

“What did I ever do to deserve this…?”
