Jian An had never been a lucky person.

His father cheated, his mother took her own life. From a young age, he had learned to handle everything on his own, to swallow every hardship whole.

If he got sick, he would just take some medicine and tough it out. If he felt wronged, he would sleep it off. No one ever paid attention to him.Full novel: Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Little Vixen Wants Hugs and Kisses — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

When he started school, teachers would spare him a bit of attention because of his excellent grades—but only for a moment.

Even in the army, he bore injuries from missions alone. If something happened to him, he wouldn’t even know who to write his last letter to.

Many times, Jian An felt that he had come into this world only to fulfill his mother’s wish.

No good fortune would ever fall his way.

But in his previous life, there had been a girl he couldn’t drive away no matter what. And in this life, there was a girl who gave him her sincerity and favoritism without reservation.

It made him uneasy.

What had he done to deserve someone like her?

He felt grateful—but also afraid, terrified that fate would take away the delicate girl in his arms.

Wen Qi sensed the shift in his emotions and quietly hugged him back.

“Xiangxiang, I’ll always stay by your side,” she said.

Don’t be afraid of anything. This great rabbit spirit will clear all obstacles for you.

Jian An tightened his arms around her. “You’ll really stay with me… always?”

“I will!” Her answer was firm and certain.

I came here for you. Nothing will ever separate us.

By the time they returned to the room, Jian An had regained his composure.

He locked the door, and everyone went to sleep.

Wen Qi wrapped herself tightly in the blanket like a cocoon, then turned to stare at Xiangxiang, who was sleeping not far away.

Hmph. Not even sleeping with the rabbit? Fine—no carrots for you for a whole day!

She glared at him fiercely.

In the darkness, Jian An sensed her gaze and opened his eyes, meeting her “vicious” expression.

“Go to sleep,” he mouthed silently.

Rabbits had excellent night vision, and she could clearly read his lips.

Hmph.

I’m only letting you off because of Liao Liao and the others. Just wait till tomorrow.

Wen Qi turned away, no longer looking at him.

But Jian An kept his gaze on the round back of her head.

Good night, my baby.

It was a peaceful night.

“Wake up, sleepyhead… wake up,” Jian An leaned over the railing, gently rubbing her cheek.

He had expected this—she had changed sleeping positions countless times during the night, rolling from one end of the bed to the other. The blanket she had tightly wrapped around herself before sleep was now kicked into complete disarray.

Wen Qi yawned slowly, her eyes unfocused, still half-asleep.

Jian An gently stroked her head. “Time to get up and eat.”

His voice naturally softened when speaking to her in the morning.

She slowly sat up and stretched.

“Ah… I slept well yesterday…”

Jian An took her hand and helped her off the bed, handing her the toiletries he had prepared in advance. “We’ll have buns and milk this morning, okay?”

She nodded, and only then did he step out to prepare breakfast.

After washing up, Wen Qi searched through her Ruyi Space for clothes.

She hadn’t dressed up properly these past few days.

Even a little rabbit liked to look pretty.

The door opened.

Jian An turned—and his eyes lit up.

Her long hair fell to her waist, with a pink rabbit hair clip perched on top. She wore a white windbreaker—clearly matching his—paired with light-colored wide-leg pants that accentuated her slender legs, and white sneakers.

Sweet yet cool.

“Nom!” Wen Qi bit into a large bun.

Standing behind her, Jian An stared at her hair, deep in thought.

With no better option, he tried to style her hair based on how he remembered teachers at the orphanage tying children’s hair.

His long fingers moved gently through her hair. “If it hurts, tell me, okay?”

“Okay~”

After a series of clumsy, almost disastrous attempts—

he ended up with a crooked, messy low ponytail.

Jian An stepped in front of her, feeling guilty.

…Luckily, her face carried it.

Liao Liao watched her transformation—from a sweet, loose-haired girl to… well…

cough cough—better not comment.

After eating and packing up, they prepared to gather supplies.

The villages they had passed earlier weren’t ignored—they simply had nothing worth collecting.

Broken furniture patched together, worn-out pots used for years, completely moldy food…

“By the way, what’s wrong with the ginseng?” Liao Liao asked, holding up the droopy little ginseng.

“What’s wrong?” Wen Qi poked its roots.

“I want to plant myself in soil…” it said weakly.

Following you people, I haven’t had a single bit of proper nourishment…

“That’s easy.”

Wen Qi directly tossed it beside the black soil in her Ruyi Space.

“Whoa—such rich energy!”

The ginseng instantly perked up. No more weakness, no more fatigue. It quickly dug a hole for itself with its roots and jumped in, burying itself.

“Ah, little rabbit, you’re too stingy! With a place like this, you should’ve put me here earlier!”

Once Wen Qi confirmed it had planted itself properly, she ignored it.

The group set off again.

They planned to find a gas station to refuel and stop at any shops along the way to gather supplies.

When Jian An spotted a seed store, he stopped the car.

“Baby, is there any fruit you want to eat?”

“I want to eat everything!”

The rabbit wasn’t picky—and she hadn’t even tried many fruits before, mostly just wild ones.

At first, she used to get tricked by sour fruits. Now she could tell which ones were sweet.

The rabbit was proud.

“Alright, let’s go get some seeds.”

He didn’t mention that his space contained not only a hundred meters of open ground, but also a hundred acres of farmland.

Liao Liao and the others assumed he wanted seeds for research and didn’t question it.

Wen Qi had already gotten out of the car, waiting for him to hold her hand.

The seed store was relatively intact—perhaps because seeds weren’t in high demand.

There were not only fruit seeds, but also vegetable seeds—and most surprisingly, medicinal herb seeds.

Everyone started grabbing everything.

At first, Jian An would ask, “Baby, do you want lychees?”

But soon he stopped asking—

because her answer was always: “Yes!”

If the little rabbit wanted it, the little rabbit got it.

As for whether a hundred acres could hold all these seeds—

if she got tired of something, they could just pull it out and plant something else.

Anything moldy was left behind. Anything well-packaged was taken.

Jian An didn’t bother leaving anything for others.

First, seeds required time to grow.

Second, most people preferred ready-made supplies. Even if he didn’t take them all, they would likely go to waste.

Fortunately, there wasn’t a single zombie in the store. Ji Chen and Liao Liao checked the place and packed whatever food and useful items they found.

In the apocalypse, not even a grain of rice was wasted.

“Let’s give these seeds to the researchers at the base. Maybe someday we’ll actually get to eat fruit again,” Liao Liao said as he grabbed more, already imagining the future.
