Following behind Feng Moxi, Luo Yunxi said coldly,
“If you don’t want to talk, then don’t. Quit sniffling already, it’s annoying.”
Only now did she truly realize that in the apocalypse, crying was the most useless thing a person could do.
In fact, it only made people dislike you.
The three girls seemed to understand the situation. They hurriedly stopped sobbing.
One of them sniffled a few times before quietly walking beside Luo Yunxi.
“There are monsters everywhere outside. Xiaolian and the others… they’re all dead. We barely managed to escape and run back here, but then…”
Unable to continue, she covered her face and began crying again.
It was exactly as Feng Moxi had expected.
A handful of unarmed girls who knew nothing except how to cry were never going to make it very far.
Besides, the only road leading out of town was filled with danger.
Without fighting their way through, there was no escape.
The commotion caused by everyone’s arrival had long since alerted the people upstairs.
Soon, seven or eight men rushed down from the second floor.
Each of them carried a weapon and stood menacingly at the top of the staircase.
“What are you staring at? Never seen a handsome guy before? Keep looking, and I’ll gouge your eyes out.”
Chaoyang suddenly leaped onto a chair.
His fearless expression remained unchanged as he looked arrogantly at the men above him.
Although he was standing lower than they were, somehow he still managed to look down on them.
Feng Moxi nearly lost control of her expression.
What a lunatic.
Sure enough, those few casual words instantly provoked the men upstairs.
A pot-bellied man stepped out from the middle of the group.
His shirt hung open, exposing an enormous belly.
Although unhappy to see so many newcomers, he still managed to speak somewhat politely.
“Where are you people from? Since you’ve entered our territory, you’ll follow our rules. No one is allowed above the second floor.”
“Pah!”
Chaoyang spat on the floor.
“Shut up, ugly. Looking at you ruins my appetite. If you’ve got any sense, get lost.”
Even He Ping began wondering whether this guy had lost his mind.
Meanwhile, Chaoyang’s companions simply watched the scene unfold without saying a single word.
A thought flashed through Feng Moxi’s mind.
A fight is about to break out.
“You’re asking to die!”
The fat man exploded with rage.
He clenched one hand, and a fireball the size of an egg instantly appeared in his palm.
Bang!
A gunshot echoed through the hall.
A tiny bloody hole appeared squarely in the center of the fat man’s forehead.
Blood trickled slowly down his face.
Before he even had the chance to launch the fireball…
One of the black-clad bodyguards standing behind Chaoyang calmly drew a pistol and shot him dead.
The fat man’s eyes widened in disbelief.
His body crashed onto the staircase.
He died without ever understanding what had happened.
Everything occurred in the blink of an eye.
No one had time to react.
Everyone present was completely stunned.
He Ping quietly tugged at Wan Yong and the others.
Without making a sound, they slowly retreated several steps, putting more distance between themselves and Chaoyang’s group.
“Oh, come on, Xiao Xuezi.”
Chaoyang sighed lazily.
“You’re way too hot-tempered. Killing people at the drop of a hat isn’t a good habit.”
Although his words sounded like criticism, he continued watching the scene with an amused expression.
It was as if his subordinate hadn’t just shot a person…
But merely stepped on a stray dog.
The black-clad bodyguard calmly holstered his pistol.
His face remained completely expressionless.
Only now was Feng Moxi absolutely certain.
This was a group of complete psychopaths.
She would be wise to stay as far away from them as possible in the future.
The remaining men on the staircase stared at the dead body in horror.
Then they turned and bolted upstairs.
Moments later, heavy footsteps echoed through the building.
Soon, they heard a series of dull thuds from outside.
Silence followed.
Feng Moxi stretched her neck toward the doorway to see what had happened.
“No need to look.”
Chaoyang’s infuriating voice drifted over again.
“They all jumped out the windows.”
This guy really enjoyed stirring up trouble and watching the chaos afterward.
After everything that had happened tonight, Feng Moxi no longer had the energy to deal with a group of lunatics.
She quickly headed upstairs.
What she and Luo Yunxi needed most now was a quiet, enclosed room where they could cultivate.
In the apocalypse…
Strength meant everything.
Especially after encountering people who actually had the power to back up their arrogance.
Sima Yue frowned slightly.
Without sparing anyone another glance, he stepped around the crowd, walked over the ugly corpse lying on the stairs, and followed Chaoyang upstairs.
He completely ignored both the people…
And the dead body beneath his feet.
Wan Yong and the others had seen enough.
Rather than continue dealing with those madmen, they decided to remain downstairs in the hall and keep their distance.
Seeing that everything had finally calmed down, the three surviving girls began crying again.
This time they looked hopefully toward the only middle-aged woman in He Ping’s group.
The poor woman was so frightened that she hurriedly backed away.
He Ping frowned.
“Stop crying. It’s irritating.”
The three girls no longer dared to cry loudly.
They simply covered their faces and sobbed quietly.
Even Wan Yong had reached the end of his patience.
After everything they had gone through, everyone was exhausted and in a terrible mood.
Who wanted to listen to endless crying?
He roared impatiently,
“Get out of the way! I’ve been fighting all night, and you’re still bawling nonstop!”
The three girls trembled.
They looked helplessly at the bewildered middle-aged woman.
Realizing no one intended to help them, they silently retreated into a corner once again.
After reaching the second floor, Feng Moxi headed straight for the room nearest the window.
The moment she pushed open the door…
Soft sobbing drifted out.
Curled up in one corner of the room sat a completely naked young woman.
Her head hung low.
Long, tangled hair covered her face.
Her entire body trembled uncontrollably.
The room was filled with an unbearable stench.
Hearing someone enter, she timidly lifted her eyes.
She was the last girl who had failed to escape from the basement.
Feng Moxi hadn’t expected…
Things had ended like this.
Luo Yunxi immediately covered her own eyes and hurriedly pulled Feng Moxi back out of the room.
Turning around, Feng Moxi found Chaoyang leaning against the wall, squinting at them with that familiar look of amusement.
This guy…
Her hand immediately began itching again.
He was just begging to be punched.
When that fat man had appeared earlier, Chaoyang had instantly recognized he wasn’t a good person.
Without hesitation, he had simply ordered him killed.
Simple.
Brutal.
But incredibly irritating.
Seeing Feng Moxi looking at him, Chaoyang pinched his nose dramatically.
“Little sister, you’ve practically turned into a mud statue. Can’t you smell yourself?”
Feng Moxi was speechless.
When the two of them had shared a vehicle during the escape, he certainly hadn’t complained.
By now, though, she was already used to his irritating way of speaking.
Her expression remained calm.
“Still better than looking like some overly polished pretty boy.”
With that, she turned and walked into the second bedroom.
Luo Yunxi hurried inside after her.
Chaoyang looked toward Sima Yue.
“Brother, was she calling me a pretty boy?”
Sima Yue maintained the same expressionless face as always.
Without even glancing at him, he walked into another bedroom.
Chaoyang spread his hands helplessly.
“I hate stiff, zombie-like expressions the most.”
After entering the bedroom, Feng Moxi and Luo Yunxi finally looked at each other properly.
Both of them were filthy from head to toe.
Their hair had become tangled bird’s nests.
If they so much as shook their heads, dust would probably pour off them in clouds.
