Perhaps the signal was not very good. After the call connected, a crackling sound came from the other end, and Bai Yang waited for a while without hearing Bai Heyu’s voice.

“Brother?”

Bai Yang could only hear rustling sounds from the other end, along with a faint voice asking, “Who’s calling?”Full novel: Reborn Before the Apocalypse: I Was Shocked to Discover I Know My Child’s Father — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The person holding the phone did not seem to be Bai Heyu. He quietly replied, “It’s the boss’s younger sister. Her name is Qingqing.”

“Give the phone to Old Bai, quickly!”

Bai Yang recognized the voice this time. It was Fu Le, and his tone sounded somewhat anxious.

Bai Yang’s heart sank. She seemed to have figured out what had happened to her brother.

After waiting for quite a while, Bai Heyu’s voice finally came through the phone.

“Qingqing.”

Far away on the other side of Huaguo, Bai Heyu had finally regained some clarity after answering Bai Yang’s call. He tried to speak to her in as calm a tone as possible.

“How is everything at home?”

“Are you talking about the zombies that suddenly appeared this morning, just like the ones in the movies?”

Bai Yang could hear the barely perceptible tremor and pain beneath Bai Heyu’s calm voice. She guessed that there was a very high chance he had been scratched by a zombie rather than awakened an ability.

In her previous life, Bai Yang had seen people awaken abilities after being scratched by zombies. The process was extremely painful. Out of a hundred people, only one would ultimately manage to survive it.

“This morning, Mom said the hallway was very noisy and asked Dad to go out and take a look. The moment Dad opened the door, he nearly got grabbed by the zombie outside.”

Bai Yang heard Bai Heyu’s breathing stop for a moment.

“Dad wasn’t scratched, was he?”

“No. Dad really lived up to his time in the military. His reactions were incredibly fast, and he dodged before the zombie could even reach through the door.”

There was deep pride in Bai Yang’s voice, which elicited a soft laugh from Bai Heyu. Hearing him laugh, Bai Yang felt slightly relieved. The process of mutating after being scratched by a zombie was extremely painful, and what she needed to do was keep Bai Heyu distracted.

She did not know that Bai Heyu did not need her to deliberately attract his attention. As long as he heard that it was her, his attention would instinctively follow her.

“That zombie was completely rotten from head to toe, even with its body covered in decay. When I closed the door, I could smell the stench coming from it. I even saw maggots writhing on its face.”

“Ugh!”

Bai Yang had originally intended to disgust her brother so that even if he reached his limit and wanted to give up, hearing her words would make him think twice. She had not expected that merely recalling the scene would disgust her so much that she would be the one vomiting first.

“Ugh!”

Bai Yang held onto the edge of the bed and dry-heaved several times. She had wanted to tell Bai Heyu just how disgusting the zombies were, but because of the overwhelming urge to vomit, she decided to keep her mouth shut.

Otherwise, before she managed to disgust her brother, she might end up vomiting herself to death!

Still in the room, Bai Suisui had witnessed the entire scene of Bai Yang trying to disgust their older brother only to disgust herself into vomiting. Her expression was difficult to describe for a moment. Her sister had never been this disgusting before!

On the other end of the phone, Bai Heyu felt the energy rampaging through his body and wreaking havoc begin to weaken considerably, and his thoughts became clearer.

Hearing that Qingqing had originally been trying to disgust him but had ended up making herself sick instead, he suddenly understood what she was trying to do.

His Qingqing was using her own way to help him endure the pain after being scratched by a zombie.

“Qingqing, I’m fine now, so don’t think about those disgusting things anymore.”

Hearing that Bai Heyu’s voice had become much steadier, Bai Yang finally relaxed. It seemed that the most difficult stage had passed.

“Qingqing, did you know that I was injured?”

Bai Yang did not answer. Instead, she began talking about what was happening outside the window.

“Many people who tried to escape from the residential compound were bitten by zombies. I saw that some of them turned into zombies almost immediately after being bitten, while others struggled for quite a while before becoming infected.”

After she finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end.

“Qingqing, remember this, do not go outside, all right? I’ll be able to get home very soon.”

“Okay!”

Bai Yang hung up the phone and wondered if, in her previous life, her brother had been scratched by a zombie and failed to survive, which was why she had never been able to find him.

Looking at the chaotic scene outside the window, Bai Yang’s thoughts began to race. Although her brother had said he would hurry home, they could not simply sit around and wait.

Her family lived on the seventh floor, and they could take the elevator directly to the underground parking garage. If she wanted to leave, Bai Yang was confident that she could get out safely, but she could not guarantee the safety of her family.

Bai Yang pondered the situation. Apart from herself, the thing her family lacked most was suitable weapons. Where could she get more weapons?

Her father had served in the military, so a gun would be the best option. At the thought of guns, Bai Yang suddenly remembered that in her previous life, when she returned, she had happened to encounter a group of people who had taken advantage of the chaos caused by the apocalypse to steal a batch of underground weapons.

Bai Yang remembered that the hiding place of those weapons was not very far from her home. It would take about half an hour to drive there.

Thinking about this, Bai Yang became somewhat excited. In her previous life, the base had also assigned her firearms whenever she went on missions, but those weapons ultimately did not belong to her. This time, she was determined to obtain that batch of weapons and have an arsenal of her own.

“Suisui, Sis is going out for a while. If you’re still scared, go to Mom and Dad’s room. Remember to stay away from the windows!”

Bai Yang seriously reminded Bai Suisui to be careful. Although their apartment was on a fairly high floor, it was not particularly high, so there was always a chance that something could break in through the windows.

“Sis, it’s so dangerous outside. Why are you going out?”

Seeing that Bai Yang was actually opening the door to leave, Bai Suisui became anxious and worried. There were so many zombies outside. Would her sister really be able to return safely after going out?

“Shh! Don’t speak so loudly. Be careful that Mom and Dad don’t hear you! There’s a batch of weapons in Q City not far from our home. I’m going to get some, so we’ll have weapons at home.”

“!!!”

Bai Suisui stared at Bai Yang as though she were joking. In the end, she gritted her teeth and decided to go with Bai Yang. If Mom found out that her sister had gone outside alone at a time like this, she would be scared to death!

In the end, Bai Suisui still could not accompany Bai Yang because Bai Yang stopped her. She told her that if Mom and Dad did not see her, Bai Suisui should keep them occupied for a while.

Helpless, Bai Suisui could only watch as her sister opened the security door. The sound of the door opening attracted the zombies outside. Bai Yang did not want to expose her spatial ability yet, so she casually grabbed a baseball bat from behind the door and swung it straight at a zombie’s head.

The zombie’s head burst open with a sickening splatter. After witnessing her older sister’s prowess firsthand, Bai Suisui suddenly felt much less worried. After all, no matter how frightening zombies were, could they really be more terrifying than Bai Yang taking them out with a single blow to the head?

She knew that Bai Yang had secretly practiced boxing for six years without letting their parents know!

Holding the baseball bat, Bai Yang moved with agile precision, swinging it at the zombies again and again. Wherever she went, each zombie was struck squarely in the head.

Bai Yang entered the elevator. Fortunately, there were only two zombies inside. After dealing with them, she pressed the button for the first basement level, and the elevator doors closed with a sound.

Bai Yang was relieved that zombies did not know how to use elevators, and she did not encounter anyone else trying to escape along the way. Perhaps, in other people’s eyes, the moment the zombies first appeared, they had already fled in panic without knowing where to go.

Bai Yang arrived at the underground parking garage. The moment she stepped out of the elevator, she encountered four or five zombies gathered together. Bai Yang guessed that these people had tried to drive away, only to be caught off guard by the zombies in the underground parking garage.

Suppressing her disgust, Bai Yang dealt with the zombies in front of her, found her small car, and immediately drove away from the parking garage.

What she did not know was that just after she had left home, Bai Dad walked out of his room and was now angrily interrogating Bai Suisui.

And Bai Suisui, who was being interrogated by Bai Dad, was suffering terribly. She could only hope that her sister would return as soon as possible.
